Former Browns and Jaguars wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi recently visited the Texans, per a league source.

Massaquoi was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and played high school football at Independence High School in Charlotte.[1] During his four years there his team did not lose a single game and won four straight state championships. He played with two college football notables, former University of Florida quarterback Chris Leak and former University of North Carolina wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Second-round pick back in '09 so he's a 4-year vet, but still very young @ 26.
Don't know anything about him, but he sounds interesting ?

More evidence of incompetent, lazy, local football news coverage. It is not as if the Texans tried to smuggle him in and keep it secret. Beat writers simply not even trying to do their job, again.

Who knows how many players the Texans have spoken to and looked at.. we simply don't find out unless a reporter from another NFL city mentions it.

The Texans are going to sign one or more WRs at the vet minimum. That WR is not going to be as good in this offense as Kevin Walter, who signed with the Titans for the vet minimum.

Usain St. Leo Bolt, OJ, CD (pron.: /ˈjuːseɪn/;[8] born 21 August 1986), is a Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as the fastest person ever.[9][10][11] He is the first man to hold both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records since fully automatic time measurements became mandatory in 1977. Along with his teammates, he also set the world record in the 4×100 metres relay. He is the reigning Olympic champion in these three events, the first man to win six Olympic gold medals in sprinting, and a five-time World champion. He was the first to achieve a "double double" by winning 100 m and 200 m titles at consecutive Olympics (2008 and 2012),[12] and topped this through the first "double triple" (including 4x100m relays).[13]
His 2009 record breaking margin for 100 m, from 9.69 seconds (his own previous world record) to 9.58, is the highest since the start of fully automatic time measurements.[14]

Why not sign this guy up ? @ 6'5"' & 210 lbs he's a pretty dang good target and I bet he'd give the term "seperation" a whole new meaning when running a fly-pattern vs a CB.

Which further proves my point

No thanks....

We cut Jacoby when we were WR needy...

I'll never understand that take.

We have picked up a bunch of cheap free agents that have come in and played ok to really well....from good and bad teams that deemed them no longer usefull...

If we can sign this guy for really cheap what would it hurt to give him a look?

It has been documented that Jacoby asked for his release

Anyways, I'll still pass....unless he comes in to shag balls

Usain Bolt made 20.3 million in 2012 without being hit by anyone. I don't see that changing lol.

The scary thing for other sprinters has got to be that in the 100 m Bolt didn't even have that great of a start. I remember watching that race and just being amazed at how he got faster and faster until he crossed the line...

It was like he could have kept climbing in speed like a car accelerating...

Massaquoi ran between 4'5-4'6 pre-draft.
3 concussions (that I know off), a knee and a hamstring injury later... Maybe we should avoid him ?!?

So....

You think if JJ Watt asks to be released they'll grant his wish?

No...They'll talk to him and do everything in their power to make baby happy again...

They released him because he wasn't that important to them. It's like a bad employee asking to be fired or a girlfriend you are thinking about leaving anyways wanting to break up...

Or your wife saying you don't have to go to something you didn't want to go to in the first place.

You're not going to fight too hard.

But I say all that to say that the Texans need to throw all the darts at the board that they can and if they get some cheap darts to throw, the better.

This just goes to show you the quality that's out there right now. I was high on him when he was at Georgia, but not really much ever since. I know he had one good year, but if he can't stay on the field what good is he to a team?

Nothing exciting here. Had his best season as a rookie and has regressed since then. So good that cleveland has been drafting Wr after WR during his time there.

I wouldn't base my evaluations on what the Browns or Jags are doing, or have done. The Browns have also been looking for a QB during Massaquoi's time there as well & we know the Jags have a QB issue they seem to be oblivious of.

Massaquoi's got talent. It is possible that he hasn't caught on, because of issues with those other teams. QB being a problem we can see, but there are other issues that we can't see; locker room, position coaches, head coaches.... we don't know.

I'd be happy if Massaquoi lands here. I'd feel better about trying to make something happen with him, than with a rookie (who generally takes a couple of years to develop), or hoping that LeStar, Martin, &/or Posey catches on.

Of course, with his history we should be able to get him cheap, cheap, cheap. Maybe a 1 year deal where he can show the league what he can do with a fairly decent QB, with a fairly decent OC.

I liked Massaquoi coming out of college. I thought he would do more than he has.

I don't have a problem if they bring him in and give him a shot even though his injury history concerns me.

I thought he was drafted by and has only played for the Browns?

He was drafted by the Browns & remained w/ them. The claim that he has been w/ 2 teams is incorrect. The Jags & Texans are reportedly interested in him.

He looked good coming out of college & to be honest it would be a bit shortsided to hold his production against him when he has dealt w/ a Brown's offense that had Colt McCoy & Weeden passing to him. Massaquoi's injury history is what concerns me. Put a better team around him & he could flourish as he has showed potential in the past, BUT he has to stay healthy & that hasn't been easy for him.

What is wrong with Brandon Lloyd? Why don't the Texans bring him in for a visit? The Texans need a veteran wr opposite Dre because no rookie can be counted on to start day 1. Wr usually takes a couple of years unless you get lucky.

I'll pass on this guy. I'm pretty sure there's better out there that we could get for the same price.

Attitude issues, or so some say.

Beggars being choosers in this thread though?

That should be an easy sell for Rick Smith. A one year deal here could do wonders for his career, if he can show that he can stay on the field.

The issue is your last thought. I'd bring him in as well if he checks out injury wise, but man I just don't know if you can count on him there. He's the type of player we're gonna have to sign so if they feel like he's the best then so be it.

Of course he has issues...

If he didn't have issues he wouldn't be a free agent right now trying to catch on with a team...

If the Texans can find a guy that's had consistent production, with little injury concern, with out any off the field issues or personality concerns that fits the offense that they can sign for cheap, then bring THAT guy in.

Kevin Walter! :chef:

These guys are way late.
I reported this back in January, and the thread was inexplicably moved to the NFL forum.

I knew he would be in for a visit in January.
Hopefully they will leave this thread in the right place this time.

Actually, what you said was:

Hoe much you think we would have to pay him as a free agent?
The Browns certainly do not want him back. He is still young and a change of scenery could do him well.
I think he is the type of guy that we are going to have to go after in free agency to try to improve our wide receiver group.

There's nothing about that suggesting you KNOW jack schit. And as the mod said at the time, he was not linked to the Texans at all at that time. Now he is. This really isn't that hard.

I had no idea any T & F athlete made that kind of money, but nobody else in the sport has probably made that much ? But the 100 is the glamour event in Track (along with the 1500 M), and he's the greatest ever, though I've seen some guys argue that Bob Haynes running today with todays improved equipment, training, and running surfaces could compete with Bolt. Of course we will never know.
I love T&F, and it's too bad for those of us who do to have to wait every 4 years to see a lot of TV and media coverage in general.

Well, thanks saved me a lot of trouble.

Starting to get upset that we haven't signed this guy yet.

(I'm already peeved we didn't get in on the Elvis Dumerville thing)

But we need to get this done & start working on getting a veteran OLB.

No biggie. He sucked anyway.

:kitten:

LOL; I was about to post how Massaquoi didn't have anybody ahead of him on the depth chart that are of known quality. Edwards played only 4 games that one year.
Massaquoi got supplanted by guys younger than him and drafted lower (Greg Little and Flash Gordon.)

Walter, on the other hand, played behind a stacked deck once he got drafted.
