If we end up with the #1 pick (odds are likely), do you think NC goes with best player W. Anderson or a QB? Do you think it’s a make or break decision for NC as a GM?

I’m surprised you’re saying he’s having an off season so far. In 5 games he’s had 5 sacks and an interception. Plus teams know are aware of him and try to double team him. Will Anderson having an 'off' season so far but so are others such as Quentin Johnson TCU WR.
You guys did not see the quote marks ' ' around 'off-season'? Only in comparison to last year. Also I posted before the season started that I would not be surprised if he was held to a much lower Sack statistic.I’m surprised you’re saying he’s having an off season so far. In 5 games he’s had 5 sacks and an interception. Plus teams know are aware of him and try to double team him.
Hopefully he's back in the groove. He still has seven games to Crank It Up.Quentin Johnson had a very nice game today.
SMHI think responses will be on what we want rather than what caserio does. He did ok in 2022 rotating drafting sides of line and could easily do so again. This is a deeper draft than some think so Caserio trades down from 1 unless he wants Stroud and so does a team in 2-5 spots. Much depends on the teams between Houston and #5 and what those GMs determine their priority need is. Sources are all over the place on mock boards on what teams need more so than other recent drafts.
I think NC does another offense then defense rotation but not sure which goes first. I could make a mock with first three selections all offense or all defense. Stroud continues to impress but Mulugheta is a sword of Damocles that I cannot see Janice approving that risk.

Anderson is Derrick Thomas.I’m surprised you’re saying he’s having an off season so far. In 5 games he’s had 5 sacks and an interception. Plus teams know are aware of him and try to double team him.
I don't envy the Texans' FO should they end up with the top pick this year.
I think Anderson is the best talent in the draft... but he's best suited as a 3-4 OLB. Playing him at 4-3 DE doesn't play to his strengths (though I think he'd certainly be fine there).
I think Carter is the second best talent in the draft... but selecting a DT at #1 won't be received well.
I think Stroud is the best QB of the bunch- and I think he will be at least a good NFL QB for a long time- but I don't know that he's going to be a top-5 QB. Now, you can win without a top-5 QB, but I think Anderson and Carter are top-5 guys at their positions. Is that trade off worth it? I don't know.
However, passing on a QB has risks. The Texans are not going to be picking at the very top of the draft in 2024. Top 10, probably, but there is enough talent on the roster, especially when you had the picks in 2023, that it will likely push the Texans down the draft enough to miss out on a better QB prospect than Stroud in 2024. Do you want to take that gamble? Do you hope that you have the trade assets to move up to select that guy in 2024 (if he even exists?). I honestly don't know, and as a GM, I would be losing a lot of sleep trying to figure this one out.
How would the Texans escape the bottom 10 without Mills producing having some good games mixed in there. Positions 11-15 might be 5-6 win season. 16-20 might be 7-9 wins. If the 2023 draft and moves illicit those results……might be good to stick with Mills in 2024 and hope that draft puts the final touches on the rebuild while making the playoffs a strong reality.

And holding two 1sts in 2024 I would take that gamble. I like Williams/Ewers/Maye better than any QB in this draft. I'm betting one of them falls to me at say #8. If not I would trade the two 2024 1sts and a 2024 3rd along with a 2025 1st to go up and get one of these guys. What did the 49ers have to give up to go from #13 to #3 would be my guideline on the trade parameters.
Great postIf you aren't sold on any of the QBs in this draft, this makes sense. No use in drafting a QB you don't like/believe in just because you have a need at QB. The risk gets bigger if, like in my post, you like one of the QBs, but you aren't enamored with him.
As it is now, the Texans are picking what, 6th? That probably has them missing out on Stroud, which makes draft night a lot easier (if I was the GM, of course)- should the Texans be at the 6 spot come April, I'm crossing my fingers and toes Carter is available.
Then, yeah, you are probably going to end up paying a pretty cost to move up the board to draft whatever QB you like at the top of the 2024 board. If there even is one- another year of play, another year for teams to learn how to play against these guys, another year under the microscope... I bet a lot of these guys (the 2024 class) look a lot less interesting in October 2023 than they do now, as everyone will be excited about the 2025 class. It's just the way it goes.
Carter would definitely help solidify the line and help our run defense. We’ve allowed so many yards on the ground through week 5.If you aren't sold on any of the QBs in this draft, this makes sense. I got a question, why couldn't Carsterio get an interview with Daboll even though he had history.Remember when most, including me thought Danny Dimes sucked and Danny Dimes is doing this with Texans level skill position players. Coaching matters. Building a stout OL/DL also matters.
That's any draftOther than watching the games, I haven't been paying much attention this year. I do catch up on comments here on TT, on occasion. I find it oddly interesting that, discounting ZW because he's only played in two games, Mills leads in PFF rating. He's #2 behind Lawrence in Passer Rating. But then with QBR he's at the bottom of the list.
Oddly interesting, to find last year's premium QB class to be performing so poorly. Be careful what you wish for in next year's draft.

