Officials from the player's union yesterday had a conference call with a group of agents who are sending clients to the combine. The question agents were asked by union officials: should players boycott it?

The resounding answer from each agent, according to a person on the call: hell no. Are you crazy?

So no combine boycott. We pretty much knew that. Though it is interesting that even as recent as yesterday the union was still seeking opinions from its membership.

But a boycott of the draft remains a strong possibility assuming there is indeed a lockout, according to an agent familiar with the union's thinking.

The belief is that a combine boycott would've hurt the players but a boycott of the draft would not. It could, the union is thinking, send a strong message to the NFL of union solidarity.

"I don't know if a draft boycott will happen," said one agent, "but I'm preparing my clients for it just in case."

Another agent estimated the chances of a draft boycott at 40 percent.

I don't understand how you can "boycott" the draft. It's a league event that essentially doesn't involve any prospects in a tangible way. I guess the prospects invited to attend could boycott and not go... but they're still going to be selected... the draft will still go on.

A boycott of the Combine is a whole different animal. Players are actually participating in events there and will be evaluated. A boycott means no workouts/drills and the combine wouldn't happen.

It's gonna to be hard to convince young guys (most had never laid their hands on much money) not to sign on the dotted line to get that first bonus check?!? :bubbles:
 
How many of these players forfeited a year, maybe 2 years of college football eligibility to enter the Draft, and now some players' union reps asked the
college guys agents about boycotting the Draft ? Get real man !

As soon as they sign on the dotted line, they are members of the players union and won't get paid if there is a lockout.

A draft boycott would be for show and perception only. Having the first round of the draft occur without any of the big picks being there would a pretty big message that the owners and fans alike would hear loud and clear.

Can they form a new union?
They can always fire their agents once they get a contract right?

I don't know, I'm just throwing things out that's all. :kitten:
 
I can see it now, millionare NFL players asking desperately poor college draft picks to boycott the Combine and Draft so that the millionare NFL player can get even richer and make a point to the owners. Yea right.
