Wednesday PM practice complaints...

I don't know if this is the appropriate forum so feel free to move this into the appropriate forum.

I currently live in Austin and an extremely generous poster on this board sent me a total of 2 tickets to 2 practices. I was not able to attend the first set because of work but I made sure that I was able to attend this one (August 15th PM).

I'm Deaf but I'm one of the biggest Houston Texans fans that one will ever approach. I just graduated from college and was FINALLY financially able to consider acquiring Texans season tickets at the end of the season last year. I registered myself as a candidate for purchasing season tickets.

I've not gotten a single response from the Texans in all of this time. I started to make inquiries but have been shut out because I'm 'required' to provide a telephone number in order to be a successful callback on the waiting list for season tickets. Well... I'm Deaf. I have no use for a telephone. Why would I need one? I can't even answer it!

I approached Texans_chick as well as Megan from the Chronicle for assistance but both were unsuccessful. Believe me, Stephanie and Megan went the extra mile but I always get deadlocked with the Texans front office.

Last season, I got tickets to a practice and went to it only to find out that practice was cancelled AFTER waiting in line for HOURS. I waited in line for over three hours only to be met with hostility from the employees who were running the admission section of the practice. I went home after standing in line well over two hours after practice was supposed to start BEFORE I was finally told to leave the grounds. When I realized that they were forcibly asking me to leave, I asked them to get a pen and paper and tell me what they were trying to tell me. The gatekeeper only got more and more agitated and was unwilling to take the time to write down what he was saying...

Kris Brown was leaving at the time and he noticed that I was trying to communicate with the attendant and the police officer and he intervened and acted as an interpreter (THE GUY KNOWS SIGN LANGUAGE!!! HE USED TO VOLUNTEER AT THE PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF!! WOW!!! I LOOOOOVVVVEEE CHRIS NOW although I think he's being overpaid. Heh!). He told me that pratice was cancelled two hours ago and all that. I went home unhappy but not angry. It's not their fault that I can't hear but it IS their fault that they would not meet me halfway and at least try and make this a SMUDGE easier for me rather than just trying to shoo me away.

I was afraid that this was going to happen once again with Wednesday's practice but being the loyal fan that I am... I made the drive from Austin and attended the practice. Now... I tremenously enjoyed watching the practice but I still had some severe problems that just made my evening miserable.

I arrived at 6:10 and got into line along with my boy and girlfriend (the parking attendant gave us an extra ticket for her which elated us!!). We waited in line so early because I had read on this site that you guys suggest that we attend early in order to obtain autographs. I took that to mean that we get our autographs PRIOR to the practice. They let us in at 7:15 but no autographs. I assumed that we had to wait in line so I immediately waited in line at the autograph section during most of the practice...

My boy who is five years old and Deaf went to the kid's zone and waited in line for quite some time for some of their kid's events. When it was his turn to run through the defense (blow up thingie. Moonwalk?), he was told that he could not go through so we took him to a different moonwalk because we thought that the attendant was telling us that he was too young to run that particular moonwalk. That was not the case. We waited in line for quite some time for the moonwalk that was at the END of all of the booths. It was now approaching the end of the Texans practice... it was FINALLY his turn to carry the football through the labrinyth of the moonwalk before this attendant FINALLY told us that we had to sign a waiver and obtain a wristband before he could particpate in the kids zone. We were frustrated but we did what we were told. The problem was that practice was over by then! They started to take the moonwalks down! He was extremely disappointed.

This is where it gets worse... I'd been standing in line for an autograph this whole time and was near the front of the line. They started to allow people into the line for autographs only to deny me entry because the only people that could get autographs were the first 100 fans.

What the heck?!? What I don't understand is why couldn't they have at least communicated with me? Put up a sign or something? We drove all the way here from Austin just to wait in line for nothing. We went home emptyhanded and unhappy.

On the plus side, I went to the Texans booth where they had their season tickets sales representative standing by and one heard my plight and he took my email address and he ACTUALLY contacted me today and was able to get some season tickets together for me. I have not purchased them just yet because I'm actually angry at the Houston Texans right now.

I'm a great fan and I just kept getting rejected over and over. I spent money as well as made my five year old sit in a car for a LONG time. This is what I don't understand about them. I'm N O T asking for special treatment. That's the last thing I want. I don't understand why that I'm such a burden on them (which is the attitude that I've gotten thus far). Putting up a sign would not only solve MY problems but EVERYONE's problems.

