$5.6M more than the $15.6M salary he'd earn if he plays.
It's a $21M dead money cap hit if he's traded before June 1st.
I don't want him either. He is a very good RB. However, he has played what now 4-5yrs? He takes big hits also. No thanks, if I get a 4th year RB I want to draft them. Not get them and get a season or 2 from. Nothing against CM, I like the guy just not the milage.
Here is Andre discussing what he experienced, observed and told Watson. You can forward to the 19:25 mark. Let the ripping begin.Andre Johnson doubled down on his criticism of the team and support of Watson. Can’t wait to see you knobs rip him.
That depends on how the roster is set, the coaching staff and how good of a system is in place. We have seen "new systems" be pretty much responsible for 5-6 wins on top of 4-6 just from talent. If the system is inovative enough it is like using 12-13 players.
Then I hope DeShuan enjoys his new team. Going to suck when he realizes they won’t let him pick GMs & HCs.Here is Andre discussing what he experienced, observed and told Watson. You can forward to the 19:25 mark. Let the ripping begin.
Maybe the owner of the new team will be smarter than Cal and not tell players they can have input into selecting the GM and HC. Just saying....Then I hope DeShuan enjoys his new team. Going to suck when he realizes they won’t let him pick GMs & HCs.
He only said this and that. No examples of the problems. And he said the problems were years ago. Here is Andre discussing what he experienced, observed and told Watson. You can forward to the 19:25 mark. Let the ripping begin.
Did you hear the end of the conversation? This is the new NFL. They have a voice. Don’t need to be asked.Maybe the owner of the new team will be smarter than Cal and not tell players they can have input into selecting the GM and HC. Just saying....
Yep if we want a bridge QB, I like Tu'a at less than $2 m our cost. He has to be better than AJ.. Getting X Howard and 1.3 plus 1.18 good start. I've advocated this long time and Monday 610 were suggesting it for Deshaun. You trade with either Miami or NY. You can get 3 picks in the 1st and 5 in the top 50 over the next 2 years. Not counting our own picks. After you have a solid RB, WR or 2, DBs and Edge plus some OL depth...you wait for next year and grab a QB. For 2 reasons: 1 Looks like a better QB draft next year. 2 the players from this year have a solid season of play under their belts. Meaning only the QB has to learn the system. And if they dumb it down the others are even better prepared.
Maybe the owner of the new team will be smarter than Cal...Just saying....
Play them against Miami and Jets.I'm reading that the Panthers are willing to be very serious buyers in what may become the Watson Sweepstakes.
They're talking RB, McCaffrey and (3) RD1 picks to start with. If the Panthers want to start with this package....how much more should they be expected to add?
Again, I might push the envelope a bit knowing their desire to make Watson a Panther.
Texans Get:
RB- Christian McCaffrey (Owed 12.5M & 12.9M for 2021 & 2022 / Texans have an out in 2023 @ 8.3M Dead Money hit / Owed 16.3M in 2023 & 2024 / Owed 12.4M in 2025)
DE- Yetur Gross-Matos (Drafted 2020- Notre Dame)
2021 RD1-08-008
2021 RD3-08-072
2022 RD1
2023 RD1
Panthers Get:
QB- Deshaun Watson (Full Contract)
WR- Brandon Cooks (Full Contract)
I’d be in on that. Who knows Tua could turn it around. He’s had one friggin season. Howard and two firsts this year and I’d ask for a 2nd also if we got close to closing it.Yep if we want a bridge QB, I like Tu'a at less than $2 m our cost. He has to be better than AJ.. 1.3 +1.18+2.35+2.50+ shutdown corner Xavien Howard. Give Miami some one else if needed. They might then sign Fuller as FA for DW pass to.I’d be in on that. Who knows Tua could turn it around. Cal said he had a couple of meetings with Watson where Watson expressed his concerns. Cal selected a GM with those concerns in mind. From Cal’s perspective Watson had input.Watson had no input...AGAIN?
I don't think anything about this stand-off is obvious...except the outcome. The Texans have repeatedly said Watson is their QB. There is not one team (ok, Kansas City) that can offer enough compensation to give the Texans for Watson. Even if there was a team able to offer fair compensation, the amount it would cost them would cripple their chances of being competitive any time soon.Cal said he had a couple of meetings with Watson where Watson expressed his concerns. Obviously Watson was expecting a call when he was in Cabo to green light the selection. Where he got that impression is still out for debate.
Likewise, Watson’s concerns were addressed when Caserio selected a HC. Or so they believe.
The Texans tried contacting Watson on both occasions. He didn’t answer the phone.
Watson is full of skit and is playing games.

