Houston Texans: Top 10 Prospects

gary

Hall of Fame
It was a selection that was booed quite emphatically, but not because NC State star defensive end Mario Williams wasn’t a good player; he was actually great player in college who finished his final season with the Wolfpack recording 62 tackles, 24.5 for a loss and 14.5 sacks. But because the Houston Texans decided to select Williams over the likes of USC sensation Reggie Bush and Texas’ own Vince Young, the only way Texans fans would accept the 6-foot-7, 291-pound Williams was if he became one of the league’s most dominant forces on defense.

no OD? and i think i'd put Bennett over a couple of the people on that list. he's shown more on defense than Molden.

"Casserly was criticized for a lot of moves during his tenure as Texans GM, but the Williams pick was the last straw, and he resigned shortly after the ’06 draft"

Wrong

No Meco? Really?

Not much of a list if Meco is not on a list of Top 10 Texans!

Scout.com's Chris Steuber continues the top 10 prospects series and begins to breakdown the AFC South with the Houston Texans leading off. In this series, an NFL prospect is classified as a player entering their third year in the NFL or is under 25 years old. Find out who Steuber targeted as the Texans top 10 prospects inside.

Meco is over 25 and is entering his 4th year

Owen is entering his 4th year and is 26.....DeMeco 4th year and turned 25 today.....which reminds me.. Happy Birthday DeMeco.

O.D. is an old man, he doesn't belong on that list, LOL!

But I agree, Bennett should have been on there.

Wait a minute, Bennett is even older than Ryans, so he doesn't qualify either!

Meco was drafted at the same time as Mario, but today is his BD, and he's exactly 25. Tomorrow, he can be considered as over 25, LOL!

Mario was born a few months later.

beat me to it. :)

I didn't know it was DeMeco's birthday until I looked it up.

He still qualifies, because he's entering his third season, but I guess the guy doesn't like the age he's already at and went with the younger Molden.

LOL, Okoye can still qualify for another 2 years.

I would move Cushing down the list, and remove Diles. I would add Antoine Caldwell.

One thing I noticed we have a lot of unproven young talent. I hope they start to prove themselves.

I think Cushing is properly placed. And Diles belongs on that list. As you can see with Duane Brown, lineman are difficult to gauge as they have no stats to prove their worth, other than sacks allowed which is misleading.

The list has sort of a drop off after the top 7. The last 3 could be argued, with Caldwell getting mentioned as well as Quinn and I would throw Jacoby Jones in there but thats just me.

I like the idea of the article, just not the execution.

It seems the article mixed in legitimate "prospects" with established starters and didn't get enough of either category imo.

I would've preferred the author to leave out established starters like Mario, Slaton, Amobi, and Duane Brown in favor of guys who have either yet to play for the Texans (rookies) or guys who have not yet nailed down a starting job. Hence the "prospects" label.

Just my opinion though ;)

He named a few players who aren't prospects anymore and are now starters. JJ is still an unproven WR.

Amobi is an established starter regardless of whether he's actually proven it because DT happens to be our weakest unit on the team. Being an established starter means he's not a prospect.

He will be better this year though.

I have to agree with you dc. I think Mario was basically Kubes pick/decision probably with the support of Casserly. The only pick I heard was CC's out right was OD and he had to convince Kubes to get him. As for "being criticized for the Williams pick" and that being "the last straw" I think is dead wrong. I don't know where he got that from. CC was already a "lame duck" GM when Kubes was hired and he only stuck around to help him with the Draft and FA. JMHO!
