NFL Random Thought of the Day

It's an additional bad look for the Patriots when Edelman gets arrested in Beverly Hills after getting drunk and damaging an expensive Mercedes jumping up on it. That should have done his soon-to-be operated knee a great deal of good.

I found the story at numerous sites, but nothing about him being drunk (he probably was) just that he was charged with vandalism

Antonio Brown has no team, and for now he has no agent.

Per an NFLPA source, agent Drew Rosenhaus has informed Brown in writing that the relationship between the two men has been terminated, conditionally. The letter, per the source, explains that Rosenhaus will rescind the termination if Brown secures appropriate counseling within the next five days.

No termination of a client-agent relationship becomes official under NFLPA rules until a five-day waiting period has elapsed after the letter initiating the separation.

The goal, according to the source, is to persuade Brown to get the help he needs. If he doesn’t, he’ll have to find a new agent — and perhaps that agent will be able to help him through a stream of issues and challenges culminating in the recent incident with the mother of one or more of his children and Hollywood, Florida police.

Some have wondered over the past year whether Brown has gotten bad advice. The more accurate characterization may be that he has refused to heed the advice he has received. Rosenhaus, by all appearances, hopes that the termination letter will get Brown to obtain the assistance needed to result in him changing his ways, regarding topics like his interactions with family members and his use of social media.

Odell Beckham had core muscle surgery
Posted by Josh Alper on January 21, 2020, 11:19 AM EST

Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham dealt with a core muscle injury for the entire 2019 season and there was word late in the year that he would have surgery in the offseason to repair it once and for all.

Beckham had that surgery on Tuesday. The Browns announced that he saw Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia for the operation and that it was deemed successful. Beckham is expected to fully recover in time for next season.

The handling of Beckham’s injury created one of many messy situations for the Browns in 2019 when quarterback Baker Mayfield said that the injury “wasn’t handled right in our training room.” Mayfield suggested that Beckham should have had surgery after being injured in training camp rather than play hurt all year and then tried to walk back the comments as not being critical of the Browns’ medical team.

PFT:
After Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell told the team website that a deal for free agent pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue should come together “hopefully relatively easily,” Ngakoue had his own thoughts.Maybe.

Now, perhaps Ngakoue was talking about something else altogether.

But it’s also not hard to interpret that as a sign he does not share Caldwell’s optimistic view of the pending negotiations, and time frame for them.

Ngakoue had eight sacks last year and 37.0 in four seasons, and would likely be a sought-after free agent if the Jaguars don’t take him out of the market with a sizeable deal or the franchise tag.

Dak Prescott has unique leverage over the Cowboys
Posted by Mike Florio on January 22, 2020, 10:42 AM EST

At a time when there’s plenty of talk about players betting on themselves, Dak Prescott made one of the biggest self-bets in NFL history. And he has won.

Prescott refused any and all long-term offers from the Cowboys, embracing the risk of injury and ineffectiveness in his contract year. Now that his contract year has ended, he’s on the brink of a long-term deal from the Cowboys, one that will be fueled by leverage that no player has had since Joe Flacco in 2013.

Seven years ago, Flacco parlayed his preseason refusal to sign a multi-year deal into a Super Bowl MVP and a long-term contract struck as the Ravens faced the dilemma of applying the non-exclusive franchise tag or the exclusive tag. That’s the posture Prescott and the Cowboys currently occupy, with Dallas having to choose between the non-exclusive tag (at roughly $26 million per year) and the exclusive tag (currently projected to be $33.4 million). The former allows a team to sign Prescott to an offer sheet that the Cowboys can’t/won’t match, surrendering a pair of first-round draft picks as compensation. The latter keeps Prescott of the market, but it unlocks a potential year-to-year approach that sees the tag spike to $40.08 million in 2021 and $57.715 million in 2022.

Antonio Brown involved in alleged battery incident at his home, police say
Chris Bumbaca
USA TODAY

An alleged battery incident involving Antonio Brown and his trainer took place at the former NFL wide receiver's home Tuesday, the Hollywood (Florida) Police Department said.

Public information officer Christian Lata told reporters Tuesday police responded to an emergency call from Brown's residence, where an individual claimed he was the victim of battery. The alleged victim was a moving truck driver, Lata confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.

Brown's trainer, Glen Holt — who police said described himself as an "associate" of Brown — was taken into custody and charged with "burglary with batter." Lata said he was arraigned at Broward County Jail on Tuesday.

Brown is also a suspect in the incident, but police are trying to uncover more details. Multiple attempts by police to contact him were unsuccessful as of Wednesday morning, and Lata said he "locked himself in his house." Police reiterated the investigation is ongoing and said more information will be available later Wednesday.

Last week, Brown went live on Instagram and berated police officers, who were at his house responding to a separate domestic dispute involving the mother of his children.

Just recently out in Vegas and the Raiders new stadium appears to be coming along nicely. It's located just behind the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

Should've been located about 20 miles outside Universal City (San Antonio), Texas and been known as the San Antonio Raiders. They would've not only had the SA fans but you can bet Austin and everything in between would've been supporting them as well.

