Seth Payne tears another ACL

i really REALLY hope this isnt the end for payne. They guy's all heart on the field and my favorite player on defense. good luck seth, get better soon.

I really hope this game wasn't the last time we'll get to see Payne in a Texans uniform. No doubt losing him will be a big hit on the defense this season, but I really don't like the thought of watching a Texans game next season & not seeing number 91 out there. Best of luck to Seth.

Injuries stink! Sorry to hear Seth is gone for the year. He always played up to the Jags. Is Weigert also out? The Jags lost Mike Peterson/Reggie Hayward/ Greg Jones for the season, the injury bug can really hurt.

I had Jones on some FF teams....

I think this is a blessing in disguise. Now we can move Weaver inside and have an actual pass rushing DE in Peek. Payne is a good lineman but we need to plan for the future and let our future DL mesh as a unit.

I agree. Payne has been nothing but a pain with all the injuiries. Sure they are unfair and don't really show how good a player is but unfortunately this guy hasn't been the same since our inception. It is time to move on.

The only thing that sucks about this is Thomas Johnson will be playing more which means more personal fouls for no reason.

lol, this isn't a blessing in any form. Weaver is a 3-4 end and he gets overpowered inside. Peek is weak vs the run too. Payne was the best interior linemen on d.....this makes a bad run d worse. No blessings here.

Absolutely. Be prepared to see Taylor & Drew running wild on our defense. At least I've got Maurice Jones - Drew on my fantasy team.

Are you guys serious? Losing Payne is terrible. We don't want Weaver on the inside, and we don't want Peek on the field every play. Our best lineup was Weaver and Williams on the ends, and TJ (could definately be upgraded but has played better) and Payne inside IMO. Peek was/is a pass rush specialist that cannot stay on the field due to injuries. Folks, Payne going down sucks plain and simple.

As a few have already noted, Weaver played inside a lot early on into the year on the premise of a lighter, faster D-line, and struggled against the run. Payne is easily our most reliable and significant DT. Losing him is a bad blow and adding injury to insult.

Our biggest problem on the line is that Weaver and Williams are both 3-4 tweener ends and neither have top caliber 4-3 edge skills.

Vinny, do you believe we should start playing 3-4 sets? We seem to have a lot of 3-4 players left over from the previous administration. Do you think it wopuld be beenficial to mix in a little 3-4 as we progress towards a tradtional 4-3?

Losing Payne hurts and is another reason we should have kept the RoBear Smith.

I think we are better suited for it but I don't think our coordinator is all that...so I'm not expecting much variation.

Robaire Smith was a colossal waste of money....still glad to see that dog go hunt somewhere else.

With the worst run D in the NFL, I can't see how changing up the line could be a bad thing. Sorry for Payne, as a person, but as a player he was never anything special IMO. Our coaches are paid to get top performance from the players, let's let them earn that paycheck, lord knows they haven't done it yet.

it wouldnt surprise me if he sticks a fork in it and calls it a career. 2 ACL tears in the last 4 yrs along with numerous surgeries....i dont think he will ever return to play at a level that can help this team. seth is a great guy and a great player. he will truly be missed.

on the bright side, kailee wong and demarcus faggins are returning next week and will be in the lineup. wong will lineup at strong side OLB.

the problem is that Payne wasn't the problem when it came to stopping the run...he was one of the solutions since he is the toughest lineman to block inside. We have issues with the other 9-10 guys on this d...not Payne.