I don't think Daboll wanted to leave the northeastI got a question, why couldn't Carsterio get an interview with Daboll even though he had history.
He had history and couldn't even get a interview. Giants were in bad shape, still in bad shape honestly, but as an organization at the top, they're solid. Still don't have a qb and the rb is finally healthy in a contract yearWhy would Daboll come here to this dumpster fire compared to NYG where it’s just a dumpster?
I keep seeing the posts that “why didn’t we get this coach or this coach”?
Coaches are in win now mode and this team isn’t winning now.
Very few coaches would want to coach here. Only ones getting wanting the job are the ones that this is the first time ever they would be HC in the NFL and the one’s trying to revitalize their dead NFL HC career.
After 2023 season this team will look very appealing.
I seem to recall talk that his wife/kid had a Dr in NY or his wife was from NY and they didn't want to leave the areaHe had history and couldn't even get a interview. Ted Washington was one of the most athletic men of his size to walk the the earth. Washington could drop step and dunk a basketball effortless. Sam is my 2nd cousin, his dad was on those old sorry Pats squad. I get your point. McCoy was one of the best run stoppers in the nfl and he was 300 lbs tops. Plus he could get inside pressure. That's more in the mold of what Lovie is looking for.
There is something to that. At some point, he's going to have to win games
That's any draft
I believe it will be a Lovie decision just like 2022 draft was a Lovie and his coaches decisions, and Anderson will be the pick. The run defense is earning it.If we end up with the #1 pick (odds are likely), do you think NC goes with best player W. Anderson or a QB? Do you think it’s a make or break decision for NC as a GM?
Why are you suggesting Anderson from Georgia? Is it because of a need or he's the highest rated player? What you're posting can go for any player. That's why you dont just draft a QB because you need a QB.
Again, at some point, as usual, you're not going to be able to insulate the qb and he's going to have to win the game by making timely plays. Could he all of a sudden start doing it? I guess, but there are going to be those situations and that's where the qb is worth his salt. Its not about numbers, but 3 td and 2 int's are what it is. His team has him propped up right now. Maybe it can roll all season, I doubt it, but we will see.You do realize that taking care of the ball is usually more important than putting up big numbers. That and coming up big in clutch situations. Which Jones has done a good job of, sometimes with his legs.
Brain fartWhy are you suggesting Anderson from Georgia? Is it because of a need or he's the highest rated player? What you're posting can go for any player.
I like CarterBrain fart
Jalen Carter, he's better than Davis. Reminds me of a bigger Tommie Harris.

I was on the Anderson bandwagon initially as well. The more I study him....I realize he's not a fit for Lovie's defense. Texans need DT's and LB'ers who can fundamentally wrap and tackle with some authority.
I believe the defense is closer to being relative, so I wouldn't hesitate to put a decent early round investment towards them. Personally, if the draft fell a certain way I could be very agreeable to selecting both, DT- Jalen Carter, Georgia and DT- Brian Bresee, Clemson. I see both of them as being ultra disruptive. They're both known for stopping the run and possessing the talent to get after the QB. Maybe more like Aaron Donald types. This would fix interior of the DL for several seasons to come and help free up the DE's to be more effective.
I only want (1) LB and that would be LB- Jack Campbell, Iowa who is a big and fast tackle machine that hits with authority and executes a fundamental tackle with consistency. Texans need one of these really bad. Coincide Campbell with Carter and Bresee and I think the Texans run defense could be a hallmark in quick order.
i dont see the explosion from Anderson that i would like to see from my edge rushers. Alot of his pressures i’ve seen of him come off of twists/stunts. My “film study” isnt comprehensive or anything like that, but i dont get top 5 pick vibes from him.
Breese..i wonder about him b/c he didnt really come on until late at Clemson..hes smallish and Also doesnt strike me as a top 15-20 guy. Add into that his health concerns..Acl a few years ago and he also had some other medical issue just last week…
the only defensive player i think is worthy of us picking anywhere in top 10 that we actually need is Carter. Need a big plug in the middle who can be very effective against the run but can also rush the passer..a true 3 down guy.
You have all 4 in the top 10???That group of defensive players I like…..size out at:
DT- Jalen Carter / 6-3 @ 300 lbs
DT- Bryan Bresee / 6-5 @ 305 lbs
LB- Jack Campbell / 6-5 @ 246 lbs
DT- PJ Mustipher / 6-4 @ 321 lbs
I think Carter in the top 10, the rest I think he likes laterYou have all 4 in the top 10???
Who is PJ Mustipher? Haven't heard of him
I know that's what Mr. Tex likes, but OT lumps them all togetherI think Carter in the top 10, the rest I think he likes later

edit: Ok, I went and looked at PFN draft simulator, they have Mustipher @ #16 DT and #184 overall... they also have Campbell #8 LB, #90 overall and at 6-3@207 lbs
I think Carter in the top 10, the rest I think he likes later
I know that is what Iowa's site (thus ESPN and others) have butAll the other sites have him at 6-5 @ 246 lbs like; Draft Buzz, ESPN, Hawkeye Sports, Draft Dive, The Draft Network, 247 Sports, and more.
Ok, the way you listed them before I thought you were saying they were all top 10 worthy... because you said you had those falling in Mr. Tex's top 10 rangeCarter and Bresee.....RD1
Campbell......RD3
Mustipher......RD5