A ducking shame that Texas is only big enough for 2 NFL franchises while LA is big enough for 2 to share a dam stadium while supporting 2 other franchises. SA is the 5th or 6th largest US city and the NFL under some kind of impression that the city couldn't support a NFL franchise......that's BS!!!! Hail, they could support a professional hockey team if the NHL was willing to put one there.

If the Raiders would have moved to SA, I would probably make the Texans my second team and support SA first. lol

How did the Flacco deal work out for the Ravens? I expect the same for Dak and the Cowboys.

Arrest warrant issued for Antonio Brown
January 22, 2020, 8:31 PM EST

He can hide, but he can’t run.

An arrest warrant has been issued for free-agent receiver Antonio Brown, via Andy Slater of FOX Sports 640. Brown faces charges of burglary with battery.

The warrant arises from a Tuesday incident during which Brown refused to pay the driver of a moving truck for delivering property from California. Brown allegedly threw a rock at the truck as the driver left with the property. Then, when the moving company informed the driver to return after Brown supposedly agreed to pay the $4,000 plus an extra $860, Brown allegedly refused to pay more than $4,000, allegedly battered the driver, and allegedly removed his property from the truck after Glenn Holt, who already has been arrested, took the keys and opened the doors to the truck.

Slater adds that “there is no bond,” but that’s presumably a decision that would be made by a judge after Brown is arrested and processed.

Holy crap, really? I thought it was going to be kind off the beaten path in Vegas. Damn, that's walking distance. Can't imagine the price gouging of hotels on the strip when the Raiders are at home.

Why I don't go to Vegas anymore. Not worth the price gouging it has become. I remember at one point in the 90's was how you could get such a great environment for such a great affordable price, because they wanted to force you to gamble and make that a strong part of your time. Rooms were cheap and so were places to eat. Overtime, it just became to much of an amusement park city commercially, and the prices spiked so high. So glad I got to experience Vegas a lot in my early 20's and even in my late teens to where I no longer needed the experience by the time I was around 30 years old. So much more you can do with your money in other countries.

Lawyer claims Antonio Brown, who faces potential life imprisonment, was “overcharged”

Antonio Brown will soon leave police custody, on $110,000 bond. The charges he currently faces could put him behind bars for a long time, however.

Via Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com, Brown faces among other things a charge of felony burglary with battery. It carries a potential sentence of life in prison.

They overcharged him,” attorney Lorne Berkeley said, according to Wolfe. “Once a thorough investigation is done, we believe the charges filed will most likely be very different than they are right now.”

Brown’s other lawyer, Eric Schwartzreich, disputed the notion that Brown is suffering from a mental-health condition.

“I don’t think there’s any mental health issues with him
,” Schwartzreich said. “Antonio Brown’s life right now is a reality show. He is misinterpreted and misunderstood. He’s not guilty of these charges. He did not commit a felony battery. In this case, when all the facts come out, you will see he will be vindicated and he will be found not guilty.”
On the issue of mental health, prosecutors pointed to concerns recently articulated by his former agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and the mother of three of Brown’s children, Chelsie Kyriss. Brown has been ordered to undergo a mental-health evaluation.

The charges arise from Brown’s alleged interactions with the driver of a moving truck who was trying to deliver Brown’s California belongings. Brown allegedly threw rocks at the truck, battered the driver, and removed the property from the truck after a dispute over payment.

“He turned himself in,” Schwartzreich said. “He did the right thing. He surrendered. He’s concerned for the charges and rightfully so. He’s ready for this fight. He’s ready for his vindication. It’s going to take some time, but we are going to put the train on that track.”

Apart from Brown’s legal predicament, the latest incident further complicates his eligibility to play in the NFL, since it constitutes a separate potential basis for discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy. That’s likely the least of his concerns, for now.

What kind of garbage headline is that though? Potentially facing "life" in prison?

The writer should be punched in the face for that kind of sensationalism.

I've watched a little bit and guys I've focused on are mainly on the defensive side of the ball. DL Gallimore/Strowbridge/Greenard/Agim are really good prospects. Strowbridge probably will be there in the 2nd rd and he would be my pick. This guys a little known stud that has his best football ahead of him. He played DT out of necessity for the Tar Heels last yr. He's got great potential as a pass rusher.

Josh Uche is a LB I like alot he's short but he's got good pass rush ability and is good in coverage. He should be there in the 3rd/4th rd range.

A Safety/Nickle LB I really like is Kyle Dugger he's from a small school but is very good in coverage and can even play some slot CB as well as nickle LB. He's built like a rock at 6'1 220. He's the guy the Texans need out of this draft to cover Kelce type TE's. Guys a stud and if he's there in rd 3 he would be my pick.

Best CB I saw was Darnay Holmes. He's got world class speed and is very competitive. He needs to improve his tackling but all of the tools are there.

I also predict that if he can stay healthy (I've got doubts) Herbert is going to be a really good QB.
