ESPN Prime trade down candidate the Texans

jppaul

Cut and Dry
Premium content but I will summarize: (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft...odd&id=4035825)

ESPN says that Texans are in one of the best positions to trade down with SD behind us in need of tackle help, and likely only one top tier tackle left on the board. Likeliest candidate would be Philly, with the proper ammunition (two first rounders give them the ability to trade thier second) and a serious tackle need.

I would agree with most of the assessment but I am not sure an OT will be available at 15. Philly would be coming up from either 21 or 28, which according to the trade chart would net either a 3, 4, and 6th, or a 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. You might still be able to get Matthews at 21 if that is your choice.

I think Oher could still be around at 15 and that may bring Philly calling.

Our greatest chance is Sanchez falling though. Someone will want him.

As for the draft value chart, that thing is for fans and mock drafters. I really don't believe that NFL teams structure their trades around it. Defining a definite value for a certain selection is ridiculous because the talent in the draft isn't the same every year.

You have a point, I was referencing it simply as a guidepost rather than a definitive.

I suggested this same trade with Philly a few weeks ago on another site with a Philly board and they didn't seem to enthusiastic about it. Here's what I suggested.

TRADE PROPOSAL:

Houston would trade pick #15 worth 1050 trade value points
to
Philadelphia for pick #28-660 points, pick #53-370 points and pick #182-19 points, totaling 1049 points. We can even skip the pick #182, 6th rounder, if needed. I threw it in there to make the trade point value workout evenly. Opinions?

Personally, I'd love this trade down to 28 and picking up Philly's 2nd and 6th round picks. We could get a good player at 28 cheaper and of better value than having to reach for someone at 15.

I would be fine with the trade down, I think Matthews will slip considering the Roid rumors or truth.

Another trade possibility is 21+28 for 15+46 which was mentioned in walterfootball. Oher could be there at 15 and Britton will be there for sure. In between us, San Diego and Detroit (if they go Stafford) will both be looking for an OT so this makes some sense.

I think someone is going to jump up for Sanchez.....and Singltary is going to shore up his o-line. And I don't believe he is a fat boy from bama kinda guy.
