Hey fellow Bullpen members

I posted this a long time ago, and was berated by about everyone not in the Bullpen for making such a post.

But truth is, it's just marketing to sell more PSL's....
 
I could care less if people attack me for this post. I find the whole idea insulting to the Bullpen and the members/psl holders that have been there since day one.

Yeah, I know it's a ploy to sell tickets...but lets not disrespect the original section that started all of the main traditions. Personally, I feel as if it's a slap in the face...and so did everyone else that sits around us.
 
I never paid much attention to this, but to me, it kind of makes one feel like they are trying to push the Bull Pen out of the way...

I understnad there are other areas of the stadium that are jealous of us because we are the Bull Pen, but they can too if the Texans changed out these corporate and auctioned off seats for the real fans who make it to every game (and arrive at the start and leave at the end of every game).

This does disturb me a bit as well, Daunte...

Let's just remember, we have been here since the beginning, and most of us will always be the "Original Bull Pen Members - Established 2002"

No offense taken, and no offense meant when I say they've used the idea for the Bull Pen for the same reasons. Marketing has always been a primary driving force for this franchise.

I've ribbed back and forth with y'all about it, but I find the whole thing silly.

I'm not sure what 'main traditions' you folks have claimed to have started, as I've been there since 19-10, too. I believe that the overwhelming majority of "traditions" with this franchise are started by the marketing department. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Bull Pen, but I'm not sure what traditions us goat herders know about that started down there.

To be honest, the Texans FO could really give a crap about traditions, IMO. We have six different uniform combos for eight games. There is certainly no consistency when it comes to this stuff. "Buy More Texans Stuff" is more of our motto than anything.

And if they really wanted the Bull Pen to be like the Dawg Pound or Black Hole, then they would have tried to sell those tickets to diehard Texans fanatics. Instead, they sold out to corporate sponsors, so the 'hardcore' section is diluted down to about one third of the section, as mentioned by SheTexan. It does not seem to me that you are best served by the Texans FO's agenda, which is solely about making money.

We've never really had a "homefield advantage", so it was always kinda' goofy that they claimed any part of the stadium is the "birthplace" of it.

p.s. Did you see the video montage for "Fan Appreciation Day"? It clearly showed the Bull Pen taking very much a part of THE WAVE! :neener:

Traditions:

Holding up Giant Texans Jerseys while the visiting team players are announced.
Shouting Texans players last names during our team announcements.
**Cheering Houston...Texans! after player announcements.
Turning their backs on the opposing team after they score.
Gathering as a group for tailgating in the Blue Lot and conducting the Bull Pen Toast every game.
**Traveling to see the Texans play on the road as a group.
**Soon to come are Bull Pen Pubs for Bull Pen Game Watching parties for away games at a sponsored bar with drink specials for Bull Pen members only!

Pure speculation - did the Bullpen committee start in 2002? Did they actually help brainstorm and/or implement things like the big jerseys, "First Down," announcing players last names, and the other stuff listed on the web?

I dont remember the "first down" thing coming along until the 2006 season.

I guess by "main traditions" you really mean Bull Pen/Blue Crew traditions. ;)

If you filter everything the Texans FO does through a marketing perspective, you will find that all of this makes sense and you will not get your blood pressure up.

p.s. shouting the last names of players was started by the marketing department and advertised through the jumbotron, IIRC.

Over 26,000 seats in "Gridiron Texas", including almost all of the seats that are available to sell. Approximately 2000 seats in the Bullpen, probably 100% sold out as season tickets. So the marketing is trying to sell tickets in Gridiron instead of the Bullpen? I'm shocked, shocked I say, that the Texans are trying to sell seats!

Don't forget the traditions of whining if everyone doesn't bow down to pay homage to the Bullpen, and whining about that brutal December sun any time the roof is open and hiding out from the sun in the Bullpen Pub.

The first down thing is something that is and was done at many stadiums in the NFL. I know the panthers were doing it long before the texans played their "first down".
 
I don't know if the bullpen is the loudest section in the stadium...all i can hear is the people in my section. I really don't pay a lot of attention to the bullpen because the band and the cheerleaders and the players are who i come to see. lol. Now I know i will catch flack for this next comment but here goes. The bullpen thing was pure marketing at its best to get people to buy the worst seats in da house when that roof is opened. I wouldn't want to brave that sun and must give props to the bullpen peeps for doing it.

