Personally, it is just right on weekend. Could shorten 1st day to 10 min.
there's some discussion of moving the first round of the draft to Friday during primetime. kinda like the NBA draft. that would be huge. it'd change the way the second round is drafted, too, as teams would have a lot more time to look over things.

I wanted to write a letter to Goodell requesting that the draft be moved around the country every year, but he and anyone else in the NFL office are not easily contacted by email.
I believe a rotating basis it would generate even more interest in the host city...perhaps even making it a bigger event than it already is.
Maybe the team selecting first could host? Perhaps a lottery type selection between East Coast, West Coast, and Gulf Coast teams?
I'm sick of seeing Jets and Giants fans having the most fun on draft day...spread the love NFL!
They might make better decision if they didn't have those five extra minutes.its 5 damn minutes. Its not like the teams have had all year to evaluate and assess talents, and you know, create a draft board or something.
Is 5 more minutes of thinking about it going to make all that much difference?

I wonder how long it will be before this becomes a pay per view event.

With a 6-hour first round this year, I can't imagine what the start and stop times would be for a First Round Friday - especially with 4 time zones involved.
Start at 7pm EDT, and it's 4pm on the west coast. And it still may not be over until 1am.
Start at 10pm EDT, and it's a more convenience 7pm on the west coast but then the first round may not end until 4am?
I don't see how it works logistically.

The problem with all these "Prime-Time" scenarios is allowing TRADES! So, unless the NFL doesn't extend any extra time to the team that acquires the pick during a draft-day trade, you would likely still be well into the wee hours of the next day.
Many in this thread are basing their assumptions on "X" amount of time multiplied by 32 picks.I don't understand your point.

(Ex. 32 picks @ 15min = 8 hrs.)
What that doesn't factor in is the clock "reset" when the pick is traded to another team.
(Ex. Pick #14 is traded at 13:00 to another team, who now has a "fresh" 15 min. to make their selection. Total time for that one pick can NOW = 28min.)

I might. It is a damn Friday night. Who goes to bed before 1 A.M. on Friday night?
If you think about it, by moving the first round to friday night, they'd probably maximize their viewers...
On Friday nights a lot of people go out and may not get home until 1,2 or 3 in the morning if they're not party animals....4 or 5 if they are.....
That's pretty much why I can't ever make a draft party...As soon as I'm waking up, the draft is on...Not that it's not a nice feeling to see your team coming up on the clock as you roll out of bed, but I think people may have more parties and gatherings centered around the draft it it began at a time like 7 or 8 pm....
Either way, whether it starts at 7 am and ends at 1 pm or whether it starts at 7 pm and ends at 1 am someone is going to be sleep when they're pick rolls around...I just think that it'd make it more of an event if it were late in the evenings..
He!!, we're always picking top 15 so it shouldn't matter to us anyways....right ?
I'm not going to read all the post, so I apologize...
but I tend to agree with the first few.
I think it would be a pretty good idea. I think primetime friday night, with maybe 10 minutes for each selection like previously mentioned. It would be pretty exciting from a fans standpoint with it being at night, since the first round is the most exciting anyways.
That would indeed change the 2nd round...just like having all that time thinking about the 4th round and day two. Since 2nd round guys are still 'starter' material guys and some should have been 1st round selections, having the time before it would be great for teams. I feel we would see some more trades into the first couple picks because they would have more time to see exactly who's available and time to 'negotiate' and work something out...or at least contigent upon.

I thought the clock did not reset? It was 15 min no matter what.
