Longhorns vs. Aggies - Thanksgiving '09

I don't know what Colt's plans are for the NFL however with that in mind does he really want the Heisman? When is the last time a Heisman winner has had a great NFL career?

Yeah, not a lot of NFL Hall of Famers on that list. Actually not of lot of NFL good (not great) players on that list either.

Awesome game. I'm proud of my team, even though they didn't get the win. Jeff Fuller, Jerrod Johnson and Christine Michael played a hell of a game out there, and the best part is that they will all be back next year. I'm excited.

That Aggie defense needs some work, but the offense is going to be amazing next year and the year after.

Great game. Great atmosphere. Great tailgating today, perfect weather. Couldn't ask for much more.. though a field-goal would of been nice...

class shown by the A&M faithful at Kyle Field. very respectful and classy for the players well being.

not surprised, kyle field is a celebration of college football traditions. its a cliche but its true.

Have to say, I was disappointed in the Texas fans who started a "Texas Fight" cheer when Christine Michael was down for a couple minutes in the 3rd or early 4th I believe. Didn't like that.

Other than that and the fact that we ran out of time, it was a pretty good day.

Also, glad to hear that Deon Beasley returned to the sidelines before the game was over. That was a brutal block that he took.

that was one of the best college football game ive watched this year... im ut fan so im glad they won but the aggies have one hell of an offense set up for next season

I listened to it on the radio around a campfire out here in the country, it was a great game, Craig Way does a great job calling the games, would have preferred to see the action but it was a lot of fun none the less.

#3 team in the nation being fought tooth and nail by an unranked team. Proof enough the Austin team is pretty overrated on a year of mainly subpar play in Div 1A.

Simply innaccurate, go back and look at the Florida and Alabama's close calls/crappy games. Probably could be said for all the top ten teams.

I agree that was a great game. Aggies fans should be excited about the future. I am as well because the Big 12 Conference is more interesting whenever ther is real competition for the title. Texas A&M and Nebraska should be even more competitive next year, and I think Baylor will improve as well. Now if only Colorado and Kansas could improve we could really start to see some great college football games every week of Conference play.

would expect nothing less from A&M students, and horns have shown their true form after the bonfire tragedy.

football is secondary to players well being.

after the bonfire tragedy, it was tough getting too fired up for anything as a Longhorn. part of your being wanted the Ags to win because of the insane tragedy that went down.

the thing that impressed me the most about that horrible week was the amount of people that donated blood or offered aid and assistance. it was a precursor to 911 in that a tragedy brought people together.

18 Freshmen - they should be good for the next several years.
Exactly what I was thinking. They put up some good numbers against the #1 rushing defense in the nation with a bunch of freshmen - the sky may be the limit for this group IF they can get a half-decent defense worked out. the 610 guys were commenting this morning that all the top teams have top-ranked DEfenses, further proof that the "Defense wins championships" mantra isn't all hot air yet again.

The Aggies played great however it's just another game of Colt being Colt. All Colt does is win baby!

Honestly, Colt and the Longhorns are a 3 or 4 loss team in the PAC-10 and 'bout 500 in the SEC. Ridiculous that a "name" school like UT can get this high in the rankings based upon their tradition/history alone.
If I followed college ball as closely as the NFL game, I'd really be upset they don't have a playoff system. Since I don't, not really a big deal for me.

translation: honestly, I am a hater that knows nothing about college football

its quite obvious you don't follow the college game very closely because you know next to nothing about it.

3 or 4 losses in Pac10? .500 in the SEC? give me a break, man.

Texas isn't a 'name' school, its a powerhouse football program from a powerhouse atheltic program from a powerhouse state chock full of talent.

What could honestly make you feel that Texas is so bad. What sort of criteria are you using? I just don't see it. Even the most ardent Aggie supporter would speak highly of what Mack Brown has done here in the state of Texas. So you are basically saying that the best team in the Big 12 is not even in your top25? .500 in the SEC would be a toilet bowl berth and no Top25 ranking. It's just one of the stupidest posts I have ever read and outs yourself as an imbecile and a complete tool. I am not saying you are a tool, I don't know you but anyone who thinks Texas would be .500 in the SEC this year is just way off base and obviously trolling.

A&M played great last night. Let's not forget that. Yeah, the Horns defense blew some coverage but those passes were right on the money and no level of coverage is going to stop that. Horns defense came out flat and A&M took advantage like a good football team will do. The Ags had a few bad penalties and that interception in the end zone was just bad football, but for the most part, they played up to their talent level and nearly made enough plays to win the football game.

They made a bunch of plays. The Horns just made a few more. A&M has talent, they just haven't gotten the recipe right since Slocum was canned. They will get it turned around in the next few years. Too much talent not to be able to turn it around. Maybe Kubiak if he gets canned? Probably wouldn't want to take the job right after Sherman. I would imagine they are friends and taking your friend's job may be too much.

Basically saying Texas would be .500 in the SEC is akin to saying that players from the State of Texas suck and that our kids aren't as good as even the average SEC-Deep South talent. That is just ludicrous and makes Texas out to be some sort of 2nd rate state and 2nd rate program.

Wanted to mention again how classy the Kyle Field fans were at the game during the injury timeout. it really represented the school and our state well to a national audience. keepin' it classy, college station.

Plus with all those TDs and points, a lot of Aggie fans were getting some serious lovin' in the stands.

