Is the goal to correctly guess the selections of the individual teams? or correctly rank the players in the order they'll be selected? or are we simply trying to get the order selected right?

Is this about being in tune with what teams needs are, or purely speculation based on talent?

In short, why did you do a mock?

When I do a mock, it's about joggling team needs with player rankings.

Ultimately, the point of doing the mock is simply to learn more about the players and teams so that when the draft is happening, I understand more about what's going on.

I love all the pleasant names I am called by others and live off sarcastic comments about how stupid I am and how I'll look back later and see how stupider I am than I was.

Seriously, before the MB I used to use huge poster boards to list depth of Texans by position. I'd gather pages of notes and clippings from paper. I'd listen to Kiper and McClain and anyone else I could find to offer their opinion and then I'd play GM. Seldom got it right but it was in my blood. I'd literally go all night without sleep during the 90 days before the draft, imagining trade scenarios and what if we got this guy. Now I do exactly the same thing but have this board and all the comments to add to my fun.

One of these days, I will actually have a life or a girlfriend and then what am I going to do? Withdrawal is not something I look forward to.

I like to learn more about the players and how they might fit with the Texans.

It also helps me learn more about the ever-changing personnel of the other teams in the NFL.

I watch college football about 12 hours a day during the season so I might as well use it for something.

its fun the same way posting on a message board full of mostly strangers about the Houston Texans is fun.

Its talking sports with people who actually understand what you are saying rather than ESPN regurgitators

For me its:

1 - Fun.
2 - A way to pass the long break from end of season to the draft.
3 - To learn about personnel, analyze players, and be more tuned in the NFL team needs, players, etc.

I agree with the above posts.

I think its fun to try and predict what happens and see how close (or far) you really were.

For example: Having Michael Johnson and William Moore in the Top 10 pre season... hugely mistaken. Having BJ Raji as the Texans pick in mid 1st and being told he's a late 1st or 2nd round guy (some still may consider that though). No talk whatsoever of Jason Smith and then he goes #2 overall!!!

A. Fun
B. I like seeing how my mock compares to Texans draft
C. Getting to see how fellow mockers are looking at the draft
D. All of the above

Answer D

I've never done a mock as i don't have the knowledge of all the top propects like some of you guys do. Without your guys mocks I really wouldn't a good idea on who we should consider for the Texans. From there i can download games, watch highlight reels on youtube etc to form my own opinion on if i think we should draft this guy etc.

I do really love this part of football, the evaluating of talent coming out of college and the amount of analysis on which player will go where - you don't see that in any other sport to this extent.

I don't really have enough knowledge to do an NFL-wide mock. I don't know the intricacies of the other team needs... I actually never did an NFL mock, but I did a lot of seven-round Texans mocks. I/we know their needs inside and out, of course... but if I did an NFL-wide mock, that would just be silly. I just don't pay enough attention to other teams aside from our division rivals.

That is exactly how I feel as well. I have to say this year I did not learn a lot because being on the road.

The same reason some people like to do cross word puzzles, play video games or go fishing but throw all the fish back....

Its something they want to do.

love the NFL, addicted to new talent infused every April in what's known as the draft with always a keen eye towards players who could help improve Texans

as a bonus sidebar it really helps you overcome others in fantasy NFL on ESPN :whip:

Now is the time to set up your 2010 board....
the very early mocks are out. The college gurus have stuck out their studs for 2010. The college match ups are out and you can start planning who you are going to scout. What college match ups you're going to pay for ? Very early in the process this year....I thought the perfect complementary back would be Harvey Unga of BYU. He stayed in school. Do we or will we still be in the market for a comp RB in 2010 ? Who's in the college pre season all America and all conference teams. They will be out soon. Who falls off and who works themselves on the lists by the time the season is over ?

Who has and did not draft a QB ? Will the DE's Jacksonville drafted in '08 finally be productive ? The two new o-lineman in '09 solve their rushing woes ? Will Cincinnati's boom or bust picks pay off ?
Is this Garrads last stand ? Matt Schaubs ?
