Texans asked to interview...

Before we get started, there are some things I'd like for you to know. First, the Chicago Tribune reported that former Texans secondary coach Jon Hoke has been hired to coach the same position for the Bears.

Also, the Texans requested permission to interview Redskins assistant Jerry Gray for their defensive coordinator position and were denied. Under current rules, any assistant under contract can't interview for a job if he's under contract unless it's for a head-coaching job.

Looks like Gray may have been 1st choice, but that doesn't seemlikely to happen now.

I think the Texans tell McClain what they want him to hear. Now we (fans) make the assumption that there were (are) other interviewees for the DC position. Not bad from a PR standpoint.

Even if Bush ultimately gets the DC position, with the Texans making an effort to interview a whole batch of other guys first it's kinda a slap in the face, kinda an insult to Bush that he wasn't offered the job immediately. And then what does it do to the confidance and working relationship between Bush and his would be boss, Gary Kubiak ?

Why interview someone who is already under contract for you? Either way Kubiak is still going to be his boss. Whose to say they haven't already done so either?

Im guessing Bush was given an interview as well, theres just no reason to make a big deal over it because its in house.

not necessarily a slap in the face. another way of looking at this is going through the motions -- that is, giving the appearance of a process, but knowing all along who the guy you want is. after all, the org knows bush well. not much can be learned from an interview of him.

not saying, just saying.

I do not know about the first choice, but the Skins for whatever reason did not allow him to interview specifically with the Texans (not sure if there were other teams that had a caveat). Gray had a meeting with the Skins to address this yesterday. Whether he received their blessing or not, it appears Kubiak was waiting around to see what happened. Hopefully Gray gets his second interview with the Lions and finds success.
