Crabtree FTW
Pretty surprising to me, honestly. I'm excited about this move.

Time to shop Gore around. Martz won't use him anyways.
T-45 minutes...Here come the 'Should the Texans go after Gore' threads.... Ughhh!!!

Here come the 'Should the Texans go after Gore' threads.... Ughhh!!!
Should I go ahead and start the thread?
I did. You people know me too good... And now I misplaced the thread...I am a little surprised that Brakos didn't start it already.
It was placed where it belonged.I did. You people know me too good... And now I misplaced the thread...
I don't see it. Don't reorganize my mess!It was placed where it belonged.
hope Staley is the franchise tackle i think he is.
They needed someone. Mike Martz has a way of making something out of nothing, which is good because that's exactly what he's working with in San Francisco. Nothing. Yeah, yeah, yeah...Frank Gore. You saw how much good that did them this season. If they are wise they'll dump Smith and move on, that would be a good start. You saw how much good dumping our number one pick QB bust did for us.
Well, someone needed to turn around that offense. I thought Cameron was a lock, but Martz should do
I don't see this as a good thing for Alex Smith. Poor kid looked pretty shaky last year and he's got the bum shoulder. I hate to think what he's going to be like in Martz's offense (or a year later!)

linkMike Martz said:I think you can put him [Gore] as the centerpiece and build around that and that’s what you do with Marshall and I think there are some similarities in that respect.”

Martz doesn't run the ball and refuses to address the obvious pass-protection problem in his offense. not a whole lot to be excited about as a Niners fan. if he went to a team with a great line and a pack of good receivers, you'd have a LOT to be excited about.
Smith gets a bad rap in my opinion. Is he the franchise QB we need? I don't know. But I'm not going to cut him after last year, where he was in a horrible situation. With a good OC (Norv Turner - as thunderkyss already mentioned) he improved, so it would be unwise in my opinion to give up on him so soon.
it's all good and nice to say he'll work well with your personnel now, but that just won't be the case come game day on many occasions, i can already predict. he had several games this year where he had single digit rushing attempts. just unacceptable in any situation.
he's stubborn and is going to have his eye on the hot seat Nolan is currently occupying.
Seems like the 49ers have some really good talent on both sides of the ball.
I've always wondered why that never translated to more W's.
Dunno much about the organization, but here's my 2 cents.
If Mike Nolan hired MIke Martz, then Alex Smith is on the hot seat. If someone higher up than Nolan hired Martz, then Nolan better watch his back.
Over the course of his three year career, Smith averages a horrid 5.8 yards a pass and only manages to complete 54% of his passes. This year, before his injury, he had completed less than 50% of his passes and averaged under 5 yards a pass. I haven't seen anything from him that would indicate a promising future. Or maybe I'm just stuck on his rookie season, where he threw 1 TD and 11 INTs in just 7 starts. To be honest, at this moment in time, I would rather have David Carr starting for my team than Alex Smith.
This should be interesting. I can't see Martz and Nolan coexisting too well.
This doesn't disprove what I said. I'm aware Smith had a couple pretty bad years. I think the 2005 offense was probably the most depleted group of players I've seen in my life. Our top WR was Brandon Lloyd, and our #1 RB was Barlow just to give you an idea. No surprise Smith stunk it up that season. And Smith wasn't bad this year due to injury - he sucked because our offensive coordinator was awful. Pretty obvious considering every single unit's performance dropped off significantly once he (the new OC) took over (i.e. Smith, O-line giving up franchise high amount of sacks, Gore, etc.). With a decent coordinator, he's proved to be competent. Martz = competent. Those stats are skewed from horrible situations he was in, and aren't accurate to the QB he is today.
Nolan hired Martz. The QB job is up for grabs for the 2008 season, according to Nolan. Shaun Hill and the Smith are the only real possibilities though. I'd be shocked if Smith didn't win the job, honestly. It's very possible we'll draft a QB (albeit not in the first) also, but a rookie won't start.
No Dilfer?? He's an awesome QB..........when he's an analyst on NFLN.
Alex Smith. So, who will be the first 49er to threaten to kill Martz?
True dat. Seriously though, he'll probably retire. Could be back.
