I'm just as upset as the next guy, but it's ONE GAME. Pittsburgh has the best, most aggressive defense in the NFL. They threw things at the Texans that this team has never seen. And with a rookie left tackle and a rookie RB taking the majority of snaps with our guys, facing a defense like that has "BRUTAL" written all over it. A loss is a loss, whether it's by 35 or 1. Just like a win is a win.

So suck it up, consider it a valuable learning experience for our young guys, and stop being quitters and fairweather fans. The team needs your support against Baltimore this weekend because they have a couple of nasty road games coming up for us. GET BEHIND THEM AND LIGHT THE FIRE UNDER THEM. Let this ass-kicking be the wakeup call that it needs to be, and we'll return the drubbing in the playoffs.

The good news is that our division looks vulnerable. Indy's offensive line is banged up and weak, and Peyton looks gimpy, rusty, and timid. VY is out for a few weeks, and we won't be facing him when we visit Tennessee. The Jags lost an offensive lineman to a tragic gun attack in the offseason, another in a preseason injury, and two more in the opener. That run game will NOT be what we saw last season.

We are primed to make some noise in this division and shake things up, so we need to pick up our embarrassed arses and show this team we have their backs no matter what. Did you guys SEE San Francisco's empty end zone seating for their home opener? That's just shameful. I don't want to be THOSE guys.
 
I got the same feeling yesterday that we might be going backwards again. I mean I just feel that we are the Lions of the AFC South every single freaking year and what makes it worse is that I live next to a Titans fan. I mean I f'ing hate the Titans!

That game sucked, and I am going to say it sucked.
 
Yeah it sucked, but you had to expect a beat down. I did. Even so, I didn't think it would determine the rest of the season. The screaming banshees are out of control. The OP is correct--it's just one game.

my concern is Weaver is getting paid alot of jack and what we have seen is 1 sack in 2 years plus one game

He averages about the same am't of tackles as he did in Baltimore but getting to the QB is almost non-existant

14.5 sacks in 4 years at baltimore... here 2 years 1.0

now i understand that he didn't have mario the first year , and I understand that this is one game and he drops into coverage .. but if Mario get doubled and tripled team and someone on the other side of the line can't get in.. we are in some serious trouble.

well for a "knocking on the door" potential playoff team (hence knocking on the door part) .. we may be beat but not in the fashion that we did
 
I did not expect a win but I expected us to at least be in the game. By the way a loss is not always just a loss and a win is not only just a win. If we went to Pitt and showed heart but lost we build confidence and can gather some momentum to carry us through the next couple games. Now we have to worry about the psyche of the team and hope that they can forget about this one game, grow a sack, and hand the ravens a thrashing. Are you telling me that a win over the dolphins is the same as a win over the colts?

Exactly.

I would be OK with just a loss.

It's how we lost. No heart. That worries me.
 
Several that post on this board, that have tickets to the game, will show up and back our team.

Hell, I know some that will tailgate with Ike engulfing Reliant!

Don't worry DerekLee, we will hear a different tune throughout TT.com when the Texans give us a good outing this Sunday. I am counting on Mario and several others to show up and welcome Flacco to the NFL.

We just got beat. You don't have such a long injury list and scores later in the game with no heart.

This team has tons of heart and fight. They just ran into a full speed train in Pittsburgh.
 
I voted in the poll on this board that the Steelers would win by a little. I did everything I could to convince myself that would be the case prior to the game. But when I left work on Friday, I told my co-worker we were going to get owned. And we did.

Sure, it's just one game, but it's a continuation of the way things have been. We have no running game, and we have no defense. Until we get those two things, we're going to continue to lose against good teams and be inconsistent against mediocre and bad teams. We're not ready to take that next step.

If he pulls a run on us like he did against Cincy...man that was ugly. Now THAT was a bad defense. My prediction is Mario will have 3 sacks and another FF.

Where I saw heart was on the Steelers D after Mario caused the forced fumble. The Steelers dug deep and came out swinging.

Where was our heart? In that big open spot in the middle of the field?

That is such a cop out, you know yourself that is not true. So I guess the Oiler-Bill playoff game was just a loss, or 19-10 was just a win, or the Indy win on christmas eve was just a win. Being in the stadium for those 2 wins I for one know they weren't.

Nobody is saying that all is lost , but people have the right to have the concerns and feel like here we go again. Schaub has played a whopping 12 games here and he is already looking like a beaten man out there. It took Carr 35 or so games to get there and this guy is getting there already.

The defense can't seem to get better as a team, we have always had individual talent from day 1, pro bowlers since year 1 on this team, but never a captain to lead the ship.

Now, that being said, they could win 4 of the next 5 and everyone will look back at week 1 as the point the Texans made the turn. But since that has never happenned in this franchise's history some of us will be less than optomistic right now.

I think you may be misreading me.

I don't think they are lying down. But I don't think they played as hard as the are capable of (obviously).


