Could the BCS title game be a Big 12 South Rematch?

Pending UT wins out and OU ends the season with one loss (to UT) Bama and Penn St lose a game ...... USC lost to a non ranked team , thats gonna hurt them in teh BCS standings. Could we see a rematch between UT and OU in the BCS title game ?!?

The only teams above OU in the coaches poll (The one that counts in the BCS) are UT , Bama , Penn State , USC and Texas Tech ....

Pending UT wins out....

For UT to win out , TT has to have at least one loss

PSU has Ohio St. up next on the road ....

Can Bama win out in a TOUGH SEC? They have LSU , Mississippi State and Auburn remaining as well as the SEC title game. (Georgia or Florida in the SEC title game). I see Bama ending the season with one loss ....

USC is ahead of OU in the Coaches Poll , but lost to an unranked team in Oregon State .... thats gonna hurt their computer rankings as well as strength of schedule .... IF OU wins out they SHOULD overtake USC in the BCS Poll.

OU lost to the #1 ranked team in the nation .....

Could we see a rematch of UT & OU in the BCS title game ?

( OU doesnt have to win the conference title game to advance to the BCS title game )

Honestly I think UT and OU are #1 and #2 in no specific order ..... either team could beat the other on a neutral site on any given Saturday.

No.

I seriously believe that even if the computers had UT at 1 and OU at 2 the voters would have no problem dropping OU to keep the NC Game from being a rematch.

The more I think about it and look at schedules to finish the year the more I think a rematch is possible .... No way USC overtakes OU if they both win out , OU finishes the season playing two ranked teams , USC plays no one of merit. Georgia might have a shot at overtaking OU but thats the only team I can see with a shot .... but they have to beat Florida and win the SEC title game which would probably be Bama.

A loss by PSU and Bama at this point would make that rematch a reality if both teams win out ....

It could happen. I'll give you that.

Under your scenario, it probably should happen.

But the human polls make up 2/3 of the BCS & they have a bias.

Even if the computers have UT & OU at #1 & #2 the human polls will drop OU so that another team can get in. They don't want to see a rematch for the NC.

.. USC lost to a non ranked team ,

LSU lost two games last year to unranked teams and somehow still won the NC.

If UT wins at TT this weekend and wins out they will play for the NC against most likely Penn State.

Thats quite possible IF Bama drops a game , otherwise I just cant see PSU overtaking Bama .... They have played much better competition thus far .... and finish the season playing the better schedule.

@ Iowa and home dates with Indiana and Michigan St. dont do much for PSU in terms of their BCS ranking. They have to win out and hope that Bama loses.

The Georgia Florida game next week is a big one in terms of the SEC championship .... Winner gets a shot at knocking off Bama.

Most likely to happen if both Bama and PSU lose is the winner of GA/ Fla this week plays UT for all the marbles.

I could easily see it happening as long as Penn State and Alabama loses. If OU's only loss is to the #1 team in the nation, they deserve a shot.

Do I want to see it? hell no. Playing OU once a season is enough, thank you. If the Horns manage to navigate their schedule undefeated, and that is no small order, the last thing I want to do is have to play a team we beat already and our biggest rival to boot. Give the Horns PennState or Alabama as their NC opponent. They'd spank that arse.

What I want doesn't matter though. Logic says that OU deserves it and a rematch is not anything the pollsters will worry about. In fact, it adds more drama. The thing going against OU would be that they play in the same conference. That would be a huge payday for the Big12 though....whew. HUGE $$$ for everyone, even Baylor.

November 29

OU at Oklahoma State. HUGE game.

I say OK State wins.

So do I.

I think they beat Tech also & finish #2 in the conference.

Of course there is the small matter of the UT-TT game this weekend. I have no idea who will win this one.

If UT wins, I will not be surprised. If TT wins, I will not be surprised.

If Tech wins:

Texas still gets the Big XII South as long as Tech loses to Okie St or Oklahoma.

If Texas wins:

They are almost a sure shot for the Big XII title game.

I thought all year that Oklahoma (because all of their talented skill players) would be the best team we play this year & Okie St (because they run well & stop the run well) would be second.

To be honest, I'm not that worried about Tech. I think they are the 3rd best team we play this year & we already dispatched the top two.

One more thing:

This sentiment does kinda ring true.

Every single thing that Mike Leach has done at Texas Tech has been in preparation of this one game.

To me, this is undoubtedly the most important game in the history of Texas Tech football.

If Tech wins, Leach is validated as a head coach & Tech becomes a real power in the Big XII.

If Tech loses, it just reinforces what we see every single year. Tech has an explosive offense but just can't catch up to Oklahoma or Texas as a program.

Good post, and I agree with everything you just said.
