Texans trade #20 to St Louis in exchange for picks #33 & #65
The reasoning: St Louis (surprisingly) decides to take the best player in the draft & picks Suh @ #1 as spags couldnt resist an elite d-lineman to help transform last years poor unit into something resembling the giants d-line of a few yrs back. They did this with the intention of taking Colt McCoy @ #33 as their qb of the future. However, due to Jimmy Clausen's unexpected tumbledown the draft board, the rams make a tough decision for a team with so many holes & decides to trade up & get the much higher rated qb on their board. #20 is as high as they can move up with their 2nd & 3rd rounders. For the Texans, the trade down was a welcome option with both Earl Thomas & Kyle Wilson off the board.
#33-Brian Price, DT, UCLA. Suits what the texans do as a smallish passrushing DT's. Very productive player with good film who wouldve been a first rounder most years.
#51-Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers. Athletic corner with good measurables who tackles well & also plays special teams so ticks all the Texans boxes as a possible replacement for Dunta
#65-Ben Tate, RB, Auburn. And the Texans take their RB. Tate is a good sized back with nice speed & explosion.
#81-Jon Asamoah, G, Illnois. Athletic ZB guard with nice movement & strength to fight it out & hopefully turn our interior OL into less of a weakness
#118-Robert Johnson, FS, Utah. Instinctive coverage FS that could push the recovering Eugene Wilson or improving Dom Barber for the starting FS spot
#150- Myron Lewis, CB, Vandy. Cant have too many corners & hes a prototype, team leader type i.e. this year bennett/molden pick
#187-Donald Jones, WR, Youngstown State. Project wr
#197- Lindsey Witten, DE, Conneticut. Very undersized speed rusher to give tim bulman some competition & maybe improve 3rd down pass rush occassionally
#227- Jonathan Crompton, QB, Tennesse. Played in a pro style offence and ok movement so take a flyer on him
