Brett Favre has announced he will return to the NFL for one more season if the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles return to the College World Series for a second year in a row.

The offseason drama begins again.

Deja vu, anyone?

Favre hangs NFL future on CWS

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Brett Favre says he still isn't sure what he's doing next season, but he may have given some indication after visiting with the Southern Miss baseball team.

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback told the Golden Eagles on Thursday morning that if they can make it back to the College World Series for the second straight year, he will return for one more season in the NFL.

Favre has left fans hanging since the Vikings lost to New Orleans in the NFC Championship game. He signed a two-year contract with the Vikings before last season. Coach Brad Childress hasn't talked with Favre recently except by text message.

Southern Miss players have a lot of work to do if they want to force Favre into action. They are 30-20 and need wins to earn a postseason invitation.

:spit:
Haha, gotta love Favre. While some people may get tired of his antics, I find them entertaining. The guy loves the game, no one can argue that. I'm hoping he does come back for another year, regardless of the outcome of this bet.

I am sick of his crap now. I have always thought it is his right to play for as long as he wants and even have supported him ever since his dispute with Green Bay. This is nuts. I only supported him because I had never thought he'd continue to drag this saga out for this long. How long is he going to play his little game? Now he is wagering his comeback on the stupid college worldseries. Is he for real? No, it is unreal. Either play or don't. I do not buy the fact that your career depends on NCAA baseball. It should not be like that because you are you and they are them. Oh, please give me a break. Each time you take a hit you are doing your body more harm so you better think twice. This just becomes more insane every year IMO.

People may hate him now, but I'm sure they'll miss him once he is finally gone ;).

Yes they will.....

I read an interesting article yesterday where the ownership of the Vikes has given the state a deadline to help them with a new stadium. 2011 they want something settled. Apparently this has been dragging for some years...

He has had a remarkable career but everyone's career ends at some point and time. He proved last season he can still play no doubt but I still think his time is drawing near due to his age. He is the age where his career may take a turn for the worst at any time. I just wish he'd tell all of us yes or no and move. Also, the media is blowing this story way out of proportion as they do 90 percent of the time. If he does come back I would probably watch him on T.V. though.

It's different now; Green Bay wanted to see what they had in Aaron Rodgers, but Minnesota needs him. He'll be back... the Vikings will give him all the time he wants until TC.

I agree with you completely. I honestly believe barring any serious injury, he can play for another 2 years at a fairly high level. The only thing that annoys me about Favre during the off-season is the media that whores itself with all that "Favre Watch" BS.

I agree. If he wins the big game in the next year two I think he'll walk for sure.

George Blanda, who played most of his career with the Houston Oilers. He was not only the oldest QB to ever play in the NFL, he was the oldest player to ever play in the NFL. Blanda played until he was 48 years old.

http://www.profootballhof.com/history/stats/40_and_over_club.aspx

Actually, he played longer with the Bears & Raiders longer than he did with the Oilers.

Chicago Bears (1949)
Baltimore Colts (1950)
Chicago Bears (1950-1958)
Houston Oilers (1960-1966)
Oakland Raiders (1967-1975)

You are correct. My error. Thanks for the correction.

Not trying to correct you so much as inform. I always felt he was an Oiler forever, and the Raiders just got him in the twilight of his career.

I remember watching him play qb for the Oilers and how pissed the town was that Bud let him get away.

Buck Fud!

If you pay attention to what he said and didn't say, you'll see he said he'd play again if they made it to the CWS - he never said he wouldn't if they didn't.

Favre's coming back whether Southern Miss makes it to Omaha or not - take it to the bank (Sorry Sage and Tarvaris).

IMO, maybe he should not have said anything like this at all it just sends a mixed message to me. Sorry about that. It just seems like another media ploy on his part but maybe I am wrong. This has to be driving Brad up a wall and I don't like that.