The kicker of all of this is that when we finally realized that we weren't getting what we thought that we were getting, we left and walked by the air inflated Texans helmet which was the entrance to the seats, my little boy was knocked down by some older kids (15-18) because they were roughhousing. When I told them to settle down and that they had knocked my kid down, they threatened me and tried to coax me into a fight.

*sigh*

I just wanna watch football.

I'm angry at the Houston Texans right now and just wanted to vent in this thread. I don't want special treatment. I just want to enjoy what you guys enjoy. This sucks.

Much obliged! I'm NOT looking for sympathy. I'm just hoping that someone from the Texans sees this and at least just make amends. See, having signs posted does not just benefit me but EVERYONE! Again, I don't want sympathy. I just want them to do the right thing.

I do know that I won't be attending anymore practices.

That being said... I'll tell you who looked good! Jerome Mathis! He was spectacular! Ahman Green looked absolutely wonderful as well! I wish they had worn full pads but it's okay. I loved seeing them in person despite how short it was and my difficulties.

One thing... don't feel for me. I just want them to fix the problem. No special treatment required. I'm Deaf and PROUD to be Deaf. I just want to be a Houston Texans fan most of all.

GO TEXANS!!!

alright and dont take it out on the texans! try to go to as much stuff as possible!

Let me make this clear...

Megan responded to me not once but TWICE! Nothing came out of it but I do sincerely believe that she tried the best she could in order to meet my needs.

Texans_chick AKA Stephanie also went the extra mile and tried to provide me with information. The problem with it was that it was an obvious 'form letter' response from the Texans.

Both of you girls..... I sincerely believe that you both tried the best you could. I'm definitely extremely grateful that you guys responded to me.

Thanks!!!

WOW....is all I can say. Sorry to hear about your misfortunate series of events. Seems more like a run of bad luck than the norm of how things are operated, atleast I would hope so. I haven't gone to a practice yet, but I hope to maybe next season, si I can't tell you if they are all like that or not. Try not to let these few idiots that were not cooperative ruin your passion to see it in person or creat disdain for the franchise. Good luck in getting the tickets you wanted.

I appreciate your response in this thread. Here's the email that I recieved from the sales representative....
Hi Michael,
Thanks for coming to training camp last night; it was definitely a pleasure to meet you and your family. First I want to apologize for our department not getting back to you sooner. But the great news is that I can help you with your options and I think you will really enjoy them.

You asked before about PSl’s and Non-PSL’s and what the difference is. When the stadium opened, the NFL and the City of Houston implemented a program called Permanent Seat Licenses in order to finance the cost of the stadium. So for about 75% of the seat inventory there are PSL stipulations.

It means that you own your seats for as long as you keep paying for your season tickets. It is a one time fee per seat and you own your seats, so you have the ability to sell your PSL to someone else. If the Price of the PSL increases (which it always will) you can sell it for that price and make a PROFIT. You have the right to re-new your seats every year or you can up-grade and move to a new location if it is available. Basically, if people want to sit closer to the action, they have to pay for it with PSL’s.

We have non- PSL’s left available and you still have the right to buy the same seats year after year or up grade if you want to.

You requested 3 seats together in Non-PSL seats. I have saved you a couple of different sets of 3 seats for you to look at. Because we are almost sold out, they aren’t on the front rows, but I did go through and I tried to find you the best 3 seats.

What I have for you is in Sec. 632, Row R, seats 25-27. Or Sec. 638, Row M, seats 4-6. Or I have Sec. 637 Row P, seats 17-19. Those are the lowest and closest to the 50 yard line I can get for you.

The best idea for now is to become a season ticket holder! Then in January when we call you, we will ask if you want the same seats or if you want to move. At that time we will have better seats available to put you in. But you won’t have this opportunity if you wait until next year to buy your seats. We will not begin to sell to the general public until April, so you will miss out on the seats that Season ticket holders have access to for over a 4 month period and therefore not get exactly what you want.

If you can respond so that I know what you think of the options I would greatly appreciate it. We have some really exciting games this year with the Saints, Colts, and Titans for starters and I want ya’ll to be apart of the excitement. Get back to me so that we can make you apart of the RED, WHITE and BLUE NATION!!! My contact information is below.

Thanks Michael and Best Regards,

Now. I don't care about getting extras but this response appears to be as in the form of a 'form letter' which I consider to be a 'standard' response from the Houston Texans.

Regardless, it IS a response. My first in over six months. I'll take it at this juncture. I have ABSOLUTELY NO idea what this is going to cost me but I could care less. I just want to watch my beloved Houston Texans no matter how bad they may be.