Watson can sit at home for the next 80 years, and at 105 years old he'd still owe the Texans 3 years.
Got it, Watson has "input" confused with "I get to choose".Cal said he had a couple of meetings with Watson where Watson expressed his concerns. Cal selected a GM with those concerns in mind. From Cal’s perspective Watson had input.

or you can win a sb with a 2nd teir vet qb with a good team around him
if brad johnson & flacco could win a sb then... so could of
matt Schaub & Fitzpatrick could have won a sb but the didnt i guess they werent lucky enough
acctually if u have a elite defense and a jag at qb maybe u can ???

Can someone explain the cap ramifications is Watson is traded before the draft?
Looking at OTC, if the Texans trade Watson pre June 1, they'll be on the hook for a $5.660 million cap hit.
Others have tied Cooks to Watson. If Cooks is traded pre June 1, the Texans receive $12 million in cap relief which would more than offset the Watson dead cap hit.

Yes to Tua and as a continuing QB. No one has presented evidence that he cannot be at minimum an average starter..16 or so of 32. If we use the draft picks and the vets in the package I have voiced that we should get, we can strengthen this roster with offensive line and running back selections in draft. Howard across from Roby more than doubles our efficiency with our corners. John Reid should step up in his second season as many rookies do. Lonnie Johnson as a full-time safety starter Should be much better. What good is a bridge QB ? .... Win just enough games to keep you from getting a good draft pick ? .... No thanks , I'd rather run with McCarron.
No to Tua.

TTag's hip should be even better with additional time he has had to heal. Let's not forget that is an anchor point for quarterback trying to setup and throw. Also hopefully having a training season with better team ability to handle covid-19 he will progress. Let us not forget that 2020 was his rookie season.
Earlier this year I posted a comparison between Watson and Tua's rookie years and they were not that dissimilar including history of injuries for each player. Now we understand how DeShaun recovered and again I have see no reason that Tag cannot do the same. All reports that I have seen minimum information indicates that he is ready to go forward.
Tue plus 1.3 &1.18 are much better than 1.2 Wilson whom is going to be great and 1.23 Jets trade.

Don't you see that you're comparing Wilson to Tua? You have to include what you get in addition with Tua. For example if we take the Jets 1.2 Zach Wilson + 1.23 say wide receiver Terrace Marshall. That is a very good pair of players.Disagree, I like the fresh rookie with only the injuries he got in college. Other advantage of a rookie is that there is no NFL film on him and your coach can coach him the way he wants without conflict from another NFL level coach.
Also having someone like a Wilson, who maybe your franchise QB, makes keeping Tunsil worth it because now you are justified in that pro bowl LT.
Really it depends on if a person thinks Tua has more to show or if this is his level. On one hand they benched him for Fitzmagic, on the other hand Miami hasn’t known how to judge QBs since Marino.
His stats his rookie NFL season you do not think would be improved on if he is healthy as information indicates? We'll have to agree to disagree .... I don't think Tua is more than a backup at the NFL level and not a particularly good one at that.
A Watson Trade before the draft (Pre-June 1) would mean an instant cap hit of $21.6m which is the remainder of the prorated signing bonus money already paid by the Texans to Watson.
A Post June 1 trade would mean a $5.4m cap hit for this year (2021) and a $16.2m cap hit for 2022. Again , the total remaining of the prorated signing bonus money the Texans have already given to Watson.