I'll never understand why people care so much about what Favre does if it doesn't effect their team. The reason why Favre does what he does is because the teams let him for one and don't put their foot down. GB finally did and he had to leave the team and go play for a team that he had no interest in playing for. He hated playing over there, so he did in fact have to do something he didn't want to do because of his little act and caught the consequences. Now he's with Minnesota and they're letting him do the same thing he did to GB for years. He completely turned around that offense though and gave them a real chance to make a SB and they barely fell short. He'll end up coming back for one more season and I'll be enjoying every minute of watching another season of Favre. He made some of the most amazing plays I've ever seen last year and hopefully he can still wow people. He doesn't effect my Texans in any way, so I've got no reason to care how long he drags things out. It's up to the team to put their foot down though.

Last year I picked up Farve off the waiver wire the moment I heard he was coming back to play. I dropped Jake Delhomme for him, and man that was a STEAL!

Used to be a big Brett Favre fan, but... the past few years have just been brutal. I'm sick of hearing about the guy and how he drags the off-season out.

Really at this point I'd be fine if he just said something like " Hey I want to play another year, but I don't want to do OTAs, TC or reall any off-season team activities."

At least it'd be through.

Well part of being an attention whore is finding new and creative ways to get your name out there. :bravo: Brett, you are king of the Whores.

Because it affects our TV, and it's really tired already.

This is the only thing that bothers me about Favre watch. Favre's one of my favorites a like watching the way he plays the game. I don't really have an issue with his off-season pondering. It's the blasted media that just chaps my hide. I mean, there came a time in the off-season last year were I missed a few NFLTA shows due to them stalking Favre. I treat NFLTA like my local news, so yeah, it's a big deal if I miss one. Ha

He just had the best season of his career. He'll be back. And then he'll have a slide this season.

Well it's got to happen at some point. The thing is that people have been saying that he was going to slide off like 4 seasons ago. Lol! I remember hearing people try saying he was done in like 2005. I think he can still probably have a pretty good season. Don't think he'll play as good as last year, but they need to get their running game back in order. Peterson was good last season, but he wasn't near as good as he had been in the two seasons prior to last. I'm hoping that Gerhart can get a lot of carries this season and take a lot of the load off of AP. Plus, Harvin should be pretty well improved and hopefully Rice can have another year like that again.

I don't mean fall off the map slide, just return to normalcy. That was his first season over a 100 QB rating. His career average is 86 and four and five seasons ago he posted back to back low 70's. I expect him to do well but I expect more INT's and more average Favre play as well.

Yeah we'll definitely see more INT's. A lot of people don't realize that he had the lowest INT's in the entire league last season. He had like 7 or something like that.

There has got to be some NFL or NCAA gambling rule about this somewhere right? Can you imagine all the people who want to make this happen. The Mafia is getting some calls with great deals right about now.

Brett Favre is a true American hero. He keeps us entertained during the off-season.

If there was no such thing as "Favre-Watch", then we would just get something even crappier (And yeah, I'll admit that I'm more interested in hearing about Brett Favre than I am about who's got the edge in the battle to be the Panthers #2 Tight End).

If the Texans win the Super Bowl, I promise to stop posting on this board.

Geez, I seriously can't stand Favre. He's like the uncle who has all the sordid jokes at the reunion. After awhile, you grow older and the act becomes stale and worn out. We get it already. Move on. Do something different for a change. :runningitintotheground:

Who has two thumbs and likes constant attention?

NO, no, no, no, no - you don't get it at all do you? The way it works is you pledge that if the Texans win the Super Bowl, you will continue posting on this board.

(Sigh)

I have many leather-bound books. My library smells of rich mahouganey. I'm friends with Merlin Olsen. He comes over sometimes. I'm sorry, I'm not very good at this. Let me start over. You have a smokin' hiney. I mean it. That thing is good. I want to be friends with it.

His days of being the difference maker are done. at this point, he's mostly a product of the talent around him. None of that was more apparent than last season & the season before that....and the season before that.

Teams around the league should stop allowing him to do this either you play or you don't MJ unretired twice and the second with Washington was the pitts.

