All Hail Super Mario!!!

The Around the Horn guys were still trying to discredit Mario's draft status last week and switched their pick from Bush (their unanimous pick after the draft...other than Michael Smith who picked Mario and practically got booed off the panel) to Young and claimed its not how they play on the field...its that the team needs star power LOL!!!

The Texans just sold out their 59th consecutive game and i've never seen the Houston crowd get behind any player in Texans history like they've gotten behind Mario since the New Orleans game after the bye week. Tonight everyone was chanting "MA-RI-O" everytime he got a sack or made a tackle and he literally got a standing ovation after the game from the fans when he left the field to chants of "MA-RI-O". If that's not star power WITH on-field results then I dont know what is!!!

Couple that with the fact he's 22 years old and is STILL learning how to properly rush the passer plus he's proven his toughness last season playing with plantar fasciitis over the last half of the season with pain so bad he couldn't even practice and had to take pain shots before every game and I am not trading Mario for Vince, Reggie, or whoever else the media claims should've went # 1 in 06 over the guy they labeled a bust before he played a down.

ALL HAIL SUPER MARIO!!!

PS: The coolest thing ever was hearing the Super Mario video game music played after his last solo sack.

Mario showed a lot tonight. For one of the first times I saw a flawless spin move out of Mario that almost got him a sack. I saw a great juke, stumble, and then he picked himself up to sack Cutler. He just looked in the zone. Just keep your head on straight Mario. Don't get full of yourself. :texflag:

Oh yeah and I watched that Around the Horn you are talking about. It was so dumb. At least Mariotti gave Smith props for predicting Mario Williams would be a good pick.

As far as this game goes, It wasn't just the recorded sacks that got my attention. Mario looked like he was a step away from 5 or 6 more. Cutler will have will be hearing that nintendo music in his sleep for several weeks. BTW Will Demps played his ass off tonight! I need to go to the Demps=Answer post to finish this....

The Around the Horn guys are as close as you can get to being mentally retarded without having an extra chromosome. Are they kidding me? "Star power?" How about results on the field? That show is complete garbage.

I questioned the pick. I thought we need a spark on offense and Busy was the way to go. My mind wasn't changed last season. But Mario has flipped the switch this year. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 3 1/2 sacks tonight?! If he doesn't get to go to the pro bowl, there's just something horribly wrong with the NFL.

I think we need to petition the Texans to wear all battle red every damn game. Super Mario needs his red overalls!

i will gratuitously take this opprotunity to point out that i was right about Mario Williams all along.

1st q when cutler threw deep (incomplete) to marshall, right? that was a pretty sweet move alright.. tried another one later but not as effective- i dont know about everyone else but i love watching our D play cos of mario- every snap i look for where he is pre-snap and follow him.. hows that for an 'unsexy' pick

We stopped by the Texans Shop in Budweiser Plaza last night when the game was over and bunches of people were buying blue overalls and big, puffy white gloves. I think you will see lots of fans in the stands at the next game dressed as Super Mario!! Kudos to whoever thought of stocking a Super Mario costume in the shop.:mario3:

Just wait until Mario starts getting the Calls he deserve.

They were holding him all night, even when they doubled him.

When we start getting those calls, and teams really start trying to compensate for him, Amobi, TJ, Cochran, Demeco are going to cause some real HAVOC.

They were holding him on his second sack, and it STILL didn't even matter.

Mario on the post game show was classic. Signing the praises of Jethro Franklin and Richard Smith, and blinding Deion with the diamonds in his ears.

All Hail Super Mario!!! Indeed.

I heard that on TV...I bet it would have been bada** to hear it in person.

I thought the Super Mario music was great.

It was a very fun night. The team is really looking up. To bad we have had all of the injuries and turnovers or we would be looking at a legit shot of making the playoffs.

I've been on board with the pick since day one. Doubts have crept up along the way, but I'm glad that he's proved us wrong.

Everyone who ever piled on should congratulate themselves now. We finally pissed him off enough to really break loose.

Very true. Now that Mario is getting press maybe they will finally call the holding that has been going on all season. He has caused a number of false starts because they can't hide those, but the holding has been almost criminal and uncalled.

The Debriefing had props for Mario and Texans Chick

Mario Williams. FanHouse's Stephanie Stradley sure picked a good time to go off on the media for their treatment of Mario Williams. Last night, on the first nationally televised game in Texans history, Williams racked up 3½ sacks on Jay Cutler (and did so while wearing stunning red pajamas), pushing his total on the year up to 13, just half-a-sack short of league leader Patrick Kerney.

Williams, despite some early struggles, has developed into a full-fledged stud at his position. Meanwhile, neither of the guys that the Texas were criticized for not taking, Reggie Bush and Vince Young, can say the same thing. Not yet, anyway.

Hindsight's 20/20 and everything, but ... the second-guessing might not be so easy to do if the initial criticism wasn't so harsh as well.

Sage Rosenfels has a decent game, and Andre Johnson was fantastic working underneath. The run game made all the difference in the world, too ... Ron Dayne and Darius Walker combined for 24 carries and 133 yards, while Selvin Young and Travis Henry managed just 18 carries for 61.

