Deep Steel Blue Sunday Oct 5!!!

Fans who all they do is cry about this, and that's it's too hot to wear blue and I don't have a blue shirt...hey, go to Goodwill, get a BLUE t-shirt for $1.99, it's not really that difficult.

Traditions start with the fans. We have a few and now that we are beginning our 7th season, I think it's great that the Texans are promoting certain traditions, you have to start somewhere. We have our pregame player intros with shouting the Texans' last name, we have '...and that's another Texan's first down!' And we started with Battle Red Day and now we have 2 other days, to celebrate and to bring forth unity in Reliant.

You can certainly choose to wear what color you want to wear, but I think when the Texans are asking and promoting a chance for the community, fans and team to form a common bond, I think it is an opportunity to do just that.

Some of these 'fans' remind me of a quote from the film, "Kelly's Heroes", Donald Sutherland's character said "Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves."

Go Texans!!!
 
I understand what you are saying, Mean Machine, and I certainly respect your perspective.

I think part of the negativity from fans is understandable. Consistent losing makes folks grumpy. While it is nice to have a team in Houston, and I will forever be grateful to McNair for accomplishing it, there comes a point where fans crave success. All the window dressing in the world can't deny the simple fact that part of the tradition being built at the moment is a losing one. I know that these things can take time, but patience is a finite commodity. Fans identify with the team, being a fanatic becomes part of who you are, and at the end of the day, you want to feel like you are part of something bigger than yourself.

I remember the 'house of pain' days at the Astrodome, and it is something that I really hope we can get back to at Reliant. Houston football fans have it in them, without a doubt. But the success of the former Houston team came first, and the 'house of pain' followed on the heels of that success.

I guess my point is that I agree with you in many ways. I just stop short of calling anyone a 'lesser' fan (my generalization) for not following theme days. My take is that if you are still with this team after the past 6 seasons, then you are a Texans fan. No bones about it. Choosing to be positive, realistic, or negative just comes with the territory of rooting for a team that has never had much success. Heck, I go through all of those perspectives, sometimes within the same day! ;)

But yeah, be there, be loud, and wear your colors. :texflag:
 
The idea of different color jersey days is not unique to the Texans. I think all the teams do it in some fashion or another. And it's about One thing--Money. Tradition might be a contrived by-product of the real reason the NFL does this.
The Texans created red game jerseys so people would go to Academy and spend money on red jerseys.

And to make it fun, let's call it Battle Red, Steel Blue and Liberty White. The fans will eat it up and we'll sell even more!

I might be the loner here, but, I don't see anything wrong with that. It's called "marketing" and it's been going on FOREVER!! I would have bought jersey's or tee's in every color anyway, regardless of the special game day promotions. No one is forced to go out and spend money. I do it because I support my team, and regardless of their losing ways, I am a PROUD Texan!!! I wear Texan tee's nearly everyday of the year, so, I do my part in keeping Academy, WalMart, JC Penny's, The Texan Store, etc, etc, etc, in business all year round. Personally, I like the game day color. I was looking at some pics of the Chiefs this morning, and seeing that sea of RED just made me smile and feel good inside. This might sound corny, but, it really was inspirational. I went to a Colts game a couple years ago in Indy, and I swear 95% of their fans had on blue for that game. It was an awesome site. Being hard headed about it is just silly IMHO! If you want to do it, DO IT, if not DON'T!! BUT, I would rather see a dude wearing a red Texan jersey on Steel Blue day than some dude wearing a bright green, ORANGE, maroon, or some other off color. It's a freaking football game!!! HAVE FUN!! That's what it's all about anyway. When it ceases being fun then it is time to stay at home and do something else!
 
As a team the Texans have averaged 5.33 wins per season, not taking into account this season. What impact will my wearing a blue shirt or not have on that number. I have been laughed at for being a Texans fan. I have had Titan fans and Cowboy fans ridicule me for caring about this team. I have had threads on other teams message boards dedicated to me to let the masses of their fans add to that ridicule. I still care about this team and always will. I have been a faithful Texans fan since I found out we were going to get a team. Forgive me for thinking that seven years is enough time to build a team that can atleast have a winning record. Is 9-7 really too much to ask for?
When I show up for the game Sunday I will be wearing the same thing that I always wear and no I will not be wearing a blue Jearsey or blue flea market T-shirt. If they want me to color coordinate with their marketing plan they need to win.

Ah yes, but what comes first, the chickens or the eggs?

We as individuals are stronger if we band together. A color is just a representation of that.

We can't coach the team, or do two-a-days, or any number of things to help the team out. We can just do our part. Show up early, be loud when they want us to be, and well, it isn't much of a hardship to wear something blue.

We can wait until the winning happens. Or we can do our small part to create more of an atmosphere of winning. To believe in things that seem impossible.

I know it is dispiriting when the team starts off this way. I sort of have a theory that the NFL hates our team given some of our imbalanced schedules. But challenges make us stronger, and we can endure losing football, hurricanes, financial crisis, mosquitos, Bud Adams' possum head, etc, and at the end of the day, we will end up with character with some to spare.

The NFL is the best reality programming in the world because you never know what will happen. Anything is possible.

LOL!! I would NEVER want you to feel bad my friend!! I don't want any TEXAN fan to feel bad, but, until we all get what we want, which is a WINNING team, that's what we all will do. I'll just do my own thing to try to feel better. Wearing a blue jersey Sunday will make me feel better, as will seeing all my Texan friends, watching my team AT HOME for the first time this season, and doing my best to think positive. I really dont' care what people wear, as long as they don't show up naked!!:) It would just be a "feel good" day seeing a mass of blue shirts, that's all I'm saying. It's really no big deal, cause the TEXANS are going to play the way they want to play regardless of what the fans wear.
 
(gritting teeth) Oh alright, I'll wear blue.

But as soon as they come out with Earth Day green jerseys or Hispanic Heritage Day fiesta jerseys, I'm drawing the line.
 
The Texans should have established a HOME jersey right off the bat. That way, fans always show up in the right colors!

As it is now, you are still wearing Texans 'home' colors if you show up in red, white, or blue jerseys. :wacko:

I agree. I think the problem was that originally they came out with those blue jerseys. And then early on in our short history, they were thinking they would have the roof open more often. And then they realized that this fried the people in the sunny seats. So they decided on doing white jerseys at home more often.

But then they came up with the roof policy, making the jersey color pretty much moot. Except Ike had other ideas, and now for what could be the hottest game of the year, they will be wearing all blue.

I like the blue jerseys the best as a standard jersey. I like the battle red as an alternate jersey. Not very fond of the white jersey much--it is just not as handsome to me.
