Bust Miami in the Mouth

I hope the Texans get at least 175 yds. on the ground...That would be great seeing Dom with that "look" on his face again, and ya'll know it all way too well...

You know, I'm thinking if things are good, it would be closer to 110.

I just put Jamal Lewis on the bench as one of my fantasy running backs because the Browns are playing at New England and have activated Ron Dayne this week. I hope it pays off.

Who knows what lurks in the mind of the Kubiak regarding his backs?

Ahman could possibly play.

Or maybe more Gado.

I am guessing Dayne will play, but gee, I want him no where near the goal line. I would give him boring breather yards. But maybe it is going to be the Dayne train, like the 2006 Colts 2nd game.

I think it might be impossible for Dayne to get 175 yards. I dont know if he can run that far in that amount of time.

Ill just be happy with a win

The Bull Pen could alternate with pork chops and veggies.

Need a touchdown in the BP side of the building, hold up pork chops.

Need him to run quickly in the other direction, hold up carrots.

Simple.

If we don't win in a very significant fashion, coaches need to take a time out and re-evaluate what they are doing. Injuries or not we should beat Miami just as we should have beat Atlanta. Color it any way you choose, those games should be Ws.

How do you figure it?

The Texans are a very good team with all its playmakers and a belowish average team without them. Why do you think the Texans should be able to crush other teams with a combo of Dayne, Gado and Cook? Have you seen Ronnie Brown's all purpose numbers this year?

The Texans defense has some good players, but it also has serious problems in the secondary. Do you think Trent Green is far worse than Joey Harrington? Green's road stats this season are not bad.

And Miami is getting Zach Thomas back. Imagine what the Texans defense would look like with no DeMeco. If Miami's defense just plays average, they have a good chance of winning.

The Texans special teams has far exceeded the ability of the rest of the team and has in some ways bailed them out. But with no Jacoby and no Mathis, it is harder to keep doing the bailing.

A lot of Texans fans think this is going to be a Houston stompfest. And who knows, it could be. But if the game is close and ugly like it is likely to be, it could take the fans out of the game and the crowd could become unpleasant.

Miami's passing D being ranked 2nd (on the basis of yards per game) is a good example of a misleading stat. They have only faced 21 attempts per game--NFL average, 33. The completion % allowed is very good at 54% but has to be tempered with the fact that it is brought down by Culpepper at 41.6% and Romo at 48%. A short passer, Pennington was an effective 68% against them. Schaub has exceeded the average completion percentage of every team he has faced so far. The average per play is right at mid league--7.2 yards. They are tied for 10th worst in the league for passing TD's given up. They are at 8th worst at getting INT's, and opposing QB's have put up an 8th worst in the league (for the D) 91.7 QB rating.

So can the same be said about the Texans rushing D? They have not been run on as much at 23.5 attempts per game vs. the league average of 27, but the Texans are tied for 3rd best yards per attempt at 3.4 and for 9th in the league in rushing TD's allowed (Miami is tied for 31st in rushing TD's allowed by the way). The Texans are also 5th in the league for percentage of runs resulting in 1st downs at 17.1%. The Texans are also one of five teams who have not given up a rushing play over 20 yards.

I'm just waiting for Amobi to get some goal line carries, ala the Fridge..!
I'm mostly joking, but he might end up being the best goal line back on the roster!

Very nice...As long as we're funning around, I'd like to see Winston line up as a TE. Little dump pass and let him galumph for some crucial short yardage.

There were serious holes on the team. Those holes were pointed out and argued over from Febuary untill August. If you haven't figured it out yet that's on you. They just inserted the same guy they had starting the first nine (?) games in '06. The result of those games were not good. We're crippled in the skill positions and the center spot just took a significant hit.

Significant or not, it'll have to be a total team effort . And they have to start at the opening kick off. If they wait untill they are "warmed up" again, the only significants will be the different kinds of trouble we'll be in. The coaches need to do a better job of coaching. And the players need to bring a different attitude at kick off. We'll know about how much Flanagan has left in the tank after this game.

Ah did something just change here or does Taylor play Left DE ?

Key matchup
Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor vs. Texans left tackle Eric Winston. Throughout their brief six-year franchise history, the Texans have had several issues preventing them from making the playoffs. Possibly the most glaring factor has been the team's inability to protect its quarterback. Now with a more mobile Matt Schaub at the helm, Houston has improved in that category. The Texans have allowed only six sacks in four games this year. In order for that to continue, Winston must keep Taylor, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, from taking down Schaub and disrupting his timing. For his part, Taylor has to improve on his total of one sack this season if the Dolphins are to have any chance of getting their first win.

Yeah, Jason Taylor is a LE.