GO TEXANS!!!!

Well, that's a good response. He took the time to write you back and it seemed a little more than the standard mumbo-jumbo to me IMHO.

Well, that is a depressing story, I must say. I'm terribly sorry this has happened - the Texans need to be:whip: for their behavior. Not that I think it will do any good, but I will email them about their treatment of fans who are deaf. That really is inexcusable.

I've given tickets to two different sets of folks who were very obviously physically challenged and the Texans were more than wonderful - even took them from the parking lot to the stadium and their seats in the little golf cart. Then picked them up at the end of the game. Perhaps you need to wear a sign that says, "I'm Deaf.":) or carry a cane/crutches to be used when you need some help.

I hope you do get some tickets. As to cost.... http://assets.houstontexans.com/assets/tickets/07PriceGuide_Season_r6x.pdf

Congratulations on your college graduation!:doot: Good luck and let us know if you get some season tickets.

Nitro,

I received this email back from the Houston Texans:

Dear Bill,

Thank you for your email and support of the Houston Texans! We appreciate this email and we will be contacting him to solve this problem. Thank you and have a great day!

Go Texans!

The FO has usually been super responsive. I'm shocked he said "I want tickets" and didn't get 500 e-mails. I have tickets and can't convince them I should no longer be on the wait list e-mail list, lol.

This seems like the person actually responded to you and your concerns...even went as far as putting tickets aside for you and telling you where they were...That is a major step for a professional football team...When I was trying to get PSL's I never got that type of detailed response.

Nitro! I am SOOO sorry your kid was disappointed! It is totally unexcusable for any child to be treated poorly, and have them leave disappointed. I had the same experience with my grandson when he was 9 y/o. The boy stood in line almost three hours to get David Carr's autograph, this was our second season. When they opened the gates, they allowed all the adults to just run him over, and didn't seem to care at all that a little boy was getting pushed around. They refused to let him in DCs line and he ended up with NO autographs at all. I complained on this board, just as you have, and you know who I got a response from? None other than David Carr and his Mother. David sent my grandson an autographed pic and arranged to meet him after one of the other practices, and he kept his promise.

Don't stay disappointed! You came to the right place to vent your frustrations! There are a lot of people who read this board who never post anything. Somehow or another, the word gets out, and your problem will be taken care of. The TEXANS have always been very fan friendly, and I would be surprised if they don't try to correct the problem.

Not to turn this into a DC thread but ... That is one thing I truely love about the Texans as an organization. For the most part, if not all of it, it has been one class act from top to bottom. When I say that I am not talking on the field decisions (so don't even go there foks). I am talking off the field and trying the best they can to make sure the fans are happy.

SheTexan, my only concern is that TexanTalk is not apart of the company board it is a private board, unlike the old fan board I was apart of (not the original TexanTalk). I hope that the powers that be will see this.

I have to say I agree with this. They get a lot of people contacting them about a lot of stuff, but they really do want to do the right thing, even if they don't always do it.

I wish I would have talked to you before you went. Training camp I think is really good for watching the players, but not so good for getting autographs.

I agree 100%. It was also very, very cool for YKW to do that. I've never been a big fan of autographs, but my son loves it. He's got almost every Texan from last years team and this years Astro's team. I think he likes to see the players up close and personal more than the signature.

I think they have an idea which is the better board. I mean, they did make an attempt to change the other one.:texflag:

Nitro, I took the liberty of forwarding your original post to: fanfeedback@houstontexans.com

We'll see if they respond.

I did the same thing and got about the same response. I have a feeling they will do something since more than one of us are showing them the error of their ways. The Texans organization is made up of good folks, for the most part, who do everything they can to help the fans have a good experience.

Training camp I think is really good for watching the players, but not so good for getting autographs.

That hasn't been my experience at all.

What I saw this year were people scoring autographs left and right before and after every practice session - while standing next to the walkway through the 'fan zone' between the Kirby bridge and Practice Field 1.

From what I witnessed, that offered a much better opportunity to get autographs than going through the chaos, waiting, and general rigamarole of the 'first 100' process to secure a guaranteed autograph from whatever players were on duty that night.

Before one of the practices I was standing at the walkway next to a woman and her son who had a football. They wanted autographs but she didn't know any of the players so I told her their names as they came down the steps- and she and her son called out their names as the players walked by. The kid ended up with Samkon Gado, Kris Brown, Jacoby Jones, Petey Faggins, and Joe Marciano's name on that ball.

