I can see it but I can also see Caserio going “Cal, you hired me to be the GM and lead this team. Now let me do what you hired me to do and I’ll handle this. You just smile for the cameras and enjoy the owners box.”
Caserio does not strike me as the type to go along with a boardroom type decision making. That’s not what he’s use to and that’s not what he’s seen the last 20 years work. If anything I see him as more that “You coach the team I give you” type of GM.
I mean before he was hired they really weren’t considering EB. Caserio comes in and gets the NFL to change the interview rules so he can interview him. Then according to some reports was EB wanted roster control, like what Reid has in KC, and that’s what sunk him. Then they hire Culley who was on no ones radar even the Texans before Caserio got there.
People need to keep in mind being the one in charge does not mean that you never listen or even follow other’s advice. At least not if you want to have any success as a leader. Even in NE BB has advisors. I think some were wanting Caserio to come in and fire everyone in the building, particularly Easterby, and are taking the fact he hasn’t done that as a sign he’s not in charge when in reality it could just be that maybe he hasn’t got to them yet or even that, brace yourselves, they haven’t done anything to get fired.
Even the idea of do it for the optics, when has NE ever given a rat’s furry butt about optics.
