Don't even draw up deep route combos on third and 15.
You can show a couple of receivers running the deep routes, but look for a 10 yard strike and let the receiver try to do the rest.
Draw it up so the other receivers clear a path to pick up 15+

Yes and I expected Cobb, Fells and Akins with a dash of the Johnsons to add yardage but you have to throw it to them. This roster can beat JagsThis was exactly what I've been saying.
Too many long developing plays (in the first three games) that require the Oline to hold and they're not good enough for that.
They needed more shorter route combos, quick hitting plays (which we saw more of in the last game).
Putting all receivers in the same area is an attempt to help Watson, who is naturally slow on his reads. Hopefully we will see more plays run from a standard set and less emphasis on spread formations. How much can be put in place in season?
The offensive concept seems awful this year, in seeing lots of clips of ALL the receivers in the same area of the field, ALL the receivers at the same depth etc. The run game is non existent. Watson doesn’t have the ability to take off.
Can Kelly put in a spread concept and get Watson some quick throws with the option to take off? Or is that too much to put in during the season.
this Is an audition for Kelly. If he can turn this offense around and it becomes legit he has a serious accomplishment added to his resume. that isn’t going to happen if he plays conservative ball. He’s gotta know his only chance of continuing forward as an OC Is for this offense to blow up. This is huge for his career.
hopefully he isn’t too dumb to realize this.
I don't dislike Tunsil, but he's not up to the premier contract that he was given.Still looks like BOB's running game. I have never seen an OL that is so soft around the goal line. They are not physical at all. Look at Tunsil on the ground. One freaking yard?
Better late than never. Here is something different. Texans actually are lined up in the I-formation and had a successful run. I will never understand why a team that loves to run the ball will not use this formation more.

The screw up wasn’t in paying Tunsil it was in allowing Duane Brown to get upset.Money control people what do you have to say about the highest paid LT?

