Head Coach Candidate (Lovie Smith Hired) 2/7/22

Kick Lovie upstairs as we did with Romeo and get our coach of the future and let him and whomever the general manager is have the next two drafts to shape the roster the way he wants it. I still would like to see the offensive coordinator or the wide receiver/ passing coordinator for Ohio State to come here as offensive coordinator. Do not seem to hear much on this site about the Improvement of Justin Fields recently.

RS/BOB should've both been fired at the same time. Just as Kubiak/RS should've been fired at the same time.

The McNair's greatest fault other than caring about money over the product they put on the field is, that they never fully clean house when they fire and hire new employees. This has really set the franchise back.
Dude every owner values money, that’s why they’re owners of a NFL franchise.

We’ve had this discussion before, we have all agreed that they should’ve fired both Rick and Kubiak. They also should’ve fired both Rick and Bill.

Agreed, but also take the defensive responsibility from him as well. RC still had his hands on the defense when he went upstairs.

Corporations never fire the entire board of directors. They'll fire one guy, promote another, and groom a third. This is the Texans way. The McNairs only understand a corporate boardroom perspective. They'll let Caserio pick a third head coach, once again failing to hold accountability in hire regard in favor of whatever other metrics they are comfortable with as owners.

Yeah, all the billionaires love money, but some actually earned it themselves and understand competition and the drive to succeed. Unfortunately, that is not the McNairs. I'm not sure they have competitive bone in their bodies. They are comfortable with their wealth and the revenue generation from their NFL investment.

I have no doubt that they probably want to win. It's fun and produces even more revenue! But, they don't have that fire in their bellies that pushes them to learn to be better at managing a team, analyzing data, comprehending how to interview football minds, or adapt to an evolving football landscape. I've never heard anything inspiring from Cal in that regard. Nice guy, but nice guys often finish last.

It's the Texans... their likely to do both and then fire Lovie when the team fails again
Probably thinking about it now. But they’ll wait 4 games into 2023, when they can’t do anything about it. Then they’ll be the last team to hire a new HC after all the good candidates are gone.

Not my boy

I dont worship people.

BTW, I didn't expect the Raiders to do well this yr, due to bad OL play and a weak secondary.
I think your boy, Josh McDaniels is after the Texan's #1 draft pick after losing to the Colts and Jeff Saturday today, at home no less. The Raiders now have the #2 pick. Is it possible that Josh is a worse HC the 2nd time around than he was his first time in Denver? Does Belichick put a voodoo spell on his asst coaches, administrators, and facilitators?

I have a boy, his name is Mark. Actually he's a fine young man now.

Seeing what Saturday has done makes me wish Cal would have listened to his momma and Easterby and hired McCown. Couldn't be worse than with Lovie.

If Easterby was still here, then yes it could be. Either way, the Texans wouldn't have done sh!t this year anyway. Lovie, McCown, random assclown, what difference would it have made?

Lol wow after 1 win against a sorry ash Raiders team who looks to be fighting for the number 1 draft spot.

Now I hope Lovie stays through the end of next season, so the Texans will have the #1 pick in the 2024 draft too. You know how you say Mills ain't what we're looking for? I'm thinking both Mills/Lovie/Staff ain't what we're looking for.

I still say the jury is out on Mills, and Lovie minus some current staff will probably be back next year because of the botched hiring process that lead to his hiring. We'll see. Predicting the future of the Texans is like wondering if that mudflow coming down the hill will hit your house or the neighbors.

Quoted for truth.

Bringing in a new GM and coaching staff immediately would not significantly impact our draft for 2023 but would be the foundation for the future. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired as someone famous once said!

Why would you even thing about getting rid of Caserio unless you don’t have a long term vision? Can’t blame the HC hirings on him. Janice, Cal, Easterby, Flores, OB, and Watson all played a role and making this team unappealing to HC candidates (no talent no picks) and impacted the hiring of anyone they wanted (Janice, Cal, Flores and Easterby.)

Caserio is laying the foundation better than most. Who would do better that is available?

Who would you replace Caserio with? And let’s be real about the candidates that would actually come here. Because they would report to Cal and Janice. What candidates want that?

Man - I know it’s frustrating being a Texans fan since 51-7. The drama, talent drain, and decision making is unlike anything else.

We just got to accept this turnaround and rebuild is gonna to be longer than anything else too.

I agree that head coaching decisions not on Nick but I am not satisfied with his decisions. I also disagree that the mcnairs would not step into the background and stay there if we had the right people in place below them. I think the termination of Jack easterby was a huge step in the right direction and supports my comments. The Mcnairs are nowhere near the only inadequate owners in the NFL and some like Dallas continue to attract free agents and coaches. I think that with our draft picks for the next 2 years which can be made even more significance with trade downs, a young head coach like Mike Kafka would come here in a New York minute.

I am not well versed in general managers candidates. That does not mean one would not come here.

I'm still trying to figure out what you dont like about Caserio? I think you're ignoring history if you think the McNair's are going to change the way they do business.

He completes one of the best trades for Derrick in NFL history. It rivals the Walker trade. There was no cap space available, now there is. I'm guessing you're speaking of the Texans being players for top tier FA's. When have the Texans ever been players for top tier FA's? As far as hiring Kalfka goes I would love for him to be the hire. If you want him to come here as much as I do then pay him above the normal rookie HC wage scale. I dont think that currently the Texans HC job is as bad as you think it is, particularly having the 1st pick in the draft and having multiple 1st rd picks for multiple yrs. Dont believe what the media is telling you. Gannon is a guy that will be on the top of most HC candidates lists this yr and he wanted the Texans HC job. Caserio also wanted to hire him but Cal shut that down which is why the Texans org is where it's at today. Essentially Cal's no different than his daddy in his management style. They hire a guy tell him he's in charge and can do anything he sees fit to do. Then the new GM says I want to hire xyz HC and ownership says well I know I said you can do what you want to do and have free reign, what I meant was do everything but the hiring of the HC. Same goes with Caserio being told not to wear the headset, you can do anything but that etc.... I know we've all worked for people with this management style and it sucks, because we end up taking the heat when it's really the superiors who screwed the pooch. Now that Easterby is gone I wonder who the next guy will be that takes the heat for the McNair's ineptness and you know I wasn't an Easterby fan.

