From what I've seen, the Colts do NOT want the Texans to truly BELIEVE
they are on "equal" footing. If the Texans do win against the Colts, they
will have EARNED it. After the Texans beat the Colts in 2006, the
look on Manning's face told a lot. They went on the win the Superbowl
after not having lost another game.

Last season, when the Texans took a 24-0 lead on the Colts, Manning
had the same look on his face, and they came back to stomp the Texans
34-27. This team's maturity level definitely will be tested in Game 1. The
Texans have the talent to play with the Colts, but have yet to prove
the maturity of a contender is there.

THAT is what I want to see.

If you understood that I said "if", then you'd understand why your question is invalid. I didn't say that the Colts WERE overlooking us. I didn't even say that they MAY overlook us, I said IF they overlook us.

An anonymous Colt source said that the Texans were placing too much emphasis on our season opener. Let's replay that in case you missed it:

We think we're a much better team this year. We want to make the playoffs for the first time in our history. We're 1-15 against the Colts and last season, we were 1-5 against divisional opponents and we just missed the playoffs.

This is a very important game for us. We're very hungry. And if the Colts don't take the game seriously and if the Colts have that laissez faire attitude toward the season, then maybe this is their year to go down because they're not hungry enough.

Now, I ask you the same question, what is there to suggest that the Colts aren't overlooking us? Just because you've gotten used to them always winning?

OK - let me re-phrase and not ask it as a question but simply offer this statement. There is absolutely nothing to suggest the Colts will overlook the Texans. They have obviously played in many games in the Manning era against teams of varying skill levels and won the vast majority of those games. It does not matter if it is a big game or not and I don't believe a team has that success by overlooking any opponent. Their leadership will not allow them to overlook anyone, particularly a division opponent on opening day in a hostile environment. The Colts will, to a man, know they have to play at their best to win.

And I am totally fine with that. I really wouldn't expect anything less from them. (Although honestly, I hope you guys fall apart. :) )

I just don't think that it's bad that we're looking at the first game of the season as an important game for our season which is what the Colt in the quote seemed to be indicating.

This isn't Chad and Terrell coming in opening day wondering how many closeups they'll get or if their Sharpies have plenty of ink..this is Peyton Manning and he KNOWS what the Texans are capable of.

I absolutely agree that they won't overlook the Texans; that they respect the Texans and they know they'll have to play their best to win.

It is an important game for both teams. I think everyone recognizes that - even the Colt player quoted by Peter King. Ultimately what the Colt player was suggesting is that there will be football to played on Sept 19th too.

I started thinking, what does it mean if we win because the game is so hyped, what does it mean if we lose? Over thinking it is dangerous in itself. The game has so much hype because it means that much. The season starts week 1. To get to week 2 we have to get through the colts. So I don't care what happens in week 2 till we get to week 2.

Exactly

Similar approach/concept Brian Billick used in the Raven's championship season... One week at a time.

The article makes a mockery of hyping this game, which I would get if the Colts game was week 2 or 3, but for the season opener, I think most would agree it's trivial for the Colts to think much of Houston making a fuss about week 1.

I don't know if we ever got to 24-0. I think we sputtered on our third scoring attemtp, and went up 17-0. They came back and scored a TD I think, we scored again, just before the half, 20-7 at the half I think.

Final score 35-27 Colts.

But other than that, your post is spot on.

Just Confirmed with Play by Play

Yeah. He was on a roll, I wasn't going to spoil that with the actual score.

By us, I'm sure.

Opening games aren't important???
We win against the jets last year and we're in the playoffs no questions asked

This.
It's gonna suck if we are sitting there crossing fingers that another team looses at the end of the season again-thinking if only...

That being said I have faith that all we'll be doing at the end of the last regular season game is gearing up for our first Playoff game.

SUPERBOWL!!

I'm just going to say this. It's time to win and I can't imagine the Texans don't know that. Frankly I don't care how much or how little "hype" the game carries with it. I just require that the Texans win it. Win it by 3 points or win it by 21 points. I don't care. I need a bunch of "W" against the Colts and it's time to start making it happen.

This has to end. They own us lock, stock, and barrell and if we don't change it starting with this game I fear they always will. Enough is enough.

Last year, the National Media was talking up the Texans as
a shoo-in to defeat the Jets on opening day. "Playoffs or Bust"
was the slogan. Rookie head coach. Rookie quarterback.

When the clock struck 0:00 in the 4th quarter, Reliant Stadium
was booing its home team off the field. Best Buy sold so many
televisions the following week, it was damn-near a record.

During the first 12 games, EVERY team is fighting for its playoff life.
The Texans seem to take about 12 games to hit stride.

