Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones was just 5-7, 165 pounds when he graduated from Marion Abramson High School in New Orleans in 2002.
Fullback Vonta Leach has a photo to prove it.
“He looks like he’s from a third-world country or something,” Leach said, barely able to contain himself as he showed the photo to reporters in the Texans’ locker room on Wednesday. “A hundred and 25 pounds soaking wet, a senior in high school, this is Jacoby Jones.”
Jones was an all-area sprinter in high school, competing in the 100-and 200-meter dashes. That earned him a track scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana, where a late growth spurt added five inches and 50 pounds to his frame. He transferred to Lane College in 2003 and was drafted in the third (2nd) round by the Texans in 2007.
“He came a long way, baby,” Leach said. “He came a long way.”
