He's got us averaging 28 ppg ...
All that matters is what they average against the plus teams. Landing on 16 points against the high powered offenses is not going to cut it.
John McClain has the Texans going 13-3
I couldn't care less what they scored against the plus teams. As long as we win. I'll take a 16-12 drumming of the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game all day.
Well sure. We'll all take the dream scenario. The point is, teams with high scoring offenses aren't going to be held to 16 points. That's been the primary difference between the Texans and the really good teams. The rules and refereeing do not allow defenses to hold down the teams that have elite offense. The NFL doesn't want offense to be held back. The Texans scored 33 points against the Saints a couple years ago and lost. Scored 28 against the Patriots and lost. The Packers and the Pats earlier brutalized them. Teams that are truly offensive powerhouses don't settle for FGs and land on 16 points. The Texans do.
I thought your point was that elite offenses won't be held to 16 points.... that's all I was referring to.
Lance Z this morning predicted 10-6. That was a bit lower than I expected from him, and I think it's on the lower side of being within the target area. I have them at 12-4 myself, but I could see as low as 10 and as high as 13.
Frankly, I trust the football acumen of Lance more than I do McClain so his 10-6 has me just a tad worried that I have over-predicted how good this team is. We'll see.
If your team score 17 points, they would have won 23 SBs and get to OT another 8 times.
If your team score 21 points, they would have won 35 SBs and get to OT 4 times.
There have been 47 SBs.
(Providing the other team is the losing team in previous SBs)
I'll say, the Texans need to score between 21-24 points to have a decent shot at winning it.

Don't give a damn what the season average for points scored is. Run it up against the Jags, Rams, Titans, and Chiefs and the season average looks pretty good. All I care about is what they score against the Seahawks, 49ers, Broncos, Patriots, Ravens, and to a lesser degree, the Colts. Settling for FGs against the good teams and scoring TDs against the Rams doesn't impress me anymore.
Wanna believe it but my gut tells me 10-6 or 11-5, starting
strong with a bad fade at the end of the year..
Just need to see this team play well on the big stage when
the brightest lights are on.

Our defense needs to step up against the elite offenses more than our QB does.
In the Packers 6 losses last season, their offense was held to an average of 22.7 points.
In the Patriots 5 losses last season, their offense was held to an average of 23.6 points.
Against us, both teams broke 40 points (the Pats twice).
Sure, it would be nice if Schaub was an elite QB and he can go toe-to-toe with Brady and Rodgers... but he isn't, nobody is saying he is. Our defense needs to step up against the elite offenses more than our QB does.

Frankly, I trust the football acumen of Lance more than I do McClain so his 10-6 has me just a tad worried that I have over-predicted how good this team is. We'll see.
This sums it up for me as well, nicely said! Schaub needs to step it up, but so does the D. Giving up 40+ to the great teams doesn't exactly help the offense win those games.

Was he able to say 13-3 without having to suck in 100 cubic feet of air? Bonus would be without mentioning a movie he was in for 2 seconds?
He's got us averaging 28 ppg (which will probably be about right) & giving up 18 ppg (I'm hoping we don't give up that much but we'll see).
6-10 then draft Derek Carr in the 1st round.
This message board implodes!
I think that's a good call. I'm going with 9-7 but it's not all gloom and doom as I think we'll still win our division and actually make it one game further in the playoffs. The defense is a particular worry. As good as JJo and Kareem are, they're still not good enough to cover for 5 seconds if we get no pass rush, and there's not much pass rush unless Watt is on form.
Still, looking forward to the season no matter how it turns out
