QBs are rarely the best players in the NFL draft. That has rarely stopped them from rising to the top.

Jamarcus Russell, remember him? Who was that guy that Detroit picked?

Does St Louis need a QB?

Is there a QB in this draft that may rise to the top of the order?

Bradford has the possibility of going high, and there will be a few guys that will probably help themselves in the combine and pro days like Jimmy Clausen, Tony Pike, McCoy(assuming he's hopefully healthy to participate), Zac Robinson, Max Hall, and Time Tebow.

I think Suh is close to being a safe pick as a top pick. Does St. Louis need a QB? I dunno for sure they've had trouble keeping Bulger healthy, but I think they might be able to find someone to groom that would be a good value pick at the top of the second like a Max Hall, Tony Pike, or McCoy.

Either way there's a lot of room for improvement top to bottom with that squad.

1. Detroit took Matthew Stafford.
2. Does St. Louis need a QB? Yes. They meed help just about everywhere.
3. Can a QB be the #1 pick? Sure. Bradford could be taken #1. Is it likely no. Suh is the best player in this draft followed by Eric Berry. St. Louis' coach is Steve Spagnuolo, a defensive coach. I think he is gonna want to take the best defensive player(and in this case best player overall) and start to remake his defense. By sliding Suh next to Carriker at DT and having Long and Little at the DEs that is the beginning of a very solid dline front.

I don't think any of the top QBs will be at the combine throwing. It just does not make sense. If you wait till your pro day you can throw to YOUR receivers who know your routes. Whereas at the combine you have to throw to receivers who are there who may or may not know your tendencies. So, if you are a top QB it makes no sense. However, if you are a second tier QB it does make sense to throw becuase you can have a good day and have people start talking about you and getting your draft stiock up.

So, expect Bradford, Claussen, Pike and McCoy to throw at their Pro Days and Hall & Tebow to throw at the combine. Tebow has to prove he is a QB and he can do that by throwing to people not familiar with him.

Clausen and Bradford are the only guys that could realistically go real high.

Clausen is probably guaranteed to go top five and Bradford is probably guaranteed to go top ten. After those two there aren't any more first round caliber QBs, unless somebody risks a first on Tebow.

Nobody after those three has a shot at the first round, IMO.

I think the Rams would be crazy to take a QB . The other elephant in the room is they took Chris Long 2nd overall . That's a lot of money on your DL if you draft Suh . If I were them , I'd trade down .

They also took Carriker not too long ago.

The only guys who are really in the conversation for the #1 pick are:

Suh - they may pass on him because of the reason you already mentioned
Berry - they already have Atogwe at FS, who is one of their best players
Okung - they just took Smith last year
Clausen & Bradford

I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Clausen with the #1 overall pick. At the current rate, Bulger doesn't have many hits left before he is done.

Clausen will go high, and so will Bradford, after that it's a crapshoot. Remember, Josh Freeman got picked in the first round last year so anything can go with a QB.

Everybody needs to go catch The Fever because he will probably go in the 2nd or 3rd round. I didn't get to see him play, mostly because he played for Central Michigan, but, he's put up some gobbo statistics and isn't tiny enough to need a phone book drive a la Colt Brennan.

I was impressed with LeFevour in his bowl game. I also thought Levi Brown would make a nice developmental qb.

LeFevour will be one of those guys that needs to sit a few years so he can digest a pro style offense.

He has the size, mobility, mechanics, and accuracy of a NFL QB. His arm strength is average, but that shouldn't be a big deal. I've seen him make the kinds of throws that he will be required to make at the next level.

Good take on the top QBs in the draft.Do you think if McCoy can't compete in any of the things like the senior bowl would he throw at the combine?

I'm also thinking that there might be some interesting things that could happen in the late first and early second. For a team looking to rebuild there's going to be good value in snaging a Max Hall, Tony Pike, or McCoy.

What's going to play on those QBs is Pete Carroll going to look for a replacement to groom in Seattle? If Kurt Warner does retire how comfortable do the Cards feel about Leinart? Marc Bulger has had problems staying healthy in St. Louis and hasn't had a season where he has thrown more TDS than INTs in three years now. Good value at the top of the second and you don't have to throw a young guy in the fire right away. Oakland? Carolina makes a move for a younger QB?

That chart at the bottom is pretty impressive .

Taking the raw analysis compared to top QB's who played the same system (And apparently played their true jr year, which is why Sanchez was omitted) is very pointed towards an impressive QB.

Still, no QB is ever a lock to not fail.

I think Bradford will eventually be the best QB out of this class but there is no doubt in my mind that Clausen is the most prepared to step in and play right away. That's why I think he will end up being the #1 pick.

I think St. Louis needs to take a page from us. Actually if they do, this would be the draft to do it because there aren't really any other players at the skill positions who could easily be #1 like there was when we picked Mario.

If they go for the Dline, I believe they stand a better chance to win more games now. Going with the QB with the line they have now is only going to prolong the "improvement". Let a veteran QB try to get that offense started. With a good defense that could put your struggling offense in better position to score instead of having to go for long drives, you could win. Just try to win in the trenches first.

They've gone defense early and often in the past few drafts. Bulger's injuries are largely due to an OL problem.

Like it's been said early, what they need to do, is trade down & get them a good Center or Guard. If they can't do that, there's nothing wrong with a good QB prospect that can sit and learn behind Bulger.. for a few months.

They've two OTs since 2005, I don't know how they're doing, or how happy they are with their recent draft picks... but they've taken LBs, Safeties, CBs... you would think their defense is set, just need some coaching up.

I'm not a draft guru, but I would think they would want out of that top spot in a bad way.

Hell, they could draft Clausen or Bradford, sign Pennington or Collins to a relatively small contract and let him learn. I mean Suh looks like an awesome prospect, but if you get a QB who is HOF caliber you are always competitive. They've also drafted DL the past couple of years (Adam Carriker, Chris Long) they may just say screw it and draft a QB.
