Terrelle Pryor Projected Supplemental Draft

beerlover

Hall of Fame
this is not official (as of yet) however having following Terrelle past couple years & believe will come to fruition in time for the NFL Supplemental Draft (unless lockout prohibits it). Heavily recruited out of High School came down to Ohio State or Oregon (thank Jesus he never became a Duck). Dominant athlete who belongs with likes of Vince Young & Cam Newton. Someone is going to get a steep discount, no doubt because of his errors (getting caught) so I'll ask the question: what is his value to a team who needs a QB, who wants him & where will he wind up in the pecking order when all is said & done compared to Vince & Cam?

Here is is breakdown, courtesy of Ourlads Scouting Service, who sent me this player breakdown. If you like this kind of thing you probably should subscribe?
It's difficult in these lockout times to add value related material of note, I hope just hope somebody appreciates the efforting.

Pryor, Terrelle Ohio State 6053 236 4.45
Three-year starter with record of 31-4. An ascending right-handed pro quarterback prospect with unique and versatile athletic ability. Possesses the
talent and skill set to contribute early in his career and provide impact play. Big, strong, and athletic enough to play a slot receiver position while he
is learning all nuances of NFL quarterback play. Caught 3 passes for 2 touchdowns in Buckeye career. In 2010 he demonstrated a command of the
offense. When passing the ball he had good arm strength and velocity to throw vertical and all NFL three level routes. Good footwork and balance in
the pocket. Keeps his feet alive. Good deep ball accuracy at 50 yards plus. He can hit a moving target in stride downfield with few adjustments. Ball
is wobbly at times. Not a perfect spiral. Holds ball up chest to shoulder high. He has developed touch on checkdowns, swing passes, and screens.
Quick set up to the throwing point when taking the snap from under center. Approximately a 60/40 ratio of spread shotgun to pro style snap under
center. Has a deliberate delivery with a quick wrist snap to get the ball out to his receivers. The nose of the ball will drop at times on short routes
causing the football to dive and fall short of the target. Improved his ability in 2010 to pre-read, sight adjust, and locate secondary receivers.
Noticeable improvement in his field vision and awareness in 2010. Appeared to read defenses better out of the shotgun than when taking snaps and
dropping back to throwing point. Better anticipation in 2010 but rarely had to throw into tight windows. His receivers were generally wide open.
Poised in the pocket. Was more confident with his protection in 2010. Keeps his eyes down the field. Has courage, doesn’t panic, and is determined
to stay in the pocket. Stands tall and steps up when he feels pressure. Spreads the ball around to wide receivers, backs, and tight ends. Throws the
complete route tree vertically and horizontally. Can make plays on the move, particularly running and passing to his left. Can buy time and extend a
play. Creates plays with his feet. Natural athleticism. Can avoid and escape the rush with suddenness. Demonstrates the ability to reset his body with
balance to make a quick and accurate throw. Dangerous when he pulls the ball down and runs to daylight. A smooth and explosive athlete with long
strides. Has the innate speed and strength to run away from defenders. Uses a straight arm to ward off tacklers. Possesses functional speed and
quickness. The Buckeyes ran a read option series out of their spread formation. Pryor’s decision making and consistency improved in 2010. Strong
enough to shake off arm tackles or pass rushers in the pocket. Not easy to tackle. Finishes his runs. Elusive in the open field. Big, strong, and durable.
Clutch ability to perform in crucial situations. Moves the team when needed, especially with the game on the line. He does have a bad habit of
carrying the ball in the one hand or out away from his body, setting up a fumble or strip opportunity. He will also throw back across his body and the
defense at times. Terrelle Pryor is an ultra competitive, playmaking, passionate, and athletic quarterback who played in a structured offensive scheme
at Ohio State. He concluded his three-year college career in 2010 with six of his top eight performances. Productive with 6177 career passing yards
(fifth at OSU), completed 16 consecutive passes in a game (second all time in the Big-10). Only six times in OSU history has a quarterback rushed
for 100 yards and passed for 200 yards or more in the same game. Pryor did it five times. He is the Ohio State all-time quarterback rushing leader
with 2164 yards (fourth on the Big-10 all-time list). Tenth in the country in 2010 in passing efficiency with 159.88 rating. Pryor had arthroscopic
surgery on his left knee in February 2010 after partially tearing his posterior cruciate ligament. He also had surgery on 1/7/11 to stabilize a ligament
in his right foot injured in the Sugar Bowl. He looked strong in the Buckeyes’ spring game in 2011 completing 13 of 18 passes for 191 yards, two
scores, and no interceptions. Pryor will need to learn and continue to improve on all the nuances and fundamentals of the pro passing game –
decision making (judgment and decisiveness), accuracy, consistency, ability to anticipate windows in coverage (throw to spots), ability to handle
adjustments, game management, react to adversity, reliability, and leadership. Most of his leadership qualities appear as a playmaker on the field.
Pryor made the comment during his junior year that he didn’t work as hard as he could have his first two years and started to believe all the hype
before the light went on in 2010. Projected to apply for Supplemental Draft this summer. MVP in 2011 Sugar Bowl, MVP in 2010 Rose Bowl. Beat
Michigan three straight years along with three Big-10 championships. USA Today High School Player of the Year in 2007, led his team to state
championships in both football and basketball at Jeannette (PA) High School. Born 6/20/89. The Cleveland Plain Dealer called the high school
recruitment of Terrelle Pryor the most publicized recruiting saga in college football history. Has red flags that need to be addressed. A boom or bust
prospect. A first/second round developmental talent.