To the guy in the Eagles jersey who was leading the cheering of 624 last week... the Bullpen needs you! You were doing a great (sloshed, but great) job of getting your section up and rocking! :fans:

You guys are a little sensitive about the whole thing. It's no big deal. Just go to the games and cheer our boys to victory and have a good time. That is what everyone else in the stadium is doing. You guys should be happy that you are on the jumbotron the majority of the time. I see your mugs on commercials for channel 13 and you guys put together watch parties for fans. It's all good.

My buddies and I in section 522 started a "Move the Chains" chant after a first down. Two years ago it started out being us four guys on row D. We would wear our wigs and gloves and people would look at us like aliens. I would say now most of the section does it and I talk to fans in sections around us that do it. It is a lot of fun and everyone has a good time. I even see people bringing gloves.

I would love to have the entire stadium do it one day. I wouldn't be upset that I'm not getting recognized on the Texans website. My friends and I in section 522 would know where it originated from and that would be fine by me. :fans:

I really don't know what to say to anyone, other than WHY the nasty sarcasm?? We are all TEXAN fans and our focus should be supporting our football team, not lashing out at each other. The Bullpen is FUN, the Gridiron section is FUN, all the goat herder sections are FUN, the SEZ is FUN, IF you love and want to support your football team. WHO the hell cares where you sit!! I've been all over that stadium, and I see great fans having a good time in every section. Just show up, have a winning attitude, raise your voice for your team, and the good times will roll.

Wow, there definitely is a LOT of whining going one, and while I understand where it comes from, I'd just rather the WHOLE STADIUM adopt some of these "good" ideas.

- Turn your back on the opposing team AFTER they score (sans the middle finger)
- The opening Houston / Texans chant

- "Move the Chains" / "That's another Houston Texans First Down"

- Marr-eeee-O, Meee-Co, Ahhhhhn-Draaaaay, etc.

These are the "hokey" things that should bind ALL of the Texans fans together, NOT drive us apart.

LUV-Ya'-BLUE might've been hokey, but it was damn LOUD when 50000+ chanted it.
 
Try to imagine how loud it would be if 70,000 fans yelled at the same time....

I see people, when it is third down and our D is trying to make a stop, sitting on thier hands. I wish for just one time we could all be heard and maybe some of the tight arses would losen up a bit and actually have fun.

Hmm, every time I post in a thread you complain that my light joshing is nasty sarcasm. OK, have it your way. Because: humor is funny. It's a football message board, not a autopsy report; humor is appropriate. Also, pendantic whiners who (to sum this year up) say to eliminate the Pep Band, eliminate the Cheerleaders, eliminate opening the roof (even in December), eliminate tailgating (to make sure the seats are full at kickoff), take personal offense if anyone mentions David Carr in a less than reverent way, and throw a conniption fit if the Texans try to market the game experience anywhere other than the BullPen invite sarcasm and ridicule if they can't make a coherent point. Some of your posts are plenty nasty, but completely without humor, so at least you aren't sarcastic, you are just mean. When people respond thoughtfully to my points, I respond in kind. So give me something better to work with than that I am just a nasty sarcastic not classy Texans fan.

I don't mean to be lashing out but it seems some people are eager to ruin the gameday experience. I think I speak for the majority when I say: I like the Pep Band, the Cheerleaders, tailgating, an open roof in nice weather, and that anywhere you choose to buy your tickets is cool (but if you don't like your seats - don't whine!)

I don't think she was responding to you...at least I didn't read it that way. There was someone posting nasty sarcasm but they used the word "sarcasm" in their post.
 
What I really find interesting is how many people read/post in a thread that reads "Hey Fellow Bullpen Members" that don't actually stand in the Bull Pen.:shades:
 
Why is there seperation in the stands? Why doesn't everyone join together and just hate the cowboys and titans? Why isn't there someone driving around to tailgates and explaining to fans what to do during the game? Why do we have a lot of stupid fans? Why does the stadium toilet paper have to be so rough?

Who wants to stand in the bull pen anyway? I know that sun had to be a killer. Bull pen people...we come to watch the texans not the fans in the bullpen.

If you're cheering on the Texans at Reliant, you're part of the home field advantage. I started in the 600s, then the 500s, now I'm in the BullPen. My support for the team didn't increase when I got to the BullPen - it was there all along. Whatever section(s) something was started in doesn't matter to me. All that matters is the support for the Texans.