If he was traded, why wouldn't we get most of the signing bonus back and the new team have to pay him the bonus? If that's not the way it works, I'd let him know if he wants to be moved that's the way it's going to work. Give us our signing bonus back (since you didn't honor your contract with us) and take the rest of your contract and work out what you can to replace the signing bonus with the new team. Why should we pay it if he wants to be traded and we trade him. If we don't benefit from the contract he signed, he shouldn't get the bonus from us.A Watson Trade before the draft (Pre-June 1) would mean an instant cap hit of $21.6m which is the remainder of the prorated signing bonus money already paid by the Texans to Watson.

Depends on what comes with those picks. You’re getting Tua with those picks then you’re getting someone else with 2 overall? you should there isn’t that much difference in 2 or 3. Maybe Quinn Williams with Wilson? Yeah I’m taking Wilson All day.Don't you see that you're comparing Wilson to Tua? You have to include what you get in addition with Tua. My way you get 1.3 WR. Heisman Devonta Smith or LT. Sensation Penei Sewell (whom allows you to trade Tunsil getting picks and lots of cap space). 1.18 brings you another starter. And you have Tag as your QB.
Now this post is my understanding that you are suggesting a trade to the Jets for 1.2 to shore up getting Zack Wilson?
That's the way I read it...
How could they possible afford to trade him if they wanted to? unless he was willing to restructure?
You'd have to cut some guys and free up money to eat the cap hit.
You'd have a terrible roster for the coming year as a result.
Probably why Caserio has resisted the notion of trading him as its essentially admitting you'll be terrible for the foreseeable future. No QB and an expansion team quality roster.

Texans must focus on making every spot but QB better while this team goes through its 2 year growing pains. McCarron, QB2 UFA, and a late Development QB3 can bridge the gap before making the move for a QB1. Build a team so a veteran QB1 or a rookie drafted QB1 will have the best chance for success.
To clarify. You like Wilson and 23 over 1.3 + 1.18 and Tua? I am not attacking you as I have had that thought occasionally. I do think Zach Wilson is going to be that good but I also think tua will be more than just a good starter. I also think Miami willing to give both round twos to beat Jets one in that round which should be considered.Depends on what comes with those picks. Technically this signing bonus is guaranteed money that theoretically is already in his pocket Although I understand most large bonuses are broken down in payments to assist the NFL owner. My understanding is this is usually a benefit to the player who does not want to be cut or traded and this process makes it more difficult for the team to do so.If he was traded, why wouldn't we get most of the signing bonus back and the new team have to pay him the bonus? Well to be fair, cutting players such as the two running bag Johnsons and some of the others may not make us a worse roster LOL.You'd have to cut some guys and free up money to eat the cap hit.

Yes I am such a vacillator. I also evaluate Zach Wilson as high as you do so it is hard for me to want to go any other direction but I am still leaning towards a Miami Trade as of now. With Zach Wilson I still see us having a top 3-5 pick in 2022 where we could get QB. But as you say if your guy is there get him when you know you can. Of course for me the best scenario would be the trade with the dolphins that I have suggested and Wilson still being available. I would use 2A to allow Wilson to develop and then trade 2A After this season.Really depends upon when you can get that QB you think can lead you to a championship.
I really like Zach Wilson .... I think he is the best QB since Mahomes and has a lot of the same qualities. If I could get him right now , I'd do it and use the rest of what I got in return for Watson to put a great offense around him (fix the defense next year).
If you don't think you can get that kinda QB .... then you go about team building.

But what if it's the player that wants to be moved, why then is the team obligated to pay the entire signing bonus? Or the player not obligated to return the signing bonus?Technically this signing bonus is guaranteed money that theoretically is already in his pocket Although I understand most large bonuses are broken down in payments to assist the NFL owner.
