Oklahoma St. Putting It To The Horns

Texan4Ever

All Pro
Following the tradition that has started, I thought I would go ahead and make this a thread :)

As of 8:46 PM CT, Oklahoma State is up 26-3. Brandon Weeden is 17 of 25 for 249 yards passing with a TD and INT. Garrett Gilbert is 9 of 16 for 60 yards passing and an INT.

It's not Gilbert's fault. Its the system. The O-Line. Fire the coach! It's the defense's fault.

I think the Texans should draft him and pay him a whole lotta money.

Gilbert seems to hold onto the ball way to long at times instead of throwing it away. Also, there offensive line has some major holes that need to be fixed (which could be why their run game isn't as great as the ones they had back in the days). Oh and also, FIRE GREG DAVIS!

Greg Davis = :mariopalm:

Why are they starting 3 Freshman O Lineman?

Don't quote me on this but I think they've had injuries to the offensive line which is why Texas is forced to put in Freshman.

Could have something to do with their offensive struggles tonight.

Coming into this game, they were one of only 3 teams to out-gain their opponent in every game this year.

The Texas Longhorns are close to four deep at every OL position. They have probably had, on average, the best recruiting classes of any school in the country over the last five years. If they are not number one in that category, they are almost certainly in the top five. They are not short of offensive lineman. If they are playing three freshman, that is either because they have mailed it in for the rest of this year and they are playing for the future, or because they have squandered their talent.

The Texas OL has had problems for years under Greg Davis. Those were papered over for a short while when Vince Young was at the helm. But even during the Colt McCoy years, the Longhorns struggled mightily with their running game. And I do not care what anyone says, it was not because of a lack of talent at either the offensive line or running back positions. The Longhorns have been stacked for years at every position.

The Longhorns are blowing up this year and I for one am very sad to see it. The Longhorns have overachieved in recruiting and underachieved on the field, at least this year. Of course that goes to the coaches. That being said, the "fire the coach" crowd is out of control as usual (just as they routinely are with the Houston Texans). The Texas Longhorns have performed very well over the last 10 years and I expect them to do so again over the next 10 years.

However, I do wish they would get rid of their offensive coordinator Greg Davis. He is not as good as the Texans Longhorns have a right to expect in that role. He is not earning his exorbitant salary by any means.

I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you, to see Showtime100 posting in this thread gloating over the misfortune of the Texas Longhorns.

:sarcasm:

Yeah, I'm the Horn hater...lol. I think you have me confused with somebody else. The Horns have had a miserable season and I have said next to nothing despite numerous opportunities. Give me a break.

This may be Mack Brown's last season at Texas unless he is willing to let Greg Davis go.

And he may be gone anyway...

They should fire Brown and get rid of Davis. Texas is a place almost anybody would want to go to and build a legacy. heck, if Larry Coker didn't go to UTSA, he would be a good addition at Texas.

How about Mike Leach eh? :pirate:

Just a side note...

Why does Matt Millen have a job in anything football related?

I have no earthly idea why, why is he even allowed to talk football? :smiliepalm:

The hell? Coker is a TERRIBLE coach.

Really? What I remember about him is them winning the national championship and being able to recruit top athletes. I could be wrong because I was a kid back then and watched only a few Miami (FL) games.

BTW, Ok St. wins this 33-16...

I really don't understand why people still complain about Greg Davis and say that he should be fired at this point. GD should have been fired like 7 years ago, but that will never happen if Mack is there. Mack told the University that he would quit if GD was fired and he meant it. GD is going nowhere as long as Mack is there, and that's just that. And as far as the offense goes, Mack is just as much to blame for that as GD is, because GD runs an offense similar to what Mack tells him he wants his offense to be. Mack has said that himself. This humiliation of the Longhorns falls on Mack Brown more than anything.

Butch Davis recruited those beasts they had. Coker inherited a star studded squad. Coker wasn't too bad at recruiting, but he was awful on the field.

Texas has to beat FAU and A&M just to scrape by and become bowl eligible and even then they'll probably be in the Ticketcity or Pinstripe bowl.

Mack isn't going anywhere nor should he. He's won 10 games for the past several years and a national championship and just this year he had a bad season. He'd need 2 more bad seasons to get ousted.

All i can say is I'm very disappointed in this season...I didn't even watch the game tonight..I watched Oregon instead.First game in 10 years that i haven't seen a Longhorns game...sucks...:smiliepalm:

I was pulling for tu in order to help TAMU. It's a weird year like that. I had the same dirty feeling when I was pulling for the dallas cowboys to beat the AFC South opponents in order to help the Texans. My hatred for tu and dallas of course grew because they didn't help me and I rooted for them.
:mariopalm:

As a Horns fan, I did not expect the them to be a Natl championship contender. I figured they would lose 3 games(Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Oklahoma state) and be able to have enough D and just enough offense to be able to win the rest. Clearly, I was wrong. The team has practically come apart this year.