That is a joke. You clearly don't like the guy to say something so ridiculous. He threw the least amount of INT's last season and was right up there with all of the other QB's as far as TD's thrown. Players around him don't help him not to throw INT's when that's been the worst part of his game throughout his entire career. Rice hadn't done anything until last season when Favre came in. Their WR's had been under acheiving for years over there. So you're telling me that talent around him is what made Favre able to throw that 60 yard bullet down the field on the last play of the game? Or the game the very next week when he threw another bomb to to put his team in an easy FG position to win the game in the final minute? He was spectacular last season. I laugh every off season when I hear the "Favre needs to retire because he's done" garbage. I've been hearing his bashers say that for like 4 years now and every time they're proven wrong they scatter and disappear only to resurface the next off season to say the same stuff again with no substance to back up the claims other than bringing up his age which hasn't been a factor as of yet.

And the season before that he was on the Jets with Jerrico Cotchery and Lavernous Coles for heaven's sake and Coles was horrible that season and Cotchery is vastly overrated. He's proven by now that he's not cut out to be a #1 WR. Favre had one #2 WR and a #3 WR in Coles. Yeah, that was a lot of talent he had to work with.

If you want to bash him for not making his decisions for years with GB, then fine. But that's a broken record any way. GB sent him packing. If you don't like Favre the person then just say so, but to sit here and say that he wasn't good last year and it was the players around him who stunk it up the years before he got there is just flat out hatred of the guy on a personal level to say something so misinformed. The only guy that was a big time play maker before he got there was Peterson and Peterson and the O line both were worse last year than the year before if you had watched any Vikings games.

Well Gary it's on the Vikings to put their foot down. But last time I checked this isn't hurting the Vikings one bit. It didn't hurt them last off season and the Vikings were just a hair away from going to the SB. Sure it might not be fair to some of his teammates as far as training camp goes, but I'm sure they'd rather have Favre than Sage Rosenfels playing for them. Favre is going to play again this year. He's just dragging this out so he can miss mini camp and training camp probably. But the Vikings are the ones that let him do it and you knew that he was going to take forever to decide this off season so why are you surprised really? The Vikings knew exactly what they were getting themselves into with Favre and at the end of the say they're still better off with him and all of his indecisiveness than they are without him.

Brett probably already told the Vikings he will be back. He is probably just doing the Baseball thing for fun. And to get his Alma Mater in the headlines.

If he thinks he still has game left then good for him but I just wish he'd say so already. I am not saying he does not have any game left. He sure does but maybe Brad would go easy on him in T.C. anyway.

I think Brad's got his hands tied man. Brad wants to keep his job by any means possible. Favre helped to save his job last year actually because Childress went into last season on the hot seat big time and then was awarded an extension. The owners in Minnesota know that Favre will sell tickets and keep the fans excited. They're going to do what they have to do to keep Favre happy and around for another year. I don't think Childress has any say so on those matters really at the end of the day. The problem now with the Vikings though is that they are getting old pretty fast now. Their O line is pretty old and they were beaten up last season at the end. The Williams brothers are getting pretty old now as well on the D line. Remember how bad the protection was for Favre in the post season? It was terrible.

Give Brett a break! He's a grandpa! :)

I've always liked the guy and excuse his silly antics. I know I shouldn't but I do. He is just a fun guy to watch. I hope he does come back. Can't be for the money. He's got to have plenty of that.

yep. And that is the entire point of the NFL at the end of the day: to entertain.

I like Favre, but I watch very little media, so I don't get exposed to much of "Favre watch". Maybe that's y'all's problem, too much tv watching! ;)

Well ya know DB statistics supposedly show that people watch more television than spend time with their kids...

not being a parent myself I don't know if those stats are flawed or people are doing that to retain some semblance of strong mental health...kids can make one crazy right? :headhurts:

Their time to when is either now or in three or four years when they are all reloaded and ready to make a run again. The whole team overall not everyone is growing old rather fast. Do you fire Brad once this run is over just because you might have to fill some holes all over again on the O and D line? Maybe even QB once Farve is really done? I don't think so Brad has already proven you just get him the talent and he knows what to do from there but this is the first time they've had a decent QB in awhile. What is a coach to do without all of the tools? You foregett the hammer the house won't get built. Will it? Now Brett is the hammer and the home is very close to being completed.
