Jacoby Jones swears he's a Houston Texan through and through, but when it's not football season, you'll probably find him in home-sweet-home New Orleans, crashing at his mother's house. Jones also readily, and proudly, admits to being a die-hard Saints fan back in the day, up until the Texans made him the 73rd pick of the 2007 draft.
This past winter his regular running buddies in the Big Easy were Saints receivers Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson and Marques Colston, plus cornerback Tracy Porter. They did, in fact, literally run together, sweating many of their days away in a demanding fitness program called Sonic Boom, directed by former Southern University football and track star Wyatt Harris.
The arduous paces six days a week, 4½ hours per session that Harris put the players through made partying hard afterwards a less attractive option and got Jones into what he insists is the best shape of his life. He claims to have gained five pounds of muscle with no loss of foot speed, saying he can still rip off a 40-yard dash in 4.24 seconds.
Wish I'd known Wyatt before the (draft) combine, Jones concedes. He could have made me a first-round pick.
