Cory Bradford

tacoman_j

Waterboy
The BEST RECIEVER in WORLD has narrowed his prospects to the LIONS and TEXANS. I'm hoping that we keep him @ a reduced cost.

Source: ESPN 790 AM

LoL why would he want to be the Lions 3rd or 4th receiver when he could probably still be the #2 here? I wouldn't mind seeing him back if it's for less than he made last year...

I disagree with those of you saying signing Bradford would mean that we don't look WR in the draft...Chances are if we sign Corey, it will only be for a year, maybe two years tops...Most WRs coming into the league take a year or two to develop...Looks like Bradford may just be keeping a seat warm...

I think if we signed him.. we wouldnt look to WR in the draft. we have talent at the position, we dont really NEED anymore... if we drafted a WR it would be because we need a speedster. if Bradford came back and filled that role.. even for a year.. I dont think we would draft WR.. it could wait until next year.

no to bradford, no team gave him respect last year, so i dont want him back. mike williams all the way baby :thumbup

FYI- If the Lions get another WR, they will probably cut Az Hakim. Heck, they may cut him anyway (June 1, 2.35 mil off the cap). So Bradford would probably be #3, however, we all know about Crog's health. That is why the Lions are looking for another WR.

I think the Glassman can stay healthy this year...Don't ask me why...It's just the impression that I get after seeing guys like Grant Hill finally stay relatively healthy, but I'm well aware that you can't bank on hope...I would think yall would want to bring in somebody better than Bradford, though...

Grant hill wont have to run a slant over the middle. Plus they were his collarbones. They will never be the same they will be weaker. Besides I think Bradfor would be a good receiver if he ran something other than a hail mary route this year.

Yeah true, I agree with you somewhat on the Rogers issue...

If his football career doesn't work out, he could go back to commercials..

"I'm...Charles...Rogers...I had 22 catches and 3 career touchdowns" (weak impression of his draft day commercial in 2003)...

Im sure Fox, ESPN, NFL, or CBS could use his extensive gametime experience and propel him into a top notch analyst. He can be right up there with Randy Cross, Bill Maas, and Brian Baldinger.

whatever man...CRog has a metal plate in his collarbone. and if he breaks the other one, they'll put one in that too....bionic man baby. as a lions fan and a texans fan, i think either team would benefit greatly from bradford. i like his style, and i think he's got more skill than a lot of number 3 WRs out there.

"Bionic Man" should be visiting his friend "Milkman" to strengthen his bones. :neener:

Its unfortunate, but he may be a bust, though I hope he is not I enjoyed watching him in college. Plus with the Emergence of Roy Williams there won't be immense pressure on his performance.

Oh and by the way I think He has broken both collarbones. I think his rookie year he broke one and this year he broke the other.

Bradford would be a nice keep, only if he is willing to accept his role in the event that someone steps up and takes his job. The guy has always shown potential, but never stepped up to that next level. Think about it, he had a future NFL Hall of Famer throwing him the ball in Green Bay, and couldn't get on the same page! Sign him to protect your receiving corp, but if Michael Clayton falls to #13 in the draft, you have your #2 receiver to go along with another future hall of famer...........#80 Andre the Great! :thumbup

Mark Clayton will likely still be on the board until the 22nd pick...He's the 4th best WR in this draft...

It will be interesting to see how much his height plays into his draft positioning. He was measured at about 5'9", right?

If we discard that #, how does he compare to the 3 above him in terms of hands, route running, and speed, and quickness?

Clayton is smaller and quicker (but not a burner) like a run and shoot type WR (think Drew Hill and Earnest Givins). If you are not that old he compares to the Patriots Deion Branch.

Comparatively, (keep in mind this is JMO) this is how the top 4 WR prospects stack up:

Speed
1. Williamson (4.38)
2. Clayton (4.41)
3. Edwards (4.48)
4. Williams (4.55)

Hands
1. Williams
2. Clayton
3. Edwards
4. Williamson

Routes
1. Williams
2. Clayton
3. Edwards
4. Williamson

Clayton measured out at 5"10', so his height is adequate...

williams, williams, williams, williams.. if he is at 13 get him, he would have been a top 3 pick last year, there may be a little rust, but hell so did willis for the bills, and now travis henry is lookin for a new home. AJ and MW would be the best starting WR in the league. putting to shame Moss/Porter

then we trade up, WR at all cost! haha no i figured he wouldnt be but if was did drop, i would love it so much.