I get a bad feeling that we are going to lose this game. Ronnie Brown is starting to run the ball like LT (Dolphins head coach is LT's coach last year) and the Dolphins are 0-4 and playing for pride. After 4 games a new coach and new system are starting to set in....just don't think this will be an easy win if a win at all. We are still pretty beat up.

I know that your intent is to express the truth as you see it, but can't we clear the air of all things negative..?
Can message boards be affected by feng shui???

"Feng shui is related to the very sensible notion that living with rather than against nature benefits both humans and our environment. It is also related to the equally sensible notion that our lives are deeply affected by our physical and emotional environs. If we surround ourselves with symbols of death, contempt, and indifference toward life and nature, with noise and various forms of ugliness, we will corrupt ourselves in the process. If we surround ourselves with beauty, gentleness, kindness, sympathy, music, and with various expressions of the sweetness of life, we ennoble ourselves as well as our environment."

Ahhh, screw it... who wants pie?!?!

(Not that I have enough rep to matter)

just speaking my gut feelings...you know that the Texans will let the Dolphins dictate who covers their best WR...we are too passive in this regard and Chambers will likely light up Faggins or Fletcher or anyone else not named Dunta Robinson.

Booker still #2 over there? Petey might be able to stay with him...

sure, but if you let the Dolphins dictate the matchup how will that matter?

I suppose not, but maybe we'll see a different strategy this week (fingers crossed).
Who knows, maybe Petey will throw them a curve ball, and actually try to jam someone at the line...
the Fins might have to call a time out if he lines up less than 8 yards from his man. Trent Green would have the biggest WTF? look on his face we've seen since DC left town...

you know sometimes your a scarey dude Vinny :tinfoil: your gut feelings are usually pretty accurate.

the one thing I do know this team needs its fan base to show up & make some noise & not cower away or bother to show up because they don't want to experience a lose to Miami. I'm not saying your not going but I imagine some who are & this is the time the Texans need a shot in the arm & we're all behind them thick or thin. Lets go out there, make some noise & REFUSE TO LET THEM LOSE, WHO'S WITH ME :fans:

for the record, I think we win...but I'm not sold this is one of those easy victories that some are thinking. We are way too passive when it comes to how we cover people and Ronnie Brown is running like a man possessed. If we don't get any pressure it's gonna be a long day.

I think Gado is a better option to start and let Dayne spell him if Green can't go. At this point what do we got to lose? Unless the O-Line can run-block better than last week that is.

The Texans will not play with the Phins.

They were burned last week and it will not happen at home. The Fins will have a hard time with false starts.

Dayne has looked bad but Gado has looked awful. I don't know how Gado made the team other than to save face for the Morency trade.

Hard to argue that, they both have looked bad, I guess I am just hoping Gado has more upside/youth/speed and can turn it around. Besides the one cut back Dayne made last week on the long run play, I haven't see much from him. If the line can block a LOT better then Dayne can have a decent day.

Like some others on this thread have said I'm anxious about this game, but then I'm always that way when it comes to Texans games.
The thing is I'm better going against a 0-4 team instead of, oh I dunno, a 4-0 team like the Pats.

Ahhh, screw it... who wants pie?!?!

mmmmmmmm, pie good. :pirate: slice me a piece!

I'm feeling that way about all of our games this year. My buddy tries to convince me that we should expect to win every week, but I just don't think we have that kind of team on our hands. The best I can do is hope for a win and root accordingly. Setting expectations too high just sets yourself up for a long fall, IMO.

Yeah, I agree and it's pissing me off... Vinny, tell your gut to toe the line, and expect Texans DOMINATION!!!!!

...errr, and I'll give it pie...

...

Sue me, i had a few cocktails for happy hour, and pie sounds awful good at the moment..!

After last weeks game I'm trying to not be too confident. Its more of a guarded optimism . I think we will pull it out , it might just be a closer game than I am expecting , or should I say hoping for . :texflag:

Generally, my dessert philosophy is that if it doesn't have chocolate in it, it ain't worth the calories but a really good key lime pie breaks that rule. So does Goode Company's pecan pie.

I really don't have anything to add to this thread other than I want this header to go to the top again because saying "Bust Miami in the Mouth" can't be said enough.

If the defense can't bring it at home with authority against Miami, who are they going to bust in the mouth?

Kinda strange we had no Dolphin fans this week....I guess it's hard to motivate yourself to get out to other forums when you are o-fer

If our defense does not rise to the challenge in front of a rabid hometown crowd begging for a winning record, they are worthless, IMO.

That thud sound in the Forum is from the gauntlet that was thrown down.

I think if we could get Technoviking to dance at halftime, everyone would get emotionally charged.
