Nebraska's Ty Steinkuhler has strong pro day

Anyone remember his Dad, Dean, who played for the Oilers?

Nebraska defensive tackle Ty Steinkuhler turned in an impressive workout in front of 20 NFL teams at his Pro Day, running the 40-yard dash in 4.89 and 4.92 seconds, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com.

The son of former Nebraska All-American offensive lineman Dean Steinkuhler also registered a 9′3″ broad jump, a 31-inch vertical, a 4.56 clocking in the short shuttle, and a 7.38 time in the three-cone drill.

The nearly 6-foot-4 defensive lineman weighed in at 283 pounds and had 23 repetitions in the 225-pound bench press test.

Dean was on his way to being the best of the Oilers impressive group (two hall of fame linemen) when his career was cut short.

I remember him very well, and you're right, he could have been in the HOF if he could have played longer.

The thinking part was for thinking about how Ty might fit into the Texans DL.

That was a pretty good line back then.

Bruce Davis
Bruce Matthews
Jay Pennison
Mike Munchak
Dean Steinkuhler

It would be kind of cool to see Clay Matthews and Ty Steinkuhler on the Texans.

Yep. You have to figure it's been about 26-27 years since Dean played for the Oilers.....

I committed on this because I posted an item (I think on another web page I used to go to) on him when he signed his letter of intent to play at Nebraska. And I lost track of him because Nebraska sucks and because he moved to DT at Nebraska.

BTW Where the Oilers really better with Penningson at OC or Matthews? Dean was an OK OG after his knee injury. He was the best OT in college his senior year, but he was juicing, and so was Remington, but what an OL. Only the USC OL with Munoz and Matthews might of been better.