At least someone here knows to get Bradford out of town and the best receiver since Andre Johnson, Mike Williams, in town.

Trade up PLEASE!!!

Get rid of a two, three, Sharper, whatever it takes to get Mike Williams. Charlie hasn't exactly produced many productive players for the Texans after the first round anyway. I.E. Year 1 draft "Texans select Chester Pitts, Offensive Lineman. The Broncos are now on the board........................................................................................................................................The Broncos select Cinton Portis, Running Back."

Actually, it was the same collarbone. The first break healed, then he broke it again several inches away. And yes, they did put a titanium (I think) plate over the collar bone.

The reason it broke in a different spot is because when a broken bone heals, it usually is stronger due to the calcification around the break. I just don't know about that kids bones, but I sure hope he stays healthy.

So you want us to trade up to #4 for another receiver to not use in our run on 1st down, run on 2nd down, throw on 3rd down offense, huh? Great idea ...

Oh, and what exactly has Portis done without Denver's O-Line? 3.8 YPC, damn, that's hella impressive...

We need to get rid of Palmer first of all. Although if he had another good receiver in his offense he might throw more. You have to get players that can catch balls and make plays before you throw more often. Replace Bradford with Williams = Throw more.

So in year one you would rather have Chester Pitts than Clinton Portis?

First off, our "conservative" offense isn't Palmer's fault...If it were up to Palmer, our O would be more like it was in the Vikings game last year...If you want to blame someone, blame Dom...He's the one who wants to keep it close and grind out the clock...With the current O-Line, our receiving corps could be AJ, Mike Williams, TO, Marvin Harrison, and Randy Moss and none of them would be effective...

Behind our O-Line year one, Portis could've had 300 carries and still wouldn't have broken 1000 for the season...Without Pitts, Fred Weary might be starting and Carr would be dead by now...

I agree 100% D. Capers is trying to run a Steelers type offense without the personnel to do it. The Steelers have a solid WR core, a good O line, and power RB's. We have a pretty good WR core and that's about it.

You are about to get ripped

#1 - Palmer calls the plays. So when you refer to run, run, pass, punt, Palmer is the one you are criticizing. Palmer is the one sitting up in the coach’s box and calling those crappy plays to David ear

#2 - AJ wouldn't be effective with our current line. If making the Pro Bowl isn't effective, what is?

I am tired of people acting like the line is composed of a bunch of sixth graders. That would be the person who I am quoting in this post. Sure the offensive line is below average compared to the rest of the league. All teams have their problems. If you get better receivers, like Mike Williams instead of Corey Bradford, they can get off the line quicker, make an effort to play football, and make the line look better. Didn't Domanick Davis make the line look better in year two when a running threat was present and the defense had to respect the run, opening up the passing game and play action? The line is getting better; Carr isn't getting sacked like a bunch of groceries like he did in year one.

#3 - Your analysis of Clinton's production on the Texans in year one is completely hypothetical. I asked you who would you rather have drafted in the Texans first draft, Pitts or Portis, and you avoided the question. It arguably turned out okay, getting Davis, but I would rather have Portis.

Pepper, if we have a pretty good WR core, why is there talk about drafting a WR in the first round? The Colts have a pretty good WR core. I don't see them talking about drafting a WR.

I didn't say we had the best WR core, but WR is probably one of our deeper positions and I think our first pick could be used to address other positions. And here is something from Pro Football Weekly...