After the last practice Wednesday night, practically the entire team signed along the sideline and north endzone. This went on for a long time and players worked their way down the fence and I saw people with at least a half-dozen autographs on their footballs. This was the second year in a row they've done that.

I don't care about autographs but I enjoy watching, mainly to put faces to names and numbers of the new players.

Knowing the routine helps so yes, it's impossible for someone coming in for the first time to know what's going on. I made a couple of 'advice' posts on this before camp started for people who were wondering about autographs. I can't remember if it was here or on ht.com.

I've gotten an email from Holly Schweitzer, the Events Service coordinator. She read the message board and saw my post. The Texans have made contact so it looks good at this juncture. Let's see what we can get out of this. I'm holding out hope!

Dear Michael,
We have read your postings on the message board and we appreciate your feedback regarding Training Camp as well as Season Tickets. We are looking at the current placement of our signage at Training Camp and evaluating the locations. One of our ticket representatives will be in contact with you regarding season tickets for this year. If you decide to attend the games this season we offer Assisting Listening Devices. They are available and provided complimentary by Reliant Park at each Guest Services booth within Reliant Stadium with a minimum one week notice. A driver's license or credit card is required as a security deposit for use of these devices. Guests needing such devices should visit the Guest Services booth and speak with a Guest Services Representative.
We do appreciate your feedback and are constantly focused on making the game experience the best it can be. Please let us know if you have any questions or additional feedback as we examine every suggestion in detail.

See, there are well over 25 million people in the US who have hearing loss. There are only about 650,000 Deaf people in the US which makes us one of the smallest minority of the minority groups out there. What most people don't understand is that my case isn't that I have some hearing loss. I have total hearing loss therefore I'm not hard of hearing. I'm Deaf. It's easy to make that mistake so I can understand that. Those assistive devices do me no good. I basically got this same response from Texans_chick when she tried to help me out a couple of months ago.

Blake Steadman has gone the extra mile and began text messaging me today and yesterday and he's doing a GREAT job and I feel so much better. He definitely deserves a pat on his back for doing such a good job. I have not replied to him just yet. Like I said, I'm still steaming from what happened at practice the other day. I just need a few days to get over it before I start moving forward and give Bob McNair my money. I also want some advice from the fans on the locations of these seats. Are they in the sun?

Sections 632,638,637...

I've sat in that general area, but the roof was always closed when I did, so I am of no help here. I am bumping this so maybe someone will notice and know the answer.:user:

I sit in 631...have since the beginning. It is not in the sun except for maybe late afternoon games. Even then...its only for a short period of time.

Folks,
I've received a barrage of emails from the brass at the Houston Texans as well as John McClain himself from the Chronicle. My family has been invited to the game to view seating options before purchasing my season tickets and will receiving some merchanise from the Texans. I don't know what but I'm just feeling really important right now. In fact, I may be feeling a little TOO important. I didn't want extras. I just wanted a little bit of an effort from the Texans. Well, they're giving me effort and EXCEEDING that effort right now. I'm just near tears right now but I can proudly say that I've never been prouder to be a Houston Texan fan right now.

Please give props to Blake Steadman in ticket sales and Anna-Megan for taking the initiative to try and make this work. Especially Blake. He's definitely getting credit for this sale!

HOUSTON TEXANS!!

Thanks to all who sent emails out. Y'all arrested their attention and they're now devoting it to me and my family.

Hey Nitro,

Just read this thread and was quite suprised as is every one who knows the Texans. It would be my understanding that your excitement you have now should have started at the first practice. Anyway it is wonderful that your getting the attention you need and if you need anymore help just ask, its not the Texans in general but probably who you talked to.
I would like to personally invite you and your family to come out to the platinum Lot Space B-2 and enjoe a day of tailgating with the Blue Crew. You will be able to place a lot of faces with names and you and your family will have a wonderful time. For your info we start at 7am and carry on till dark after the game. It would be an honor to have you come by and visit or just stay with the blue crew. The most important thing is though, Your A Texan.
Cause I'm A Texan and Texans take care of Texans.

Hey Nitro. My dad and I, who have had season tickets from season 1, just upgraded our seats. We used to be in 629 I believe but we upgraded a few sections over. I'm not sure where yet, but I'll find out on Saturday when I go to the Cowboys game. You may be fairly close to me and it'd be cool to meet you!

7AM? The game starts at 7pm? I thought they didn't open until four hours prior?