I think they need more fire in their belly's.

Show up and make it a game, no matter who the opponent is.
 
Depending on where ike goes we might not even have a game this sunday ................

This is so true.... I don't think anybody really expected us to win this one, but for our team to look like some class 1-a girls jv volley ball team is a total embarrassment and might just be a harbinger of a long season.

Actually, the sky is not falling at all. Folks, it's simple. We are a somewhat middle of the pack team, not a loser anymore. We got our asses handed to us by one of the elite teams in the NFL. So what? That's life in the NFL.

As others have pointed out, we do have our weak spots and we aren't going to the playoffs this year, but that doesn't mean we are going 2-14 again and also doesn't mean we are gonna be 5-2 at the bye.

What it means is probably anywhere from a 7-9 to a 9-7 season. At least it looks like the hurricane is going to miss us, so now we can concentrate on beating the Ravens. Go Texans! :fans:

If we beat Baltimore, I'll agree that we are a middle-of-the-pack team. Right now, I have to wonder if we deserve the "mediocre" judgement. Let's not forget that our last win was a gimme.

Everything about our D worries me right now, except for Williams and Ryans, including the DC.

I am willing to give our rookie LT a pass and the rest of our O-Line somewhat of a pass in this one, because that crap is what happens when you play your first regular season game in Blitzburgh.
 
It is just one game and ultimately we have to accept that two days following the season opener there are fans from 16 teams sitting around thinking the same general kind of thoughts we're thinking today. Sure, not all of them were humiliated in their openers but all of them started the 2008 season off with a turd sandwich.

Raiders fans got crushed again as did Rams fans. Seahawks fans got the same treatment. They're sitting in the same shell crater we are wondering what hit them today with all that off-season hope just floating away from them.

Redskins, Lions, Chiefs, 49'ers and Dolphins fans didn't see their teams blown out but they are on average asking themselves today if this is going to be another one of "those" seasons. You know the words "Not again" were being said a lot around those towns on Sunday.

Colts fans and Chargers fans are probably doing pretty good. They lost but for them I'm sure this amounts to little more than a bad taste in their mouths. If either of those teams lose in week two then they'll have that little knot in their gut that comes along with a seed of doubt.

The Bucs, Bengals, Browns, and Vikings fans are all probably disappointed but but hanging in there today. They lost but I"m sure that hope is still in their vocabulary.

Jags fans have to be asking what deity their team angered to deserve the problems they've been having. Maybe they offended some little known "tarp god" or something?

Anyway, we're not alone. One win against Baltimore will right so much of what's hurting us right now so in the grand scheme of things I agree that it was just really "one game" and now more than ever we need to see the Texans take things one game at a time. Time to beat Baltimore at home to even things up.

This team showed no heart. They went into Pit and new they were going to lose and played like it.

Just like when they went to San Diego, Just like when they went to New England, anytime they goto Nashville or Indy.

You wanna Win like a big dog, you gotta play like a big dog.

Look at Chicago. Our offense is a thousand time better than theres. Who does Chicago have on Defense? Urlacher, Mike Brown. Briggs. Who else? Other no names. We have more talent on our defense than they do. Yet, they go into Indy and crush Manning and company, in Indy.

Kyle Orton? Are you kidding me?

Never underestimate the Heart of a Champion. Also never underestimate the lack of one either.
 
I can't/won't comment on "no heart", but what I saw was a team that got punched in the mouth and failed to punch back. Time for a gut-check, if nothing else. These guys need to man-up and get pissed about getting their asses handed to them last Sunday. They need to come out swinging in their home stadium and show us and the world that the last game was not indicative of things to come. Win or lose, they need to go down fighting.
 
The problem is, we see a game just like this 'one game' every third or fourth game with this team. It is a very disturbing trend when the big picture is considered.
 
Very true and that's a hard thing to get used to. The Texans entire lifespan is very reminiscent of the Oilers early-to-mid eighties rebuilding process. Pieces kept being added one after the other but the corner always seemed to be just out of sight. Maybe the hardest thing to deal with as a fan is this two steps forward, one step back stage of a teams development. With the Oilers we had the "Luv-Ya-Blue" years to look back on and we knew what we were trying to get back to. With the Texans we have a short and ugly history of suck. Nobody on this planet has ever seen a Texans team that was without question "good". Maybe someday but not yet.

the Raider fans should REEEALLY be p!ssed... they seemingly made moves to improve. Got the #1 QB in the 2007 draft (by some accounts) and the #1 RB in the 2008 draft... and supposedly upgraded their defense with a couple of moves...
and yet they stunk it up worse than we did. I mean, they got spanked AT HOME... And we're an kiddie franchise compared to how long the Raiders have been around. Given that our first 3-4 yrs were basically trashed, we're only three yrs old.