Anything goes with A&M, it's always that way that is why it is a scary game if you are a UT fan.

Speaking of the SEC Alabama is getting spanked right now. What does that say about the SEC? I am not saying it is saying much but you can hate on any team this season, even Florida.

Wow. Nothing personal, but you should probably stick to commenting about curling or something, because you sure as hell don't know college football. I'm no Longhorn, but that's just a dumb comment.

It was a given the Horns were going to have a high ranking..they won their bowl game last year and Colt was returning. Solid defense.

Well I'm a Big 12 fan and I can tell you the conference is pathetic this year,
it's embarrassingly bad and I hate to admit it. But then you throw in those nonconference games UT has like its season opener against that dreaded
opponent the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Who ?
And while USC is certainly way below their usual form this year, I've seen some games involving Oregon, Oregon State, Standford, and Cal and any of those teams could give UT fits. Dang, UT struggled agaisnt the Aggies last night ! And the SEC ? They'd be in over their heads against that conferences top teams.

Wow. I don't have a friendly bone in my body for the Horns but that post is way over the top. The SEC wasn't the typical SEC this year in my book. The Pac-10 isn't that good as a whole as predicted. No matter my opinion on those congerences I still think with all due respect that was a little harsh. Even the best schools along with Pro teams have stinkers from time to time.

That is an intense rivalry game so you can draw any conclusions about UT because of the A&M game. Bama is losing to a 4 loss Auburn team right now. A surprise? No, another rivalry game.

Florida has struggled this season too and who did they play last week? Florida International Atlantic or something like that.

Sure, the Big 12 is down however so is the SEC. No SEC team looks better than Texas right now. I am not saying Texas looks much better either however they don't look inferior to anyone.

The bottom line is the system is screwed up. I personally hate it. TCU might be better than everyone however we will probably never know.

Auburn is 4 losses because it's in the SEC, that's my point. Seriously what do you think they'd have for a record if in the Big 12 ?
It's well known, teams just can't get up week in and week out for peak performance and that's why teams in weaker conferences have better records. In a strong conference off days mean losses, in a weak conference not so much. That's well known of course.
This team doesn't stack up to VYs Rose Bowl team, and not just because of Vince. That team had a terrific defense, these guys have anything but a strong defense.
Hey I'm for the Big 12, I hope they come back and soon. And BTW, I mentioned the Pac-10: that's where more and more of this states top prospects are playing these days.

This Texas team has a pretty damn good defense too - earlier in the year thier defense is what kept them undefeated. Its just been the past couple games that the offense has played to its potential.

As for the big 12 - It may not be as tough as it has been in past seasons because Oklahoma isnt as tough as normal but its still a tough conference to go undefeated in -Texas, Tech , OSU , T-AM , Nebraska and Colorado have all been good for a long time.

We were at the game. It was dead silent in the stadium while he was down on the field. It was absolutely amazing how quiet 84K people could be.

Kyle field was rocking, the student section showed up big time and represented well.

Bonfire was awesome. I haven't been to a bonfire since the early 90's, it brought back incredible feelings. My son has been very involved with the bonfire and was named load pot Tuesday night. It was very special for Dave (my husband) that he got to be there to see it. To tell the story backwards, Dave went up and helped cut one weekend, so he got to march in with our son's dorm and was up front and center when the bonfire was lit. Our RV was parked next to the bonfire memorial, just made it all the more special.

A comparison between the 2005 and 2009 Texas Defenses:

Yards Per Game
2005: 303
2009: 264

Points Allowed Per Game:
2005: 16.4
2009: 15.4

3rd down percentage:
2005: 30.5%
2009: 25.6% (this is higher now, as this is the sole stat that I could not find UT's rank in after the A&M game).

Interceptions:
2005: 11
2009: 21

I believe that the 2005 Longhorns ranked better in the red zone, but otherwise they have been outperformed in every statistical category by this year's defense. Earl Thomas is better than Griffin or Huff, and Sergio Kindle is better than any LB we had on that team. Lamar Houston is also better than any DT on the '05 team. I think this year's defense is much better, despite A&M rolling them. Even after that game they still outrank the '05 team in several key categories.

It was real classy by Kyle Field fan but not surprising. There have been a few black eyes here and there but for the most part its always pretty respectful rivalry. The whole mascots thing was long ago and every mascot got stolen except, I believe Revielle (due to the actual round the clock protection on the dog at all times) and maybe Houston's cougar.

Actually I don't know if they still protect Revielle around the clock, but my friend's dad is a Corps alumni out of College Station and back in the day (late 60s early 70s) he said that you were given times where you had to take care and guard the dog as a member of the corps. I think he said the 'Fish' corps really get crapped on by the upperclassmen. Go figure.

When I was there (granted it was a while ago), Rev lived with one of the corps companies - E-2. She has a sophomore who is her primary handler that she goes everywhere with. I even had a class with her one semester. The tradition is that if she barks in class, the class is canceled. Sadly, that never happened in my class. She gets to sleep on whatever bunk she chooses, the owner of the bunk has to find elsewhere to sleep.

The previous Rev had some problems adjusting and was retired early. Quite frankly, Collies are probably a bad choice for this lifestyle. Collies are known for their loyalty and devotion to their owners, I think it would be hard on any dog, but especially a collie, to have to have a new person each year. Just a side note. But don't feel too sorry for Rev, she is treated like a queen.
