PUP? Joppru?

So its the first time players on the PUP list can come off from what i know thats Symons and Joppru.

Obviously Symons will be doing alot of nothing probably go to the practice squad or who knows.

Joppru on the other hand could be a valuable asset to our offense, I'd like to see us go into a 3 TE, 1HB 1 WR Formation for a play or two, would provide some good matchups with DD,AJ, joppru miller and bruener all out running routes.

That being said, does anyone have any information on him? Is he ready to come of the list? or is he gonna stay sheleved longer?

Matt Murphy has done a decent job. I say Joppru stays on the list but his draft status might say otherwise compared to Matt Murphy just being a sign on.

Capers has a nice little decision to make there.

There is a reaon why guys employ a 2 te set. It isn't any trickery plays, it is smash mouth football. Playing a 3 te, 1hb, 1 Wr formation is asking for certain death. What you did was put every guy on defense at the line of scrimmage, cept maybe Mathis. You aren't gonna be able to throw a pass, as there will be someone stepping in front of the pass. You better hope he doesn't drop back more then 2 steps, the def will be in the back field if no one is blocking them.

ok well bad example, but i'd like to see Joppru on the field in some regards. see what we got.
Isn't he a bit quicker TE? I am trying to remember him, but can't. What might be cool, to see him lined up, along with Miller, in a stacked type situation, and play their size (weight and strength)against the Db's.

I know I am a Jag homer, but it may work.

I'd really like Joppru to get on the field and play in some games for us this
year, but I have a bad feeling that it's just wishful thinking on my part. I
mean, I wonder how long its been since he got out there and hit somebody,
and got hit himself. That's what they go thru summer camp for, and Joppru
missed all that along with all the practice and game time the last couple months , he's just missed everything except doing some non-contact work.
I have a bad feeling Bennie may have to start all over again from scatch next year - for the third time.

Joppru is (was?) a combo TE, for lack of a better term. Big enough to block inline, quick enough to beat LBs in coverage. The formation you described with Joppru & Miller is exactly what the Texans practiced early in the '03 camp prior to Bennie's initial groin injury.

I still think a guy with Joppru's skills is the missing link in this offense. Better blocker than Miller, can uncover better than Bruener, can be a great option on 3rd & short playaction. I know Casserly thinks that Joppru will see the field this season, I guess we'll find out if that's true.

Bennie's No Boselli According to GM Charley Casserly on his weekly radio show on SportsRadio 610AM in Houston, Bennie Joppru is possibly rejoining the team after Sunday's game against the Titans. The second-year TE had been placed on the team's physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp, preventing him from practicing with the team until after week six. As of Monday, Joppru, who has been doing some running in lieu of practice, will be able to rejoin the team. (October 15, 2004)

Sure hope he is no Boselli.. the fact that he reinjured himself so quickly makes me wary.

Is this going to be a nagging injury that never goes away? that can be as bad as a career ending one.. from the Texans perspective.

Grid gotta hand it to you for laying the lumber over on the jvill board :thumbup

getting back to Joppru, lets just wish him well & hope HE CAN PLAY AGAIN.
the Texans have the best medical staff in the NFL working closely with varied specialists they can work miracles. Seth Payne & Tony Hollings are recovering nicely Bennie Joppru chances for a full recovery should be good.

Good article. Hopefully we'll see him on the field in December. Good news about Ramon Walker too. He's much farther along than I thought he was.