The Jags fans shouldn't be surprised. Since Del Rio has been there, they are sucky to so-so every other year. Check the history. And since they were playoff material last year, this could be their year to suck.

I'm not saying we should be happy with this loss but the world isn't about to end because we got beat down by a better team.
What we all want to see is how all those things that went wrong will be corrected
...and how soon.

I think the Colts are in trouble this year :thinking: I'd be more pi$$ed off if we lost (at home) against the Bears like they did. Next game will say a lot about this team.

Exactly! Very well said.

I understand the perspective of just one game or take it one game at a time, but the Texans still have the same problems they have always had.

It's becoming very apparent nothing has really changed since having Kubiak as head coach excpet that the fan base isn't arguing needlessly about the QB position.
 
NO Offense can work without an offensive line FLEX or otherwise. What happened to the new/old coach that was to FIX that?
I love the fact that we have a team in Houston that we call our own but maybe we should go back and teach them to Block and to tackle.

One loss. Yeah I am worried too with HOW we lost, I thought Schaub would have been better, but I am not TOO worried at all.

Guys lets remember something, The Browns were trashed by the Steelers in their season Opener last year...how did that season go for them? The NYgiants were having major defensive problems at the start of the season...did that end well for them?

Our team can take this one of two ways...

A.) Say 'Shucks, we suck again this season' and give up for the rest of the season.

B.) Say 'We are much better than that.' and show it next week. Week 1 isn't the end all be all week. They are still in the playoff race.

Sometimes it is actually better to get blown out then lose by one score...

Why?

Because when you lose close games players can blame everything but themselves...but when you're embarassed like that...EVERYONE will KNOW they have to play better than that.

This could be the wake up call we need...or it could be a sign of more things to come. Hang in there guys, should be a fun season.

Isn't that the same Browns team that beat the Texans when a play-off berth was still a possibility? The problem is that they seemed to out hustle the Texans and just plain wanted it more. The Texans did not look like they came to the game to seize the opportunity. They weren't ready to play.

That was another 'just one game' like the last one. The Texans aren't like those Browns at all. They lack the determination.

The point is, you can't take much from the first game of the season. We whooped KC last season and the Browns got whooped in their opener...

This was THE SAME Browns team that had horrible seasons before that one. When they lost that game, A LOT of people thought it would be another year and they would be drafting top 5 again.

Browns game wasn't the same also. We knew much more about both teams at that point last season. This is a new season, we don't know much about ANY team this season.

This past game could have been many things...
1.) The Steelers were just a horrible match-up
2.) Texans just suck
3.) Steelers came out prepared, wanted it more.
4.) They were just on another level.

In the NFL a lot of teams go through up and downs, as I mentioned the Giants last time. These guys the first 2 games were getting hammered for their defense, it wasn't tough enough or good enough...yet it was because it helped them go all the way.

Point is again...IT IS ONE GAME in a NEW season. We don't know much about the season...for all we know this could be the only bad game our Oline has and Gibbs get our running game going against the Ravens next week.

Eh, a lot of things can and will happen. I'm not saying they will be good or bad. All I am saying is, you can't take much from the first game of the season...now after week 4...I will be ready to say whether they are playoff contenders or just another team again.
 
You make some valid points. This could be the year the Texans find some confidence and aggression.

My point is also valid though. Even though it is a new season, the team has a personality from the past - a team that hasn't stepped up in many big games and has shown a propensity to take giant steps backward.

I'm concerned about where the leadership to make the change is going to come from - the few killer players they have who who may be too quiet to lead the charge, the coach that doesn't have them prepared, one of the slew of average at best players, a QB who looked frighteningly like Dave Carr Sunday, the injured cornerback? Do DeMeco or Winston have it in them?

I haven't seen the leadership yet. Something has to change if the Texans are going to take the step forward on a more permanent basis.
 
I'd like to think the Steelers were just a bad matchup for us.

I'm hoping they come out next week and dominate the Ravens. I hate to go to a Steelers forum and after the win guys are saying "Well, it was the Texans." hate to see that.

You're right though, this was a big game and I like many thought it would be close...at least close enough to where their starters were playing in the 4th :(

One good thing COULD come from this loss. Our players could come out next sunday pissed about that last game. They SHOULD do that...I mean all this preseason we've heard playoff hopes from our leaders...well they kinda NEED this next one... or they will be 0-2 looking at 2 road games against Tenn and Jacksonville, and a home game against Indy...yeah so big game already and they need to show they are ready to compete.

As for the leadership thing...yeah we have too many quiet leaders on this team. Kubiak after every loss says it's his fault. Too bad Travis Johnson isn't a better player, he seems like a guy that gets emotional, but yeah we don't have any leaders I'd agree on that.

I hope the players are 10 times as mad as I am. And they should be. The coaches should be pissed, the players should be pissed, they wives and girlfriends of the players should be pissed.

Take all the pissatude and maul the Ravens.

Winning sure would make all this bad mojo go away.