Start of 2007 Season: 5-7 (3-1 finish)
Start of 2008 Season: 5-7 (3-1 finish)
Start of 2009 Season: 5-7 (4-0 finish)

Once they improve their record over "The First Twelve"
I'll be a believer they've "taken the next step." The
Texans can NOT afford to sleepwalk for weeks-on-end
before they "get" it.

Who do we face over the 1st 12?
1. Colts
2. Redskins (Haynesworth)
3. Cowboys
4. Raiders
5. Giants
6. Chiefs
7. Colts
8. Chargers
9. Jags
10. Jets
11. Titans
12. Eagles

Barely a creampuff in this. EVERY team on this list will be BRINGIN' it, because nothing
will have been settled. They won't be resting starters, or switching their key players
in-and-out to give us a chance. The Texans have to WIN these games to make
post season.

Pollard responds, well sorta.

Some players on the Colts think the Texans are getting a little too fired up about the teams' Week One meeting. Texans safety Bernard Pollard has heard that the Colts feel that way, and he's fired up about it.

"I couldn't care less what they have to say," Pollard said of the Colts. "We know and understand everybody is entitled to their opinion. Nobody determines what the Houston Texans do. We understand people are not going to give us respect. We are going to take it then. We know and understand that teams don't respect us. We know and understand that some fans don't respect us, some people feel like they're going to give us six wins. No, no, no, no. I promise you, we're going to show you a different team."

Pollard also suggested that the Texans have been showing too much deference to the Colts, and especially to the Colts' quarterback.

"Peyton Manning is a great quarterback, everybody understands what he brings to the game, we know and understand what he brings to the organization," Pollard said. "But they've dominated [us] for eight to 10 years. It's our turn to step up. We've been getting punched by them and we haven't punched back."

...

The Houston Texans get the team they are chasing as their first opponent, with Indianapolis visiting Reliant Stadium on Sept. 12.

But safety Bernard Pollard resents the idea that the Texans, who are 1-15 against the Colts all-time, have put too much of a premium on that game.
“Peyton Manning is a great quarterback, everybody understands what he brings to the game, we know and understand what he brings to the organization. But they’ve dominated [us] for eight to 10 years. It’s our turn to step up. We’ve been getting punched by them and we haven’t punched back. We’ve been on top but lost the fight. But this year is a new year…

“I couldn’t care less what they have to say. We know and understand everybody is entitled to their opinion. Nobody determines what the Houston Texans do. We understand people are not going to give us respect. We are going to take it then. We know and understand that teams don’t respect us. We know and understand that some fans don’t respect us, some people feel like they’re going to give us six wins. No, no, no, no. I promise you, we’re going to show you a different team.

“We’re excited. Who’s not going to be excited about football? We open up Week 1 at home, and the Colts just happen to be our opponent when everyone is talking about how tough our schedule is. We couldn’t care less. This is our year and we’re going to play football.”
That’s all reasonable. If you’re a Texans backer, or even if you’re not, it’s what you’d expect the Texans to say.

Pollard wouldn’t travel with me to a hypothetical time when the Texans might be dealing with a loss in that first game. But his tone suggested that if things somehow don’t pan out as he and his team expect, he’s not worried that the Texans will crumble with 15 more to play.

And that’s the lone concern here, that if they lose they don’t feel as if they just lost their Super Bowl.

Man, I love me some Bernard Pollard.

He doesn't seem like the next Will Demps.com, but you never know.

Pollard does appear to have more talent, and DEFINITELY the mouth.
I think I'll make a GIF of him roaming the backfield, jawjacking, after he smashed
Tim Hightower.

demos only seemed good because he was average and a solid hitter and that was a huge upgrade over brandon harrison :puke:

Demps didnt make any of the plays that pollard made last yr. plus pollard is still like only 25 so hes plenty of good yrs in him yet. im not worried bout any fall off with him

Pollard is that asset you acquire because somebody else screwed up and let him get away. He's the perfect catalyst for what we have here in Houston with the Texans. His arriving at the same time that we landed Cushing and while Mario & DeMeco are still young was fortunate indeed. Between the four of them you have at least one position with a clear leader in each level of our defense (and a two-headed monster at LB with Ryans & Cushing, there lies our true strength)

If Amobi Okoye ever finds the game the Texans thought he had and Kareem Jackson pans out we could very easily be looking at an elite defense for years to come.

But Pollard is special. How the Chiefs ever let that man go I will never understand. He stands out like a diamond in a goats ass.

Pollard has the type of personality that if he's not happy with the direction of the organization, he'll let everyone know it. There's a fine line between locker room leader and locker room cancer. Pollard needs to stay a happy believer.

So basically you are saying if Pollard wasn't happy with what Kubiak is doing, he would let us know?

Gary would tell us all at his next press conference how Pollard knocked the piss out of him after practice. He'd tell us how Pollard was a "tough kid" and brought "swagger" to the team. Then he'd excuse himself and ask for a towel.
