did anybody catch this interview? was there anything of substance? was there anything that wasn't of substance but would still warrant mentioning for those of us who are so football deprived that anything is news?

I caught the last few minutes of it, and nothing of note was said. He was asked a bunch of questions by Carl Dukes, all of which has been discussed, re-hashed, beaten to death, and then resurrected here on the boards. He's a leader, the offense is going to be better this year, he's excited to be here because the talent level is so high, the offensive line is great, Ahman Green loves to block and pick up blitzers, et al.

*sigh* ...... August needs to arrive soon.

Well, it's officially June so.... we are getting closer to August. Don't forget... on the 12th is the NFLN coverage of the Texans Mini Camp. :doot:

I heard the last part of it, too, where Schaub was talking about protection. I like his interviews, because he really talks about the X's & O's of football.

He said protection goes beyond just the line, and is also the responsibility of the backs, TE, and WRs, as well. More importantly, the QB has the biggest roll, simply because he needs to recognize threats and make adjustments accordingly, and specifically, don't set up the o-line to fail. He added that once protection does break down, the QB's job is to get rid of the ball with intelligent decisions.

All in all, the little that I heard makes me even more confident that MS is going to be a good QB for us. While I'm not certain how much FUN he's having, I am certain that he is dedicated to the game and has a deep understanding and desire to learn as much as he can to translate on the field.

Did you think that he was trying to cover for his guys after some of the things that were said ?

Could be...but I get more of the feeling that he's talking from a leader's perspective of trying to explain the game and the how/why things happen.

Being new to the team, I think he's free from worrying about the past, simply because he's not a part of it. His interviews are great for this football fan, because he gives you insight and straight up football talk. There is nothing about emotional issues or it just being a game. He seems like a QB that really has a focus on winning being all that matters, and the only way to achieve that objective is deep study and hardcore practice. Schaub is all business in the stuff I've heard and read about him.

I love having fun.

That sounds familar....:gun:

He must have read the David Carr threads. No, I don't think he has been here long enough to do that.

Over the course of the past few seasons I think All of the positions above had as much to do with the break downs in pass protection as did the O-line . When was the last time you saw a Texans reciever break off a route and come back to the ball to give the QB a target ? How many times did the backs miss blitz assignments ? How many times did the QB sack himself (UGH !)?

The one stat I would love to see...how many times did the QB sack himself by running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage?

No doubt, but at least this time I was hearing it from our QB and not the forum. :victory:

Yep, and that's on coaching, IMO. I think Kubiak's plan of protecting the QB makes it the responsibility of the entire offense and not just the line.

I think the addition of Green, a self professed blitz defender, will have a great effect on the rest of our young RBs. Hopefully his work ethic and attention to picking up the blitz rubs off on everyone else.

They're both ESPN stations.

790 was an ESPN station until early this year I believe. That's why John Lopez and Ted DeLuca have their own show now. I think ESPN opted out of the station because 790 decided to have more local programming. They have some Fox Sports Radio shows now, but it's all local from 6 AM-7 PM during the week. 97.5 has one local show (Jorge Vargas and Jerome Solomon) and everything else is an ESPN syndicated radio show I believe. So they are seperate stations.

790 has JT the Brick! That's my favorite show.

And the reason why ESPN opted out was because they were switching over to FM dials, rather than AM dials.

What puff piece... all it lacks is some kisses and hugs. Next time explain what is Hardcore practice with deep study.

Intense film study and extra off-season workouts with his recievers, to start off. Something your loverboy never seemed to grasp.

Does everything always have to be spelled out for you? :um:

oh, and glad you found the trail of breadcrumbs over here....I guess.

Dave admitted in a recent interview that he never picked up a football before June. Well, not until he got to Carolina anyway.

do you have a link to that interview? i'm not surprised if that was the case though. you have to constantly hone your skills if you are going to get anywhere in professional sports. you can take the training down a notch in the offseason but you still have to keep your game tight and improve.

from what I have heard about Schaub this offseason, he has already been working WITH his teammates in the offseason on routes and timing and this was WAY BEFORE June. Hopefully that is a good omen for next year.

This season is shaping up to be a great season with tons of subplots and rivalries around the league.

Let's see there was this:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2836486

"It's funny, the day I was signed by Carolina, I was throwing balls the next day. I've never done that before,'' Carr said. "I was out there throwing a ball for two or three hours and I couldn't really explain it except I was excited to get a new opportunity and a chance to show what I can do.''

And there was this:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/4780266.html

"You've got to enjoy the game," Carr said. "If you're not having fun, it's going to be like what I had the last couple of years where you almost don't even want to come to work."

I thought there was another quote but those were all I could find quickly. But I think that first quote implies that he wasn't throwing during the offseason except when he was at OTA's or TC.

In the second link, there's a little something that I think illustrates his lack of leadership skills.

"We're getting along great," Carr said of Delhomme. "He's taught me some things. He's super hard on himself and it kind of rubs off on the group. It makes us all better."

I guess so. Hardcore, now it's intense... is there a sale on adjectives that I don't know about? Deep study... wow. That sounds so Greenie like, Is there trouble on the Mike & Mike show. Slow down with all phony hype, at least until he plays his 1st game. eh?

Yeah, we should be just like you and hate on Schaub until then. There is really no point in having any optimism. At least not like was afforded to Dave for five years.

Mike & Mike Show. I see one of your problems now.

