What happened on 610 this morning?!?

Hrrrmm, apparently Sumlin commented on John Lopez's continual speculation that Sumlin is signed, sealed, and delivered to his next job.

Someone listen to the podcast and give a better recap :)

Some KU fans are throwing his name around. He's put together a good recruiting class and has ties to Texas high schools. I think he's too young and doesn't have enough experience to jump up to a major conference just yet. He's doing a good job at UH right now. It's been fun following them this year. He would have to bring a big time DC with him because defense doesn't seem to exist under him at the present.

Hope he gave John "I didn't say that" Lopez the bidness.

If Sumlin can make UH a successful and "desirable for recruits" program again, I do not see why he would want to bolt. This is a gold mine of a recruiting area, which is not a luxury that many other coaches enjoy.

They were talking about Mangino and Sumlin ask Lopez where he ( Sumlin ) would be coaching at this week . He said every week Lopez speculates that Sumlin's leaving for another school . He told Lopez that he gets Emails from recruits wanting to know if he's leaving . Sumlin said that rumors are very unsettling to his players and school and if he wanted to know something to call him . Sumlin said if he was going to write it , then stae it's speculation and not fact .

Lopez told Sumlin that's part of his job and that was pretty much about it for his part . I think if a local coach who's doing well ask you to tone it down , then Lopez nneds to tone it down but hey ... dirt sells .

I think he needs more seasoning. He won some big games but they also looked totally unprepared in a few games...like last week. I think one more year and then see what the landscape is.

John Lopez is a crock. I can't stand that he's on the morning show now. I really don't listen to that show much anymore. Sumlin should kick his ass. I would bet if this keeps up, Sumlin will find somewhere else to do his radio show.

I like that Marc calls Lopez out, a lot. Marc puts Lopez in his place, and Marc does not seem like a very aggressive guy.

Because UH is still in C-USA. Low budget. Average (at best) overall athletics support. Not a great academic reputation.

If Sumlin can make UH a successful and "desirable for recruits" program again, he will bolt. A bigger school will offer him 2-3 times what UH could reasonably pay him, and they will offer national TV audiences and direct ties to a BCS bowl. I'm not saying that KU is that school by any means, but a school in a situation to KU's in a few years might be calling his name. I think he has a little ways to go on the field before he's ready to jump up as a HC, but he's someone I don't expect to stick around at UH for more than a few more years.

Unfortunately I think you are right. UH is probably seen as more of a stepping stone/launching pad to bigger and better things (conferences). It is feasible to think that UH could be a contender if they could somehow manage to recruit the local talent as well as steal that talent away from the bigger programs. That is quite a job considering the amount of BCS schools that dip into the Houston talent pool.

I think he'll be somewhere else next season. Seems to me like he's the hot coaching commodity right now.

And to an extent KU is just a stepping stone program at the moment. So I'm riding that same boat as you. Mangino is the 17th highest paid coach in America, just had a new football only facility built, new practice fields built, new 8,000 seat expansion for boosters being built, and upgrades to the residence halls. What does that get KU? Last place in the Big XII North, likely to lose our coach. We are a basketball school, and it's going to take one hell of an effort to get us to anything but a stepping stone to a bigger program. Alas.

Sumlin is a smart guy and his stock is on the rise but I don't see where YTF is wrong on this one.

You could easily point to the UTEP and UCF games as evidence. You gotta have your team prepared for every game, not just the big one.

I don't see Sumlin leaving after this year because he has basically everyone back next year for a run at a BCS bid and I think he could do a lot better than Kansas if he were to leave.

UH loses 2 starters on offense
3 on defense

They should begin the season ranked and thats the first step to getting in the top 12.

Very, very young team. That's how UTEP happened and Central Florida has an outstanding defense.

Marc is the ONLY person on that station that I can even remotely handle listening to. If they were not the station that carries the Texans games, I would never listen to them. When is the Texans' contract with 610 up? The only thing is that 790 and 1560 still have crap for their signal. Some parts of town, I get them clearly, other areas, not so much...
