So if they fire the coaching staff right now, what message does THAT send to the players? Who's left--some interim coach who they know won't be back?
Look, I'm definitely in favor of making changes in the offseason, or even later this year, but right now I'm not so sure how smart it is to fire a head coach after a quarter of the season.
The flipside, of course, is that if the players have already quit on Capers, it won't matter and might actually get a LITTLE better--example: the Dolphins did win a couple of games for Jim Bates last year after they finally dumped Wannstedt.
Firing everyone is the "nuclear option" and I think maybe 0-6 is the point where that starts to look appropriate. 0-4 is still early, even though the team looks truly pitiful out there.
Bottom line: It's not enough to want to fire someone. Who will replace them?