Not accurate enough to be an elite pro QB.

Seems to have alot of VY sense of entitlement in him.

Rd 4-6, probably 5th

Cam went 1st, Vince 3rd & you guys believe no team will touch him before the 4th? There is going to be at least one QB hungry team (Miami Dolphins) willing to part out a 3rd to develop a Pro-Talent like Pryor.

Now that I think about it, you're probably right.

But that team will be setting its self up for alot of heartache for the next 5-10 yrs.

At best Pryor will be a QB that can get you to the playoffs but choke when it counts the most. At worst he will be a petulant self absorbed man/child who cant stay out of jail and potentially destroys a franchise.

I wouldn't bet on him. But some team will. I wish them luck. Sometimes you get what you ask for. LOL

Beerlover,

Not trying to contradict a respected scouting report, but the times that I saw him, he had a real tough time staying in the pocket.

Beerlover,

he will never be confused for a pocket QB, it will be a team that uses a spread or play action scheme maximizing his athleticism.

Both Ohio State (Rose Bowl 2010) with Pryor & Auburn (Tostitos BCS National Championship Game 2011) with Newton beat the same team, Oregon in large part because of difficulty in defending the leadership of a large, athletic QB.

I like to use this comparison one because a lot of people are familiar with game from a national perspective, widely viewed & direct comparable w/similar match-ups. just check out these stats from both games on the biggest stage & tell me one is so much greater than the other:
Cam Newton threw for 265 on 20-34 for 2 TD's & one INT. also rushed 22 times for a 2.9 avg. & 64 yards.
Terrelle Pryor threw for 266 on 23-37 for 2 TD's & one INT. also rushed 20 times for a 3.6 avg. & 72 yards.

It doesn't get much closer than that, its my theory anyway supported by facts. why the wide separation in draft grade is open for discussion.

Cam went 1st, Vince 3rd & you guys believe no team will touch him before the 4th? There is going to be at least one QB hungry team (Miami Dolphins) willing to part out a 3rd to develop a Pro-Talent like Pryor.

You are right. But, Vince and Cam both won the National Championship and were ballyhooed as a result. In both cases they were considered mid level firsts until the national championship. Then their stock rose through the draft evaluation process.

Pryor reminds me of a Maurice Clarett (same school interestingly enough). Lot of talant but tons of red flag personal issues. Remember who drafted Clarett becuase he thought he was smarter than anyone else? Remember who may need a QB going forward.

My prediction: Pryor goes in the 3rd to the Redskins.

Not suprising

It's on you Terrell

Good luck, prove yourself on the field, your selfishness put you in this position.

The NFL oughtta ban him for a year. If there is a shred of decency in . . . .....right. Nevermind.

Cheating is cheating. If he doesn't feel one single reprimand from NCAA to the NFL to anywhere.....well then cheating ISN'T cheating anymore.

He is basically being banned from OSU for life. As in, the school will no longer recognize him as a former player, will never invite him back for any gameday events, and will not allow him to attend another OSU game for life. That's a pretty substantial loss, not to mention he won't finish his degree and graduate.

I'm sure that sucks. For about 2 seconds.

Then he turns around and gets another boatload of money from someone else.

