Draft position question

YTF, I agree with you on Cushing. Whenever I doodle a Texans 3-4, I always put Cushing in the middle. He just seems a better fit there, and I have a hard time explaining it. Its a gut feeling.

I rarely ever post anywhere but the draft section. This is what I do. I don't follow as closely as I used to, but I still spend a lot of time with this stuff. I also don't get many Texans games, so I just stick to the draft and college type of posts.

And yeah, we definitely do keep to ourselves in this part of the board.

So we get steven Paeae or Von Miller? Hmmmmm, tough choice, but I bet they pick a CB anyways...

Outside of Peterson, none of the CBs impress me. The little I've seen of Prince, Harris and Jenkins.... I never once thought "Top 10 pick". Yes we have the 11th, I didn't hear that either.

We GOTTA fill our holes on Defense with veteran FAs and then go BPA in the draft. We HAVE to get playmakers. I think Miller and Paea and others will be rated higher than any of the DBs except for Peterson (who will be Top 5).

best way to fill holes is to trade back like a mother....... :toropalm:

Hahaha nice face palm. I agree but the time has passed for trading back to fill holes through the draft. Watching our defense this year... the problem with the secondary was a lot due to age. Fill holes with Veterans (free agents) and we'll get more immediate impact from them.

The rookies we play next season from the draft have to be playmakers. They need to see the field because they're "special". The 2011 season is do or die for Kubiak (again, lol) and he better not put his job on the line for 'decent' rookies with upside.

The problem is, to trade back there needs to be someone of value at #11 for someone to pay to trade up. It's not a bad spot considering the rookie contracts, but who will fall to #11 that will make another team want to trade up? Maybe the Seahawks want to grab Jake Locker or Ryan Mallet before the Vikings or Dolphins do? It's likely at least 2 QBs will be off the board before our pick, thanks to Carolina and Arizona. Just depends on who all is taken by that point.

the 11th spot is rich with talent if all the underclassman come out, everything hinges on them really.

let me just make one example off top of my head :smiliepalm: using New England for example. Imagine for a moment I'm Bill Belichick & your Rick Smith.......

I propose to you trading New England's first, projected 32nd (590 points) first pick of 2nd #33 via Carolina (580 points) plus 4th rd. projected #128th (44 points) all for the Texans first pick #11 overall (1250) would you make that trade & if so who would you select? :koolaid: ps. Patriots move up to get Watt

Depends on who's there at #11, but assuming all three of the good DT's are gone, I would be in favor of trading back for 3 picks. However, I think the Pats would offer the 32nd, their 2nd and the 4th, meaning we get less 'points' in the deal. But we get our 1st round pick value spread out, which is something we need for increased depth. Either way, with the late 1st pick, I would go for the LSU DT Nevis. He seems like a clear upgrade over Cody, or possibly a NT if we move to a 3-4. The extra 2nd and 4th could go any way, but still have a huge impact on this team's depth. Probably go WR with the late pick and DB with the other.