What is lame is that we've been on Sunday Night Football multiple times, which is clearly a nationally televised game (19-10 anyone?). These fools do not know what they are talking about. Hindsight is 20/20 for everyone.

i will gratuitously take this opprotunity to point out that i was right about Mario Williams all along.

Well I wasn't certain all long. I'm certianly bowing and scraping this morning. 299, 4.66 doesn't grow on trees is all I knew for fact. He's a stud. Ten more years to go. Might catch Michel Strahan. Gonna be fun to watch the race is all I know.

Before the last years draft I wanted us to take Vince or trade down. I knew I didn't want Bush and Mario wasn't even an option in my eyes. When they announced the Mario pick, I did some research and came to like the pick.

With Mario's slow start this year, I got real disgruntled and started to question the validity of picking Mario. I questioned Mario's desire to play the game. Mario wasn't firing off the ball hard, he had poor technique and really didn't show a lot of desire.

Since the start of the regular season until now, Mario has really turned things around. The guy looked like an animal out there. Firing off the line, hard charging and unstoppable.

Congrats to Mario, looking good!

Secret Challenge mode

Successfully complete the game. Start the cleared game file, then pause the game while at the world map and press L, R, L, R, X(2), Y(2). If you entered the code correctly, the message "Welcome to the Secret Challenge mode" will appear. Similar to the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES, Secret Challenge mode will not let you backtrack in certain levels. To indicate whether a level has a Secret Challenge version, the new right arrow icon will be lit in the top right corner of the map screen.

Kubiak went old school for Mario before the game

Rome just jumped on and said he really admires Mario and what he is doing after everyone, including himself, was just killing him. Good to hear national talk.

Not addressed to you in particular, but this is a classic example of why fans should not try to get in player's heads and make assumptions about desire or heart. Mario has just gone through the game slowing down process. Instead of thinking about what the coaches want him to do he is now deciding what to do.

maybe he meant marios first game on primetime with the texans?

i was kinda the same.. i always supported it but had my little doubts now and again.. love watching our D because of him now though (not to mention meco and co):d:

LMAO!! Jim Rome is talking about Mario and said "Mario was hounding Jay Cutler, like he owed him money"

"Class act, great player"

Rome just gave a shout out to Mario again and and said "Speaking for the entire world, sorry we villified you" and made you out to be horrible before you stepped up on the field. He is playing like a faster Dwight Freeney. AND he is playing better than Bush and VY. Despite all the heat he has never lashed out or demanded an apology. You are a beast on the field and a class act off..............

Mario Williams said:
(on how it felt to hear the crowd chanting his name during the fourth quarter) “That was awesome! It was amazing to hear my name being said like that right behind our bench. One thing that was big was after that third sack, I don’t know if any of you noticed, but I heard the Super Mario music. I got crunk off of that. I appreciate whoever did that. I heard that music. It was just all amazing!”

Bwahahahahahahaha!

Remember the welcome Mario avatar you made Jerek?

Hilarious! Funny too how that rumor of it being all about signability didn't really start to die off until Reggie started sucking so much.

Though I can't claim omniscience, because I went back and forth on Reggie for quite awhile (anywhere from would suck completely to being a junior Brian Westbrook just not #1 caliber player) and at least at the time of that thread being written, he has sucked a lot more than I stated he would. I was also wrong about Carr making it in this league. Oh well.:cowboy1:

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, with Mario and Okyea we have the basics to build one of the greatest defensive lines since Pittsburg's Steel Curtain. Really.

I'm doing my part...

I admit that I was in Camp Reggie %100. Even earlier this season I was still whining about it. Never has it felt so good to be so wrong.

This Crow tastes excellent...

Quoted for truth. I see Mario getting held all the time and it makes me furious because we never get those calls. Hopefully we start getting a few bones thrown to us there.

I love the Super Mario music when Mario gets a sack, great idea.

Watching Mario last night, he's not as quick as a Peppers or a Freeney, but he's not too far behind and he plays with much more power than either of them. If he can keep building on his game he has the physical skills to be a hell of a DE against the run and the pass for a very long time.

just discussed him again on PTI.

Today, the quote of the segment was the quote "from draft bust, to Hall of Fame Bust"

These guys are going to hurt themselves if they keep backpedaling on their premature assesment of Mario.

LOL. I agree. I'm really happy to see Mario finally starting to show what he can do. But now that he's shown us, let's see what he does to Indy next week. If he can sack Manning a couple of times, then onward to the Mario alter.

I think it's really unfair of all of us to be judging the "Big Three" from last year so soon. All three of them need a few more years before we start labeling them. Even so, I'm guilty as hell of that anyway.

Mario had a special game last night, but it takes more than one to make a special career.

Count me in as one of the early adopters of Mario.

My hatred of ESPiN grows by the day. How they could possibly label Mario a "draft bust" when the dude hasn't even played two seasons is beyond me. (I feel the same about VY and Bush, even though I've never been fans if either player. It's just too soon to label them anything at this point.)

I'm so glad that Marrio is stuffing a sock into the talking heads' pie-holes. It is evident that most of these guys lack any ability to evaluate players and project solid predictions of the future. They are nothing but a pack of bleating sheep that just react to the obvious.