Exactly my soap box - who will live to fight another day? Tressel and Prior. Who will have to suffer for a few years? OSU, OSU fans, alumns, current coaches, players who aren't quitting, etc., etc., etc...

I don't think so in his case. He had a lot more problems than both VY and Newton. He never had the same success in college that either one of them had either.

I could be wrong though, because I thought there was no way in hell that Newton would go as the #1 pick in the draft.

Is there anyone else even in the Supplemental Draft yet, or is Terrelle Pryor going to be the first ever number one pick who is also Mr. Irrelevant

Take it from a Buckeye - you are right, Pryor had a LOT left to prove on the field.

And you are also right, some times teams do dumb things. LOL, Maybe Tenn will take him so I can heckly him.

I have to be honest I have NO IDEA how it works, because it is normally UDFA, lol.

Wow, United Dairy Famers of America....

The guy who I think knows the most about guys after watching film is Greg Cossell. He does all the prep work for NFL matchup and most NFL people think he critiques better than anyone out there. Following him on Twitter is like having a scout give you tidbits daily. Here is what he has been saying

Pryor's advantage in supp. draft is no expectations. Can be a #3 QB + perhaps develop over time. Still a major question but ideal situation.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
Major difference between Pryor + Newton is Newton can throw. Big arm, drives the ball. Newton can make NFL throws, Pryor at this point can't

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: For those who equate athleticism with QB he's a draftable player. I evaluated him w/late round/free agent grade. No NFL skills.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: Many issues that need major work. 2 are average arm strength + erratic accuracy. Little velocity. Can't drive ball. Poor passer.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: Those who equate body athleticism to QB skills + tools will see positives. Those who see NFL QB as a craft will not see much.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
Finished 4 game study of Pryor: Miami, Wisconsin, Iowa and Arkansas in bowl game. A developmental project. No NFL QB traits at this point.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: Overall long way to go before any chance of being NFL QB. In 2 games I evaluated showed no attributes that transition to NFL.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: Not naturally accurate. Scattershot. Over-reactive to perceived pressure. No precision to game. A random, unstructured player.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: Poor footwork as he sets + plants to deliver. Little sense at this point of how drop of QB syncs up with receivers routes.

gregcosell Greg Cosell
More Pryor: Limited pocket feel + presence, impatient + uncomfortable in pocket. One read + then break down. No ability to move + reset

I've been to OSU. No offense to you good sir....I just can't seriously imagine a scenario where people would want to "go back" there. For any reason. In fact, if Ohio fell into itself and dissappeared the only person that would notice is Lebron James.

IMHO that is the only possible deterrent and it will NEVER happen.

Agreed. If he had killed a dog or shot himself it would be a different story. This is just cheating and not even cheating in the league. Seriously, if he is not punished (and no, I don't consider no-class-reunion-invites as a punishment) then cheating is not cheating anymore.

Nice. People who think athleticism matters at QB will overrate him. Say for instance...Vince Young at #3 or Cam Newton at #1?

List of People Who Think Athleticism Matters at QB:
Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Matt Schaub
(This List Continues, Sarcastically)

Be careful of generalizations especially when concerning scouting. NFL is full of athletic specimens all positions not just QB. Question always comes down to does the prospect rely solely on those skills & natural abilities or is he capable of expanding his skill set, even more so for a QB, to slow the game down to take advantages of mismatches & scheme breakdowns.

It would be foolish to dismiss Pyror as just a physical specimen for position, harder of course because he just is so blessed, or to rate Cam Newton throwing motion, progression reads, or running ability miles apart. It may be more important for them to be system specific & put into the right scheme to pull out & take advantage of strengths.

That said some savy team has a position for him that can very well make him successful in the NFL. I think he would be an excellent fit for developmental back-up in Tampa behind Freeman & Johnson. Since they don't have a huge need right away, they don't need to make a huge investment so would only have to offer a 4th or 5th.

Enter Rosenhaus. This may change the dynamics for Terrelle to find the best long term fit & focus more on the short which may hurt & even prematurely finish off any career Pryor could develop if he was in a low pressure, work your way up through the system opportunity. Just subjective opinion on my part but if his value is driven too high early along with immediate expectations, the chances of success drop. IMO.

Take it from a Buckeye - you are right, Pryor had a LOT left to prove on the field.