I wonder if part of the reason the team has come apart is because of Malcolm Brown. The offensive coaches had to practically change their game plan to lure him to Texas and then commit to an I-formation to show him they would be serious. The problem is that Texas does not have the o line for an I formation and thus that running scheme is not effective. Then when the receivers are dropping the ball and the QB is basically a freshman and making bad decisions, the offense stalls.

Why do people hate the University of Texas soo much?

Im a Texas fan but more of a college football fan, i pull for the aggies just as much as i pull for texas. But why is it that everytime texas has a shortcoming or gets beat or does something someone doesnt like, its like this entire section of this website turns into a bash Texas forum.

I honestly think that aggie fans have this napolean complex about them where, they feel that they must show flaws in texas and make sure everyone knows about just so they dont feel so bad about themselves, or its like where a guy buys a sports car to overcompensate for something he doesnt have?

Idk, every Aggie fan ive run into, and some are friends and family, they would go 1-11 if it meant texas didnt win a game all season.

Two reasons.
1. Jealousy. Texas has won the second most amount of football games in college football history. Unless you are a fan of Michigan, you cannot say your team has won more games. Texas also recruits vwery well.

2. Poor fans. There are some band Texas fans that are loud and obnoxious and make the good fans look bad. Every team has them, but when a team is successful as Texas you get a lot of very obnoxious fans. Especially newer fans who only have seen the success of the Brown years, they think that a bad season is one when the Horns dont play for the NC. These "fans" whine and complain after a 10 or 11 win season and do not appreciate how tough it is to actually win that many games consistently.

I actually attended this game with a good friend of mine who has season tickets. I wore an A&M shirt, but didn't have any problems with people around campus or at the game, although I wasn't being an obnoxious ass like some of the OSU fans near us. The US people sitting around us were pretty cool. I was in fact rooting for the Longhorns, mostly for selfish reasons (OSU loss means A&M has a shot at winning the South) We had a good time and I was surprised to see the stadium about 90% full by the middle of the 1st quarter despite their poor record. After a loss to Baylor, I wouldn't blame many of the fans for not showing up, but the Alumni section was packed and the student section was about 75% full at its peak.

A few random observations:
1. UT's place kicker is awful. That guy couldn't get it past the 10 yard line on the fly, and was lucky to get it beyond the 20. I can't believe they could not do better than that.

2. The UT crowd was relatively useless during the game. Even in the 2nd quarter when it was still winnable they just could not get energized enough to make a difference in OSU's on-field calls. Probably due to the general performance of the team, but they could do a lot better.

3. If anyone even suggests taking a UT D-lineman in the next draft, they should be banned from the mock draft section. They actually looked worse than the Texan's D-line and that's pretty terrible. Their DT's were useless against the pass and the rush. It's like a team full of Okoye's.

4. That stadium was amazing for a college campus. Besides the retractable roof, it's just as nice as Reliant. I can't believe all the restaurant franchises they had like Subway, Wendy's and even a sushi shop. It seriously beats the hell out of any college stadium I have been to. The private box seats looked pretty sweet too.

5. WTF is with all the statues around campus? Anyone know why they have statues of Woodrow Wilson, MLK and a bunch of other people? All of which had nothing to do with UT as far as I can tell...

6. FIRE GREG DAVIS! Holy ****... I have never seen such an inept offensive gameplan in my life and I spent 4 years at Texas A&M. If Mack has to go just to get rid of Davis, I don't see how you guys could be opposed to that.

7. Live Oak Brewery is awesome. It's a local brewery located on 6th street. They do tours on the weekends and it was a lot of fun. Try the amber ale sometime, it's great :D

The existence of this thread is a complete validation of that.

Yeah, that U of H Cougar who started this whole "Putting it to the Horns" thing sure does show how much A&M sucks.

I got this one confused with the other one floating around that Pbat started. It's only like his fifth one, so the confusion should be understandable at this point considering how many I hate UT" threads have been floating around here lately. The fact that there are as many that there are that continue to pop up makes Gymrat's sentiments seem pretty accurate. No?

As far as I know, it was originally started by some guy named "Orange Pole" (ironic no?) who is a Cougar. Apparently he doesn't post here much, but he came back during the UCLA game and made a thread about "UCLA puttin it to the horns". I think he did one the next week, and random people have been doing the same since as a joke. I don't think the OP of this thread meant it as a slight to Longhorn fans, nor have the recent ones. I wouldn't be surprised if Orange Pole got banned for being an obnoxious jackass.

This is not new. It's been this way for years now.

True for the most part. Sam Acho is a stud though. I would take him on the Texans in a heartbeat. Disruptive and very intelligent DE who holds his own against the run.

I asked him who he "represented" as the author of those threads and he claimed Western Kentucky, of all schools. I happily took his word for it but another poster did point out he has Cougar blood in him too. I prefered to think of him as a Big Red backer or whatever the hell Western Kentucky's mascot is....lol.

whaaaaat? I'm pretty sure you're putting me as the figurehead to what others have posted or said; I'm 99% sure I've never said I hate UT-Austin. As hard as it might be to believe, I like a lot of things about your school. There are some things I dislike, but isn't that the same with everything?