Citing the salary cap, general manager Charley Casserly told PFW at the Scouting Combine that the team is unlikely to go after a high-profile receiver in free agency. Casserly said that in the current system, teams can’t afford two No. 1-caliber wide receivers. The team has a young, up-and-coming WR corps, led by Pro Bowl performer Andre Johnson, but there had been some speculation the team might target former Titans WR Derrick Mason — until he signed with Baltimore on the first day of the free-agent signing period. However, the team did make a splash early in free agency, signing Dolphins LB Morlon Greenwood. He will be a starter at inside linebacker in the team’s 3-4 scheme. There could be considerable change at this position: According to The Houston Chronicle, ILBs Jamie Sharper and Jay Foreman have been allowed to seek trades.

Analysis of Clinton Portis' production behind great vs. ok OL's is one of the least hypothetical places for conjecture out there. Denver two years 5.5 ypc vs. Washington 3.8 ypc (yes that would be the just fine 205 lb every down RB behind the 3.9 ypc of the too small 221 lb third down back coming off a horrible year proving he shouldn't be a starter). Are you seriously going to argue the 2002 Texans' OL was even as good as the 2004 Skins OL?--now take Pitts out of that OL and put some street free agent or lower round pick in at LT. Portis and Carr both would have been killed.

if that is a version of getting ripped.. that is weak
1)yes Palmer calls the plays, but capers sets the boundaries. We actually pass more than most think.
2)what good is better receivers, when a defense knows it can get to Carr and only give him less than 3 seconds to go through progressions and find an open reciever.. heck Marino couldn't do that.
second part of 2... offensive line.... when was the last time you seen us really run the ball down the opponents throats? even when the opponents knew it was comming (i.e. Tennessee with Eddie George in the past)
3) I'll give you that BPA scenario (talent wise) was portis.. yet with our OL it would have hindered his talent...and wouldnt' be the player he is/was with Denver...(jury out in washington)

I guess you forgot that Dom is the head coach and he tells Palmer if he wants to go run heavy, pass heavy, or balanced...Palmer is responsible for delegating calls after that...I'm tired of everybody being down on Palmer for no reason...If you notice, a lot of the questionable play calls are plays that are switched by Carr at the line of scrimmage...I guess you never noticed that Carr always seems to switch the play to a run whenever he audibles...

Yes, despite the line, AJ was effective last year, I'll give you that...

There is no way that Mike Williams gets off the line quicker than Bradford and the only way the WRs can make the O-Line look better is if we do nothing but 3 step drops and the WRs go on slant or curl routes...Davis never made the line look better; the line was always decent at run blocking and bad at pass blocking...If anything, in year 3 he made the line look worse when there was no lane and he would just give up behind the LOS...When he's effective enough to allow us to effectively use play action, or O looks good...I agree that the line is improving, but I hope their learning experience isn't the death of our franchise QB...He got sacked 49 times last year...That's still way too much...

True my analysis was hypothetical, but do you think Portis would've ran for 1500 yards behind that O-Line? There's no way...He may have been the BPA, but that year we had too many needs to go strictly BPA...The strategy was to build both lines to be dominant and it would make the rest of the team look good...Sadly, both of our lines are our weakest spots...

I think Gaffney has earned the role as #2 unless Armstrong just comes in and puts on a clinic in training camp.
If we draft another receiver it had better be one of the 2 blue chips otherwise go DL what about our inability to get to the opposing QB? Maybe we can pull the same maneuver we did in last years draft and trade back up into round 1 and grab OL Baas as well.

I hate drafting a WR in round 1 when we have more pressing needs, like time in the pocket for Carr, OL burst on running plays, Defensive frontline penetration and not having 1 multi talented TE that doesn't give the play away to the opposing defense.

I agree on everythng but, we call the wrong plays at wrong times and sometimes way to predictable. One game I think it was Detriot or something were we ran the ball on 1st down at least 9 or 10 times in a row. O yea I would like to see Corey back in here if we dont draft a WR.

I agree with ya..many times I can smell a draw play coming on 3rd and long.. yet .. it is funny with some playcalling threads (not singling you ouT).. when they work (a run or pass) it is great, when they don't ... they are Palmers fault.. I know that comes with the territory, but is ironic ..

only reason I bring that up is that I remember watching a game where we just ran the ball down peoples throats and scored a TD (can't remember who it was against Minnesota?) and people loved it.. yet later in the game.. we got stuffed
