Texas kick returner D. J. Monroe can rejoin the team before the BCS title game against Alabama after charges for driving while intoxicated were dropped in exchange for a plea agreement, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Monroe pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction of a passageway Friday and received deferred adjudication, local reports said.

Texas coach Mack Brown planned to talk to Monroe and his family next week about his plans for the freshman when Brown returns from a recruiting trip, the American-Statesman reported, citing an athletic department spokesman.

"He's extremely happy," Monroe's lawyer, Brian Roark, said, according to the Austin newspaper. "He is hoping to play in the national championship game and continue his career at Texas."

Monroe was suspended indefinitely after being arrested on a drunken driving charge in November, hours after a win against Baylor.

Before missing three games, Monroe set a Texas record with two kickoff returns for touchdowns this season for the Longhorns. He also had 110 yards on 20 carries at tailback.

The second-ranked Longhorns will play the No. 1 Crimson Tide on Jan. 7 in the Citi BCS National Championship Game.

He said that's why "we have attorneys" as a general statement. The same way I would say that's why "we have hospitals" if someone is seriously ill. He then said that is why "he" will have an attorney.

BTW, why should "I" be ashamed?? Because I root for a team that had a player get pulled over while under the influence? Didn't that happen to a Texans player earlier this season? Should we all as Texans fans be ashamed because of some player's actions that we don't even know. I didn't raise either one of those guys.

That goes for most celebrities. Do you think OJ Simpson would have got away with a double murder if he were just some guy? I am not saying it's right but unfortunately that is the way it is sometimes.

Of course it can work the opposite also. Being a celeb also can cause you to be made an example of. Just ask Plaxico Burress.

You can't win championships without criminals...period!

Look at all the best programs in the country and give me one that hasn't had a player get in trouble for something.

We make these 18 year old kids celebrity's and they feel like they can get away with anything.

This happens everywhere, not just at UT.

Early in Franchione's (sp?) time in College Station he had something like 14 players arrested of ticketed over one spring and summer, for things from public intoxication to B&E (thats from memory). Miami and FSU have repeatedly had issues, etc.

20 year old boys do stupis ****, and if you play DI football for a big program you're likely to get away with it. Same if you're a pro.

Edit: It was 9 players in the stretch at A&M and it happened over one fall. The B&E charge, coupled with drug possesion happened as Franchione skipped out to coach Bama.

I am trying to process the problem with this situation. Coach Brown said that the athlete's story was different from the police report, and that's why we have lawyers. Is that a bad thing?

The athlete was in his room during room check so where he went afterwards is strictly on him. He was suspended for that behavior and I would be surprised if the punishment ended with that. I don't see that the situation with him breaking a rule would be any different if he attended another university. But, if he had done the same thing with the same result at TCU would this generate as much interest as it has at UT?

Yea..I think he posted he had some Xmas trip planned. Where it's beautiful, sunny and he can stare at the gals in bikinis.

One more and I'll get off this. After all I really don't like to piss off so many good folks. I enjoy your company too much for that (no sarcasm).

Did anybody see the tape of the arrest? He failed miserably. He admitted drinking two shots (a double-shot, btw, he's 20) and threw up in the squad car twice before the transport. I once threw up in my mother-in-law's toilet while I had a 102 temperature and got a stiffer sentence. One of the first things he said was "I play football at UT" as if it mattered.

As for me thinking he got the same treatment as other Horns do? I've been here 27 years and I've lost count how many times this has happened only to see the press stick up for them and actually make fun of other schools for having athletes get arrested and being found guilty.

It isn't so much a hatred for UT as it is for the system that I now believe was bought.

Also, spelling it "ulimni" was pretty bad....lol. :redface:
 
As a UT student myself I can't even begin to tell you the special treatment these Longhorn football players get. Sergio Kindle crashed his car into an apartment building while he was texting and he didn't have to serve jailtime or loose his license...because he's Sergio Kindle.

Imagine if you or me did this, guess what would ahppen to us?


UT alums are also guilty because they throw wild parties with topless girls and booze just to recruit players. JaMarcus McFarland told a reporter about one of these parties and then decided to attend Oklahoma U to play football.

The only reason anyone puts up with this crap is because the UT football team is self-sufficient and brings in more then $20 million + in revenue and also funds the other sports programs like volleyball and womens basketball, not to mention the ammount of exposure UT gets.

The strong football program also draws in smart students who want to attend a school with a good football program and good academics (I'm begenning to doubt the later after my first semester).

I'm not hating I'm just telling you guys how I feel and what Iv'e learned from other athletes.
 
Football players at major colleges get special treatment. How does anybody who has gone to high school in Texas not know this? (No it isn't right)