I know. That's why I like Jim Rome Show and JT the Brick (especially the latter). They are more straight forward without the phony stuff.

Tsk, Tsk, some reply... All you got Greenie is to label me as a hater on the Schaubie. When the most I've wrote is the jury is still out without a down being played by him yet. Gee, talk about a weak response. But it is off-season so I'll over-look it.

Yeah, that's 'all' you've said. :ok:

I guess asking you to engage in legimate football discussion would be too much to ask. If it wasn't for your constant negativity and borderline troll comments, you'd not have much to say.

I'm familiar with the term pompous. Along with name labeling is all you brought to the table. So lets' end this.

I don't understand what you have against fans being optimistic

This IS a Texans message board, ya know.....

We've made significant changes in personnel and the coaching staff...last year we saw players (minus David Carr) playing with heart...We have two very talented young players on the D-line, a young hungry stud at MLB, and a good young corner...When people talk about teams on the rise we have been getting a lot of mentions...

We have a QB who we are expecting to play well, he's shown leadership, he has the physical tools....even if you want to look at him as an unproven rookie should we not be excited about what we hope to be a positive change ? Should the Browns not be optimistic about getting Quinn ? Should the Cardinals not have been optimistic about Leinart ? It's like getting a highly touted QB right outta college....except this guy is a vet...one that has had a chance to sit, learn, and become more hungry...One that most thought was better than the guy he was sitting behind....

I don't understand your problem with fans being optimistic about their teams...Seems like you're either a troll, have a complex or lack the basic understanding of human nature...I dunno it may be all three:confused:

If reading post about how the Texans messed up, and how we're not going anywhere gets you off, last time I checked the Jags, Colts, and Titans all had sites. And if you're feeling really freaky and wanna hear how much of a bad mamma jamma David Carr is you're only a few keystrokes away from paradise over at the Panthers board...Thats where the action you seek is brutha...

No one makes you come to the place where the TEXANS fans are...and if someone is you need to get out of that situation...

When you're kids are born or if you have kids I hope you immediately expect good things from them and don't suck all the confidence out of their vibrant souls becuase they're unproven....

Dave admitted in a recent interview that he never picked up a football before June. Well, not until he got to Carolina anyway.

For what it's worth, Brett Favre said the same thing. In his press conference he mentioned that he hadn't thrown a ball since the last game.

Of course, he's thrown a ball or two in his time.

Great post... Besides being totally incorrect. Ya did good. X-tru, there is so much info on me here, if you took the time to inform yourself, that you wouldn't sound so uninformed.

If you aren't Carr's father, you should be locked up. I can understand a little manlovin for a favorite player, but in your case we're looking at psychological obsession. Scary!

It should be noted that caddy is one of the few posters in this thread who hasn't mentioned Carr.

There's an obsession here with Carr, for sure. But, it cuts both ways.

Kubiak knows QB's and Schaub has played within this system since his college days. Moreover, the positive comments coming from his team mates having to do with the small things are refreshing.

We have gone from the definition of insanity at the QB position to one that holds some uncertainty, but not as mush as year's past. Anyone that thinks we are worse off with Schaub has not been watching Texans' football for the last five years. The baby and the bath water are gone.

Things that are understood don't need to be explained.
Well, if you, caddy, or anyone else feel the need to pontificate on David Carr, maybe you should take it to the NFL forum. It's pretty sad that Matt Schaub can't even get the most mentions in a thread concerning him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's virtually impossible to have a thread that doesn't discuss how our team has played in the past. And if we're going to discuss the past, Carr is almost always going to come up.

If we start talking about Schaub, then comparisons with previous QB performance are going to come up. If we try to talk about our line, the issue of sack responsibility last year comes up.

It's sad but it's true. It's going to take a while and some therapy, to get Carr out of our systems.

David Carr's name is brought up in relation to how we predict our team, our line and our QB will play this upcoming year. Everything in this thread has been Texan related.

When someone starts talking about David Carr and how he will affect the Panthers then I could see your point.

Until then I feel like you're totally off base.

I think we can make a better effort. I don't see why the mere mention of Schaub allows carte blanche DC spewage. There's plenty on Schaub to discuss. His experience in the WCO. His preseason and regular season success. As well as the concerns regarding Matt's limited snaps. There's plenty to discuss, if there's a will to do so.

Exactly. The thing is that nobody has knighted him King Schaub. As a matter-of-fact, he's got the extra burden, as it probably should be, of proving himself to the fans before they immortalize him.

Everyone pretty much understands that he is unproven, but it is in that unknown that we place our optimism. The team is not static, and it is changing and evolving to reflect the Kubiak FO. Why a little blind optimism about the positive news out of Texansland is frowned upon I'll never understand. I guess some folks are just bitter and choose to continue living in the past.

It's funny that a thread about Schaub on 790am spins into a DC thread.

Just like VY or RB, DC is not a Texan and let's move on, shall we?

:texflag:

Kinda' funny that you would say that (re: moving on) when your sig brings up RB every time you post. ;)

Wario's sig said:
I'm glad Reggie Bush is not a Texan.

What? The thread turned into a DC thread and it was a Schaub thread.

heh, maybe we should start a DC thread to see if it morphs into a Shaub thread.

wait, on second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea. :shades:

Ugh, time to change my sig I guess........:)

Well said. I'm as ready to move on as the next guy. The season can't get here soon enough! :texflag:
