Interesting tidbits from Denver

Waterboy
I was browsing the Denver board seeing how they felt about Kubiak and they were saying that he is gone to Houston and they liked him..

Also it's nice to hear what others feel Houston should do. They were all pretty much saying Reggie and trade for OL/DL.. saying the trenches is where it starts.. and they mostly believe Carr/AJ is the bomb and DD is aproven NFL stud.

That's real good news.

Something else to add to the fire.........................

New HC's usually bring new QB's.

Will Van Lee Pelt or whatever his name is be our backup?(or compete for the starting job?)

Van Pelt is exactly like VY. Why would we want to get a QB like a VY when we could get the real thing???

Well true, Carr has bombed but I wouldn't say that about AJ yet. He just needs someone to get him the ball.

Thanks for the post, it is nice to see what outsiders think. I hope that the Kubiak part is right on the money too. That is who I would like to see get the j-o-b. Saunders a close second in my mind, and it would be sweet to have Gray as our DC.

Positive things but I don't find DD to be a stud or Carr. I'd love AJ to get a full season going off though. I'm glad to see that they respect and like Kubiak.

They said he was the Bomb. Not that he bombed?

GAWD!!!

Its funny how all of those outside of Houston think that we should get Bush, not Young. I think that Houstonians are just plain off their freakin rocker about VY. He is not as good as you think!!!!!!!!!!!

VY will be a bust, these are longhorn fans getting hyped about this guy, VY is not ready for the NFL!

Come on...use common sense. It's not ONLY LH fans that are high on VY. It's the people that have actually seen him play in more than one or two games.

Why are people outside of TX not so high on him? B/c they've only seen him play once or twice and think that it's all just hype b/c it was in a recent performance. People that have seen him play on a consistent basis know that it's not just hype. Whereas everybody in the freakin world heard about how good Hollywood-Bush was since last season. I mean Sportscenter did a 12-part special about them against the greatest teams of all time and how Bush was the second coming.:brickwall

I am a Longhorn who has seen Vince play many times and I think this hype is out of control. Do I think VY will be a very good pro player? Yes, but it will be 3-5 years down the line. If the Texans draft VY they are essentially saying his value is greater than that of Carr and Bush combined. I cannot swallow this pill. VY will probably be a better QB over his career than Carr, but that does not mean picking him is what is best for the team.

Then why did the hype start AFTER the Rose Bowl? I heard nothing about Vince until after the Rose Bowl. This town was going Bush crazy until after the Rose Bowl.

Yup, that's how he got to a prowbowl guy, just threw it to himself.

Did you see how many balls AJ had in his hands that he dropped this past season?

Plenty. This year snowballed bigtime. It started out so completely bad in Buffalo and then the following week against the Steelers it got worse. I swear it knocked the entire team senseless for the year.

This has been discussed a million times in other threads. No one knew that he was going to the NFL; it was general consensus that he would return to UT. It wasn't the Rose Bowl performance that changed everyone's mind about Young. That performance just changed HIS mind b/c after that, he had proven what he was worth so he had nothing to gain by returning another year. Once he declared, it changed the whole draft.

So everyone knew for a fact Bush was entering the draft? Sure is funny Vince has declared for the draft already and Bush has not, and before the end of the season this place was filled with Bush madness...

yes it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that bush was entering the draft.

Most people expected Vince to come back

But Bush hasn't declared yet...

We're not discussing what HAS happened already. Just saying that was the general PERCEPTION before the Rose Bowl by most everyone on this board, not to mention the entire sports world. Also b/c Bush said that if he won the Heisman "I'm out".

Just trying to answer your question about why wasn't anyone hyping VY before the Rose Bowl.....He wasn't EXPECTED to come out before that point:homer:

Exactly. The Young hype started after the Rose Bowl but before he declared.

:brickwall :brickwall What are you talking about?! Of course it started after the Rose Bowl b/c after that performance it was pretty much a given that he WOULD declare! I don't understand what point you're trying to make:confused:

Point I am trying to make is, about halfway into our season when it looked like everything was going down the tubes, Bush mania started because of the season he was having, all the while Young was having his own great season and nothing was said about Young. Fact is no one, until a couple of days ago, knew 100% if one, both, or neither of them would declare. But no one said anything about Young until after the Rose Bowl. And you cannot tell me it is a given that he was going to declare because of the performance he had in the Rose Bowl.

I cant help it, evertime I see that avatar I laugh. The funniest avatar I have seen yet.

I dont think Vince Young will be a bust but I dont think he will be our first pick either.

I like what I am hearing out of Denver. Carr/Bush/DD or Vince/DD. We will be okay either way.

I may be wrong (since it wasn't my post), but I think the point is that Bush is a junior. Young is a junior. Who had the most hype BEFORE the Rose Bowl? Bush. Why was it a foregone conclusion that Bush would declare? Because at the time, he was THE sensation. Young is an extremely gifted football player, but the HYPE on this board started after the Rose Bowl.

I don't want to hear any of this stuff about Vince saying he was coming back for his senior season. If I had a nickel for every athlete that said they were coming back, yet entered the draft...:brickwall

The fact is that neither had declared and Bush still hasn't...

And kept getting worse!:brickwall I think you are correct - the players seemed to be stupified at what was happening, they didn't know how to fix it, and it became like a self-fulfilling prophecy - they expected awful things to happen and they did. BTW, I, too, love your avatar - it makes me laugh.:highfive:

I'm going to agree with the one poster beating his head above. It was assumed all year that VY was going back to school while Bush was coming out. Thus no scouts had done work on him. There was a scout on ESPN that said so. He said that most didn't start going and talking about him as a draftee this year until after the Rose Bowl because that game forced his hand. Until then no one thought twice. The guy has been doing this for over 2 years. I am not sure what people don't understand except that they are tired of hearing about him. I was all for Bush and still am to an extent and that was what this town was about for 2 months so I'm sure some of you can see the irony in you being tired of VY. I don't think some people even saw him play half the time.

Thanks for the tidbits from Denver. As usual it changed to the VY vs. Bush debate really quickly. You just can't escape it!!

YUP, every post on any subject derails into the ditch over that. It has gotten pretty darn tiresome.

Why was it assumed that Bush was coming out? Because to that point Bush was the dominant player in college football. The perception did not change until the Rose Bowl when the two were on the same field. This is not really a fair comparison. I have been watching Vince since he went to Texas, but I still don't know if Bush or Young will be the better pro. We won't really know until they put on the pads and actually play in the NFL. We can say this or that all we want. The simple fact is that we are all guessing.

I just hope the Texans do what is right for the franchise's long-term success, whatever that may be. I am glad I am not the one making the decisions. Too much pressure for me!

And I continue to fall into the trap of the debate. I will try to stay out of these traps!

Because Vince was pretty adamant about not going before he won the rose bowl and because we didn't know what pick we were going to have. After the Rose Bowl Vince showed what all of us Texan fans have been wanting to do and that is win.