I like to get other schools views on things that have happened that affect our respective universities, and since the only other website I post on is TexAgs, I have to come here to get civil* discourse with other schools fans so I can understand their take on things.

We discussed this in one of my classes and I believe its to represent certain ideals that those people represented that are a part of the university and or it was the choice of the sculptor who decided to add some from his own collection. However, I think the first answer is the correct one.

6th Street is for little kids. You have to go to 7th (whichever one has the more mature crowd, like the one in the Wharehouse District, and the one with Qua Lounge with the sharks underneath the dance floor)

I've got some really bad news for you...it isn't just Aggie fans.

For me, the biggest reason is Mack Brown. The man has literally "whined" his way up the rankings before. He's always asked for his team to be ranked better than their record would otherwise indicate. He's had some awesome squads put up really good seasons, but managed to lose "the big one" for years. Then, by God, Saint Vince came to inspire the fathful, raise people from the dead and to end taxation...

Guess what, Vince and Colt aren't there anymore.

Now, Mack is getting exposed for the coach he really is. One who has had historically great recruiting classes, but this time can't manage his talent. The Horns were "ranked" far longer this year than they had any right to be. It pains me that those facing the Horns early in the season will get the benefit of playing a "high ranked" opponent, when they were actually playing a second-tier team.

You are definitely a figure head and you consistently go out of your way to take shots at Texas by starting threads about them and constantly calling them TU or whatever other name you come up with on the fly. It's been pretty obvious quite a few times what your purpose was. I generally try to root for other Texas schools when they're not playing the Longhorns and that includes the Aggies, but when you consistently try to muddy the waters in here with this nonsense you're just asking for it and eventually the package gets delivered. If Aggie fans or other fans of other schools don't like Texas, then fine, but if you want to consistently go out of your way to bash them or make fun of them, then just don't act surprised when it comes back the other way.

Torbush!! I don't make up names on the fly!! I call the school the University of Texas at Austin, abbreviated to UT-Austin; is that not the name of the school? And I don't mean to stir up the pot as you think I do, I guess it's just interpreted that way because I have an A&M avatar and all aggy hate longwhorn, yesh! But in actuality, I'm trying to get a discussion going from the other point of view, because to be honest, A&M and UT-Austin are usually at two ends of a spectrum regarding issues.

I won't lie and say I won't rib in a sarcastic/joking manner, but I don't think I've ever said anything dirty/indecent about it. If so, please find and post for me or message and I'll eat crow very openly and enjoy it.

Unfortunately, there are people who think if you don't worship Texas as the end-all-be-all of greatness and you criticize the program in any way then you "hate" them and are "jealous".

I'm an A&M guy, have season tickets along with my Texans tickets, but I don't "hate" them. I have several friends and family who graduated from there and I like to talk smack, though I've had to keep pretty quiet the last couple of years. This year its just not fun as bad as the longhorns have been. But do I find it amusing how quickly they are imploding and the casual and t-shirt fans jumping off the bandwagon? Yes, of course. I also find it amusing when longhorn fans think there is no way Muschamp leaves because no one would dare leave Texas for another job.

Was Mack even that good of a coach at UNC? Anyways, Mack Brown = Jim Tressel = Urban Meyer. Jim Tressel feilds good teams but looses the big one and Urban Meyer always campaigns for his team to get into the big game (but at least he wins it).

I think he may be confusing you with Orange Lot Pole 8...

It's for sure that I'm no 'Sip fan. That said it's also well known that my sister, brother-in-law (baseball) and many, many friends are 'Sips. That also said, while I like to see them struggling, are you kidding me??? This program has won 10+ games for how long??? One really bad season in like the last 10 years????

I'm just saying, some people should back off from dissin' them or even Mack Brown, too much.

That kind of **** has a way of coming back to haunt those that do...

I've had several good conversations with pbat, Stemp, and others about the Horns and Ags. Truthfully my conversations here have been a helluva lot more civil than my typical arguments on Horns boards. Honestly I think a ton of the hate UT fans get is due to a certain segment of their fan base - the ones who ceaselessly mock other fans and arrogantly claim to run the college sports world. I've always been a realistic fan - some might even call me cynical. I think it's the Houston fan in me.

In every group of people, there will always be asshats and jackasses. Some groups tend to have a lot more than others, like the Red Raiders for instance seem to have an enormous amount of them. While I try not to let my prejudices get in the way of friends and co-workers, I will never bring myself to wish anything good for that school's sports programs due to nearly all of the Tech people I have ever encountered fitting into the categories above.

The most obnoxious fans I have ever seen at college football games have always been Tech students and they hold the record of 6 people I have personally witnessed being thrown out of a game. More than the 3 Aggies, 3 Longhorns and 1 Baylor Bear fan that I recall being ejected. Granted most of the games I have attended featured the Aggies, I did see two Red Raiders thrown out of a Baylor/A&M game back in 2005 who were basically taunting Aggie fans for the first quarter and a half. It's pretty ridiculous how many annoying Tech fans there are in comparison to all the other Big 12 schools.