I was sort of surprised that he didn't progress as much by his Junior season though. I watched a lot of him coming into college and I wanted Texas to get him so bad, since he was like another carbon copy of VY. He was perfect for the Greg Davis offense and they could have used him the same. He actually looked a little better than VY his Freshman season, and then never progressed that much after that. He was one of those typical athlete QB's that could make things easy for himself in college, but I don't see him doing jack in the pros as a QB prospect, nor do I see him being able to transition to WR either. He doesn't seem tough enough or to have the heart.

Did you hear Rosenhaous when he was trying to hype him up?? Ah man, it was funny how badly Rosenhous exaggerated his potential.

And why do we go back? For Saturdays in the fall, of course.

Hey, I got to Texas as quick as I could!

If I were a GM I would use a 3rd or 4th on him and put him at WR.

As a QB? Pass. Wouldn't even use a 7th. I see no way that his skill set translates to NFL QB. None.

The only way that he is similar to VY or Newton is that he can run fast. That's it.

people get blinded by his combination of size and physical ability. he's no different from antwaan randal el as an NFL QB prospect.

Wow, United Dairy Famers of America....

The Supplemental draft does not work in the same way as the regular draft. It does not happen every year, only when there is a player who declares for it.

Here is the way it works. Each team has their picks in hand for the 2012 draft. If a team wants a particular player they send a "bid" in for that player with their future draft pick. For example, if Buffalo wanted to take him, they could "bid" with their 3rd round pick for 2012. The team that uses the highest draft round(in that 1 is highest and 7 is lowest) is awarded the player and loses that selection in the upcoming draft. If two teams bid with the same round, the team who picked higher in the 2011 pick is awarded the player. So, for example, if the Texans and the Packers each used a 4th round pick on Player A, the Texans would get the player.

That's how it works.

I'd buy that. We could use another 3 or 4 tight ends, I think he has the ability to be a Gates/Davis type athletic TE....

Someone oughtta ask him does he want to be a QB or does he want to play.

Why should the NFL reprimand Pryor for anything this is retarded. If college football wasn't all ****ed up to begin with you may, might, okay not really, have a point about the NFL being the only way to keep players on the straight and narrow in college. But CFB actively encourages teams to do whatever they can to win a title and then deny everything after they find out that their team has a payroll that rivals pro teams, so I don't see why the NFL would punish any player for things that they did in college.

I think he could be similar to Plaxico Burress, but not quite as good. They are about the same size and Pryor is definitely athletic enough to play WR.

He wouldn't be a great blocker but good enough to get the job done. His route running would be an issue but that can be worked on. All you really want from him is some fade routes in the red zone. He could do that.

pryor filmed a camp gruden that will air on ESPN.

TAMPA - Former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor is the latest NFL hopeful to work out at USF with ESPN analyst Jon Gruden. Pryor threw passes to Bulls players on Monday afternoon with ESPN cameras filming.

Gruden brought several top quarterbacks to Tampa before the draft, including No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton of Auburn of the Carolina Panthers, and USF's practice fields were used for the on-field instruction part of Gruden's QB Camp, which gave a closer look at a strong draft class of quarterbacks.

ESPN says the one-hour Pryor episode will air at 9 p.m. June 30 on ESPN, with a rebroadcast immediately after at 10 on ESPN2. The show will have a different format from the other Gruden QB shows, with Rece Davis hosting and other segments to update the NCAA investigation at Ohio State and other storylines surrounding Pryor.

gruden: you know some of the verbiage in the NFL, i don't how it was at ohio state, but is long. you got the shifts, the plays, the protections, the snap count, the alert, the check with me's. i mean, "flip right double x jet 36 counter at 7x quarter"

pryor: .....

gruden: call something at ohio state that's a little verbal. what would be a little verbal? any recollection on that?

pryor:..........ummmmmmm.......

gruden: give me something. what does a play at ohio state sound?

pryor: ah man....you put me on the spot.....our method at ohio state is signed jerseys and helmets = cash.

gruden: *nods head*

pryor: it's so simple as far as you look to the sideline and you see just a 2011 nissan 350z on the board.....and that's a play.

gruden: that's awesome.

Not only would I not waste a draft pick on him, I wouldn't even sign him as a free agent if he wasn't drafted. His arm, leadership and study habits are all meh at best, and then toss in his checkered past?

So I guess that means he's a Titan soon. I sure pick kick ass teams to root for.

This is how I feel too. This guy isnt worth the paper his contract will be written on.