The fact that the FO and fans alike are promoting individual sections is a shame. The entire stadium “should” be one section. Cleveland has the “dog pound”, but there isn’t much of a drop off in the rest of the stadium. Is there a “special section” in Green Bay or is the entire stadium special? Is there a quiet section in Pittsburgh? Common theme between those three is that most of the crowd is there for the game/experience. Too many “wasted” seats go to those not interested in the game and are just there to “be there”. It’s a marketing backfire is you ask me. Selling the idea of doing something on the concourse other than purchasing or flushing away consumables anytime “during” a game is pathetic. The product is on the field and only on the field, try to promote that. I think we would all be happy if the entire stadium was loud and rowdy when the D was on the field, and after a play on offense.
 
There is little unity among fans of a team that has never sported a winning record in six seasons.

We start winning more than we lose, the place will fill up with TEXANS fans and I think there will be fewer divisions among the fan population.

Just to be sure, my disclaimer here is that I have absolutely no animosity towards any other Texans fans or sections. It matters not to me, and I'd love to sit anywhere in that stadium. Give me a chance to sit with the crazies in the Bull Pen, and I'm there. Otherwise, I'm happy being a goat herder, too. Just give me some good football!
 
I just wish I had stable employment (That doesn't work me on sundays) and stable housing arrangements so I could actually make it out to a game.
 
It's just a marketing ploy, why anyone gets all defensive about a tagline is beyond me.

I never really understood why the Texans try their best to splinter the stadium. I mean, having nicknames for areas in the stadium is cool. But to act like Bullpen is better than Gridiron or vice versa is just silly. It is just where people sit. If they are doing to do anything, they should just explain the strengths of each section. Bullpen puts you right at the end zone, Gridiron gives you a better view of the entire field and is a bit cheaper. What is wrong with that?
 
it would make sense to assume that people that post on this message board and go to the games are most likely the same "real fans" that are screaming when the D is on the field or have enough game smarts to realize to be quiet when the O is trying to run plays.

So realizing that, when some people claim to be "better fans" or their section is more loud than theirs is, it rubs these same "real fans" the wrong way. We all sit in different sections and each section has the rabid fans that scream the entire game and every section has the people that sit on their hands. It doesn't matter what section you sit in, you have each set of fans.

I sit in the SEZ and I can tell you that it gets VERY loud when the play is on our end and a little less loud when it is on the other end.

To say that one EZ is quiet is just silly. If you are screaming as loud as you can, can you really hear the other side? DB said it right, when the team starts winning consistently, we will get more of the loud Texans fans and we will then see the true homefield advantage.
 
I can hear the Bull Pen whenever the defense is on the feild. Funny though, I can never seem to hear a peep out of the SEZ unless we are doing the HOUSTON-------TEXANS chant before the game, and then it takes two or three warm ups before you hear the SEZ so I have dubbed it the Quiet Zone. You want me to change the way I see it then yall need to do something so I will. And as for the Goat Herders, I suppose yall do a good job of shaking the roof.

I admit this is a very small sample (one play and a small area) but I gotta ask....in a game where we beat a seemingly playoff bound team....on your side of the field.....in a game that we were underdogs....when our D is definitely on the field and we are sacking the QB.....where is the intensity from the fans in this pic? Which fans were actually cheering?? Which look as if they were asleep?

Hey I sit in Section 119, row J, and "I" am the homefield advantage! Anyone who loves this team and stands up and participates is the homefield advantage. We have a lot of screamers in our section and I want you to know, IT IS LOUD down low!
 
Hey Texans Fans.
I appreciate ALL fans who show up before the kick off, scream when our defense is on the field, and cheer our team.

I love the fact we have a rowdy section down in the north end zone, the Bull Pen, I think that is so cool.

We have sason tickets, have had them since year one, but we're alos on a budget, so tme up in Section 637.

That means we're bringing all we can to the game, and over the last 4 home games, our section is becoming sort of like the old upper balcony "griff's Army' from days gone by.

It's been a blast, getting loud and crazy is infectious, and I'll say this, that Thurs nite Bronco game was wild!

We found a great use for those aluminum Budwesier bottles, Bang those suckers together, great noise makers!

I'm so ready for 2008!

11-5 playoffs here we come!!!