The Watson's trade has nothing to do with Nick Caserio.

There were more than one interested party, and the going rate was well publicized.

I can blame HC hirings on him when candidates are pulling themselves out of the running because Nick won’t let them hire their own staff.

For the 1,000 time, the McNairs hire the HC's. Do you really believe Lovie or Culley for that matter were guys Caserio went to Janice/Cal and said we've gotta hire these guys, they're the best candidates out there. Truth is without Cal's interference Gannon would be the HC today. How would you have felt about that hire?

Harris had a good game on Sunday. His first two games were very rough and these last two have been much better. Every pick we hit on is huge but even more so in the front 7 so hopefully can keep that up

He was just rusty and getting used to the speed of the NFL game. He hadn't played since the national championship game. The more he plays the better he should get.

I don’t think we can nope our ways out of no draft picks no talent no cap-room in the first year. Then in the second year which is more like our first year of rebuilding can be confusing perspectives and create unrealistic expectations.
Your "marriage" seems to be to the GM and the new head coach who has been here for some time. My "marriage" is to the team and its history which got us into this position of no draft picks no decent free agents Etc. I'm sure you are as frustrated as I; I'm just tired of hearing excuses when things do not seem to get better but get worse. We were told it would get better in the last year of o'brien. DeShaun Watson was not the only stinking Apple in this Barrel . We were resigned but hopeful under the one year dude. Now we're in second year of a rebuilding program and already discussing a new head coach with another 5-year plan. I get it but I don't want to get it anymore. Sometimes when you know you need to have a bowel movement and you hold it that decision ends up in a mess. Yet the Texans seem to do this exact same thing repeatedly.

I have much more to say but I'm not. My rant is not directed at you Texans Bull but I took the opportunity.

Looks like Harris is going to be the 2nd LB in Lovie's defense.

Looks like he wants Hanson to be the third guy, but I saw a lot of Cashman out there as well.
I think he's trying to save a draft pick but not sure he's going to be successful on that front.

I agree on Watson and Caserio as basically all car stereo had to do was to pick the best offer and did little negotiation in my opinion on this particular player trade. Yes he got a good deal but many think it could have been better . I did not like their first round picks regardless of who made the call. I want both him and lovey gone. I do not like their defensive scheme or their offensive approach. I don't like that players seem to regress under them. I was so ecstatic that O'Brien was gone I was willing to settle for anything despite that having to be David Culley.

Lovey was the guy who just happened to be there when everything else fell apart and him being black was good for the owner.

Smith did not use his race to get his position but I sure as hell don't blame him for taking advantage.

The mcnairs may not change but I am hopeful and that is probably just a gut feeling and the termination of Easterby as I mentioned before indicates that at least to me. If I am supposed to be optimistic about everything else I guess I can be optimistic in the mcnairs.

Not only that, Watson was able to go back and forth between the Falcons (close to home) and the Browns (better team) in the final days.
But in the end, it was probably the money when the Browns upped the ante.

Casserio is a symptom of a larger disease, but he is not the disease itself.

He is almost irrelevant. This is why Granny and Jethro hired Jack Easterbunny. You could hire the Indian from One flew over the Cuckoo's nest and be just as well off.

Granny and Jethro pick the HC making sure he's a nice boy and raised up right. Nick picks the assistants after making sure they are sufficiently part of the right culture. Gotta check with Jethro on that once he is done playing video games.

Granny, Jethro, and the assistants pick all the players. Get a few nice boys that pray and that winning thing will take care of itself.

Nick is just there to facilitate it all. He's a paper shuffler, a file clerk, and a yes man all rolled into one. In short, he's perfect for this org.

The same thing will be said about any GM hired by the Texans as long as the McNairs own the team- and it ain't a lie, but I don't know of many teams that's not the same

So Nick picked the asst coaches on Lovie's staff?

Yes, the HC tells the GM the types of players he needs drafted for his systems. The GM/Scouts help find these players. The GM ultimately makes the final call on the picks. This is what an org that's not dysfunctional looks like. I know it's hard to recognize because the Texans org has been dysfunctional for over a decade.

The only caveat is Texans ownership puts restrictions on certain types of players that the GM can draft and unfortunately this puts the GM in a difficult situation, since he can't do what other GM's are allowed to do, draft the best players.

This should be the case, but we know that Lovie chose Stingley over Sauce. NC may have chosen him anyway, but that's not as clear

He told Nick that he preferred Stingley over Sauce and Nick went along with what Lovie wanted because Nick didn't know they types of players needed to run Lovie's defense. That's the smart thing to do IMHO and exactly what I would've done if I was in Nick's shoes. They both looked pretty happy with the Harris pick and that was probably who Lovie wanted, for the same reasons. It's called alignment between the GM/HC and it's long overdue down on Kirby.

Do you really think Caserio picked Lovie's staff? You didn't answer that question. BTW, what is it specifically that you dont like about Caserio?

What does it matter, Caserio did his job, he got Lovie the player Lovie wanted.

Not according to Nick Caserio himself.

He started in the article I had linked to is that the scouting department presents a number of players to him, then he gave the coaches a number of players to ask for opinions.

What Lovie wants may or may not be approved by him, the final decision maker.