Nitro,

I think the Platinum lot opens at 2 PM this weekend for the Cowboy game. The 7AM that Joe was referring to the 'normal' season tailgate times...

I am sorry I am on regular season already

The lot opens 5 hours before kickoff and we are there promptly. If you do not have a platinum parking pass then you will need some help with how to get there. I believe there is a map showing the Blue crew spot on this board somewhere. I will find out for you. You can arrive at any time as we are just crazy about tailgating. If the game is at 7 then the lot opens at 2. If you go to the cryboys Texans tailgate thread you will see we are planning this week.

Feel free to chime in and ask questions or do whatever you need to get the info you need. It will be a pleasure to meet you and congratulations on getting your tickets. By the way the PSL to me just means that I own a little bit of the team or the seat or something.

I met Joe at the Bears game, you could not have a better offer from a nicer group of tailgaters.

Also would like to add that I am glad you are getting things taken care of and they are doing right by you.

Hope to see you there. We're the NW corner of the Platinum Lot (Westridge and Kirby). People get confused because our tailgate is split into 4/5 different tents all catty-corner from each other. Essentially, we' ALL (or the only) tailgaters in that corner of the lot.

:)

And yes, starts at 2 PM Saturday, lol. Joe meant we start at 7 Am for noon games.

I view this message board all the time but don't usually post much. I have to say the response from everyone here regarding Nitro's situation is awesome. You guy's represent the best of Texans fans and just Texans in general. I am proud to call myself a Texan/Texan Fan for the simple reason of the kind of people it associates me with.

Corny I know, but sincere.

Nitro I hope you and you family enjoy a winning season for years to come.

Mike

I know this is an old thread but I have my reasons for bumping it. It has to do with recognizing the efforts of the Houston Texans and their sign placement at All-Access.

I have not gone to a single practice and only two games since that fateful weekend 2 years ago at that practice. Well, I decided to take the opportunity to attend all access this season and try to forget about the shortcomings of the past.

For two weeks, I'd been building up excitement. Man, I could NOT wait! Alas it was difficult to forget the past... I had a smile that just slowly turned into a frown over the course of 180 miles (I'm an Austin guy). I found myself walking towards Reliant stadium getting angrier and intent on finding everything that will go wrong. I was flaming mad by the time I reached the ticket guy. I remember telling my brother, you just bleeping watch... My foot was throbbing. I had just broken my pinkie toe not an hour or two before the event. I was LIVID and GRUMPY and hurting like hell. I was ready to snarl at any Texans official, Amarak and all. Every employee was targeted. My fury was going to be enormous!

The first was the big dude at the gate scanning tickets. I knew he was going to make me throw a makeshift walking stick away. I told my brother... you watch... The attendant asked me if I needed extra assistance getting around the stadium. Whoa... okay. I said to Ron... you watch. The reason why it was so important for you to go with me is so he could listen for announcements or whatever. Info basically.

I didn't need him afterall! The sign placement in that place was leaps and bounds better than it was two years ago. I felt completely independent at All-Access. I don't think I once had to ask my brother... what's going on? What did they say? Yadada. None of that. Amazing sign placement. Amazing! It's important that people realize that if there's a problem... the Texans are on it.

Amazing organization. A significant portion of my future earnings will go to the Houston Texans. I am absolutely sold. Amazing... I'm one happy disabled fan who felt just as much in the loop as everyone else. I didn't feel disabled. I felt normal at a Texans game for the first time. Thank you, Texans... Amazing first class organization...

More than anything... I wanted the Texans to know their efforts did not go unnoticed. In fact, it was life-changing... Small stuff matter.

Great post and good seeing you there Nitro. BTW, how'd you break your toe just an hour before the event? I hope it gets better I know that must have been tough.

I fell at work and broke my pinkie toe in three places. Just a freak accident is all. No biggie. I'm walking on it fairly ok now. Tender more than anything else.

Nitro That invite is lifetime
We will take you up on that. We never made it that time. I don't know what exactly happened but probably had more to do with us wanting to get in the stadium when the doors open. We like watching the warmups and whatnot. Getting us in our seats by kickoff isn't really a problem. It was a great day that day. Loads of fun!

Our parking passes are in the yellow lot so I'm not sure how difficult it'll be to head on over to the blue from yellow but we'll make the trek at least once. We'd like to learn about setting up a good tailgate. I've got a vehicle idea that I'd like to make a reality but need to scan the tailgates and ensure my idea remains unique!