The one thing I think we can ask of Tunsil is maybe firing off the ball a little quicker to reach his man before the cut block.I know it's not a good look for Tunsil, but the way his guy is staying low, Tunsil's doing about as good as can be there.
Pharaoh Brown is doing a good job there on the edge. Fells... I don't know what he can do. If he leaves the guy closest to him to get 52, then the guy he leaves probably makes the same play. I don't like how Kelemente gets turned around there & I don't like Martin getting rag dolled.
But if the play is designed for Johnson to hit that gap, is Tunsil supposed to stand that dude up? Looks like he's getting his guy out of the way & dropping to get out of Johnson's way.
Who is supposed to get 52?
Tunsil looked good on that one & DJ looked like he had some burst there. Good patient run, then bursts when the hole opens up.
But that clothes line... For a big guy, that shouldn't happen.
For such a big guy, he has always seemed a little dainty to me. More aggressive play calling might help, but ........ what is causing such a rapid regression of the offensive line ?
Back to back 30 point games.
Hmmmm...So all in all the offense has improved. The running game still has a ways to go.
30 points should be achievable next week as well.
Hmmmm...
In so much as they should have scored 40 against a depleted Minnesota defense, yeah. There's nothing here to suggest we could score 30 points on a team with a quality secondary & true pass rush.
Green Bay has a better pass rush than Jacksonville or Tennessee & they don't give up those big plays Watson feeds on.
But no, I'm not seeing improvement just worse opponents.
& there was a big difference between the first & 2nd half. I'd love to hear your thoughts on why that was.
Well saidThe screw up wasn’t in paying Tunsil it was in allowing Duane Brown to get upset.
If you draft a good player you always have some control in keeping the bottom line money down on the contract. You can always protect your rights to him and bring him to the table a year or 2 early, guarantee more $$ in return for a little below top rate. It works for everyone.
If you lose that great player and go chasing a replacement on FA, the cost becomes double the draft assets, and then you get the player on a short contract who can leverage those draft picks you’ll be wasting to take more money out of you.
Tunsil must have let Billy have a go on his gas mask, because since he got here he’s been playing a little below expectation.
The one crumb of comfort is that they all regress under Devlin so as long as the ownership do the right thing and clean house this offseason we will hopefully see improvement.
The Buccaneers just hung 38 points on them. That pass rush didn’t get after the old man either. So we can put up 30 + on them.
We are finally utilizing our receivers skill set. The tight ends are becoming a factor in this offense as well.
IMO they have improved, especially the play calling
Do you mind breaking this up into separate posts? And expound on them.I agree. I'm saying 30 points on the Packers is an achievable goal for this offense against the Packers. They do not have a quality secondary or a true pass rush. Their pass rush is like ours, productive at times, but inconsistent.
So next week won't be much of a gauge of how well the offense has improved any more than the Jags/Titans. So the only way, I think, we can say we have seen improvement is comparing the Jags/Titans games to the Vikings. Another defense we should have scored 30 on & if the chin didn't take over play calling, we may very well have scored 30 on them.
I think a lot of people have been complaining that we need to stop with all the long developing plays. That's our receiver's skill set. Fuller, Cooks, & Stills. So if we're finally using that skill set, it's only because we've been playing teams that can't get after the QB.
I'm not seeing it. Again, we're calling the same deep shots... I haven't looked at the Titans game a 2nd time, but I feel like we made an effort to work on the short game in the first half & in the 2nd we let the dogs run. Why?
True, the Titans have been giving up 5.5 yards on the ground, so you'd think there's an opportunity for us to get the run game going. But five games in & you know that is not your strong suit. We should have been attacking that secondary at every level from the first play of the game.
Then, when they're bleeding, pound them on the ground.
We came out the 2nd half with this goofy idea that we're going to establish the run.... why? That's BO'b. That's not an improvement.
He did break them up, into paragraphs.Do you mind breaking this up into separate posts? And expound on them.
You're getting at too many points and none seem clear to me.
I'm in elementary school. He did break them up, into paragraphs.
I'll keep this short as to not confuse you.
Not at all, which would you like to discuss first?Do you mind breaking this up into separate posts? And expound on them.
No. 2Not at all, which would you like to discuss first?
No. 2
I'm looking at the game now; one more series before the half.I'm asking for clarification on what is meant by, "Finally calling plays to suit our receivers skill set."
The one thing I think we can ask of Tunsil is maybe firing off the ball a little quicker to reach his man before the cut block.
His job is to knock the Dlineman off of the B gap, and that was not achieved.
Or maybe they aimed to have David hitting the C gap inside the double team. In that case, Tunsil didn't help either because he was in the way.
When you're that close in on the goal line, you don't get cute, you power it straight in from a tight I formation
......... or you go from a deep I formation
But in any event, Why does it have to be someone's fault? why can't it be the LB just made a great play?
Exactly!! I will never understand the logic behind using so much shotgun on the one yard line. This shotgun crap limits the number of options and really makes it easier for the defense. When you're that close in on the goal line, you don't get cute, you power it straight in from a tight I formation to where you don't even give the LB enough time to diagnose that play like he did........he/they were sitting so far back......... or you go from a deep I formation to where the RB has enough time to bounce it if there aren't any lanes on the inside......like DJ has done before on the goal line. That side handoff set up is just terrible...always has been & unless you have studs on the o-line....or an elusive QB..both of which Baltimore has which is works so well for them, it doesn't work that well.
But in any event, Why does it have to be someone's fault? why can't it be the LB just made a great play?
Bingo
I don't know about a great play... he was unaccounted for. & that's my biggest issue with that play on the goal line.
Help me understand this. You're David Johnson. Read your blocks. Where do you go?

Between Martin & Kelemete , they created a narrow lane .... tho the play was probably designed to go where he went behind Tunsil.
Done with the second half.I'm asking for clarification on what is meant by, "Finally calling plays to suit our receivers skill set."
A fire sale is in order. Get rid of all the receivers if they can get some middle to late round picks for them. Run on 1st, 2nd and 3rd downs the rest of this season if that’s what it takes to build a team that isn’t just treading water (at best) for the next 3 years. Now all of the receivers are on the trading block. Lol yeah let’s take the weapons away from the kid again. This is the epitome of dysfunction lol

Agree.
Maybe, looks like middle zone to me, where he's supposed to read & choose.
