Terrance Cody, DT, Alabama

Cody is a 6'5" 385 lb Juco transfer to Alabama. This is his first year as a starter, and he has made a TFL in each of his first 3 games this season. So far he has 10 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 1 FF, and 1 QB hurry. He weight will always be a concern, but he has shown good pursuit ability though it is in incremental bursts. He has just unheard of size and strength.

Discuss.

Im really looking forward to the Alabama vs Georgia game. Cody is one of the reasons why. We really need to beef up our D-line.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Texans draft another DT in the later rounds again, just like they did last year with Okam.

Zgonina is getting old, and if I'm not mistaken TJ is a free agent after this season, so it is conceivable that they both could be gone after this season.

That would leave the Texans with Okam as the only player left on this year's roster at the NT position.

Of course, I'm holding out hope that the Texans are able to get another good DE to play opposite of Mario in the first 2 rounds, after signing Haynesworth as a free agent.

While I know that this is highly unlikely, I still like to dream.

Good luck convincing McNair to the throw out more money than Blank. Haynesworth is all but a lock to ATL IMO. I doubt Cody comes out this year though as he needs to prove able to handle the transition from a lower level and needs to prove he has the athletic ability and stamina to play at the SEC level, and then projects those traits to the NFL.

I believe McNair would spend the money if it was worth it. Show me a single player out there that would/could have the same impact as Haynesworth. Not only would we be stealing our biggest rivals best player, but we would be helping both of our best players (Mario & Ryans) become better palyers at he same time. I dont care if we give him the biggest contract a DT has ever recieved. The difference he could make to this TEAM would make it "worth it".

The only way that I would take worthless is if it was a one year at a time contract. The second he gets paid he will disappear. The man was nothing special until he was looking for a new contract.

I love him, but that young Center from Georgie showed some moxie against him. He would make Mario and maybe Amobi that much better. With the little development we see from our players I do not put much stock in Okam realizing his potential with this current staff. From what I saw of Cody, he is flat out talented, large and fleet of foot.

not true, he's always been good

Just going by talented DT's from our conference that would have been more than worth the money, I'll throw out John Henderson. He's now with the Bills, who seemingly have a "good" defense now after a futile decade it seemed.

I have little faith in our personel development as well. That is not a good thing.

However, Cody isn't going to put up the stats very often. In Saben's defense, he plays at the NT and does the job of the 3-4 NT and attacks the gap between C & OG (depends on alignment and/or shifts). When he shoots that gap with his size, it requires two blockers, thus helping to clear the "B" gap for the LB's to fill or other DL to stunt through.

Cody is not quick off the snap unfortunately. However, he does hold up very well at the LOS but he seem to have a difficult time as of now disengaging to make a play outside of his occupied zone. Occasionally, he will be in the backfield, but that isn't his game. He still needs to drop some weight.
