2010 uncapped!

Just a reminder that as of now 2010 will not have a salary cap. I slept not a wink last night thinking of how Texans could use this. I realize other teams have same right but many are not going to spend bigger bucks. McNair has voiced his desire to be able spend what he wants.

My question is can not new contracts be set up as in the following example.

Julius Peppers $10 million bonus. Salary for 2009 $1.6 million. Salary for 2010 $10 million. Salary for 2011 $4million.

Bonus is divided as usual over the three years: 10 divided by 3 = $3.4m annually.

Salary cap for 2009 (a capped year under current CBA) $3.4 + $1.6= $4 m
No salary cap 2010: $10 million + 0 bonus.
2011 cap not known: $4m salary.

Total value to player $25.6 million and he gets $21.6m first two years. Salary cap impact is only for 2009 $4million which is cheap for Peppers. I'm not saying I would necessarily give almost $13 million first two years for him but you get idea.

Works even better for a younger player such as Asomugha or Dunta Robinson.

I keep thinking I am missing something but it seems it would allow McNair to offer what he wants without restraint.

JUST REALIZED I MISSED YEAR. First uncap is 2012. Sorry about that.

I hope that the salary cap stays. If the NFL become uncapped, it's going to go the way of baseball. Some teams will be constantly bad while others will spend at will to be good.

I'd rather have a year long lockout until the players give in to a cap than go into 2010 with no cap.

No one is going to give. There is too much money the way it has been going. This will be owners chance to hang tough against union. We will see. I really thought 2010 was the first year without cap. I got NO sleep last night.:gun:
