After the Carolina Panthers running game shredded the Giants defensive line in last weeks preseason opener, a 24-21 loss, the Giants decided to find two of the biggest free-agent tackles still available Tui Alailefaleula, who is 6 feet 4 inches, and Manuel Wright, who is 6-5.
Alailefaleula and Wright, who are each officially listed at 345 pounds, could play as early as Sundays preseason game against Baltimore.
Until Thursday, the Giants brain trust had suggested that the tackles under the new defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, needed to be quick and probably smaller, like Barry Cofield (306 pounds) and Marcus Bell (325), the starters in the Carolina game.
Whether Alailefaleula or Wright are good enough to help the cause, as opposed to only being big guys, remains to be seen.
We want the defensive line to play better and were looking for some big bodies inside, Giants General Manager Jerry Reese said. Well see what they can do for 10 days and see where it goes.

Texans are of course going the other way as the DLine they start this year looks to average south of 290, and that's the heavier version which will be on the field primarily for a rushing defense.
