Kailee Wong Retiring

His eye sight is exceptional as he must have read the writing on the wall. I did like him though.

WOW, unexpected. Wish him well and good luck in his future. And yes Vinny I agree, one of the good guys.

Sad to see him go. He actually used to moonlight at an electricity brokerage firm I used to work at and he would show up to work a couple of days a week as an energy trader. I guess the lure of an electricity brokerage career and massive injuries made him see the light.

Not really that unexpected.

Though he came back from a serious injury, he wasn't quite the same.

In the offseasons, he has been working for a local corporation. I talked to someone he worked with and this guy said that Kailee is really really bright and can pretty much write his ticket post football. That he wasn't going to be one of those guys that hangs on to football because they have nothing else.

Good luck Kailee.

I would like to see one of the local radio sports shows bring him on like Mario Elie or Kevin Bass.

Good luck, KW! He was super cool at All Access last year, and I wish the best for his post football life.

WOW...
not the suprise wow, but "the times are changing":

2002:
Wong
Sharper
Foreman
Posey

2007 - All gone!

Good Luck Kailee!!

Good Luck KW. One of the best spoken athletes ever. He should join the NFL Network or ESPN. I really liked KW.

I'm going to take a moment of silence.

Ok, this really proves to me what a stand up guy Kailee is. He knew when it was time to hang up the shoes. Best of luck to you Mr. Wong. You have more than earned the respect of all the Houston Texans fans. Thank you for everything.

Good idea. He is an excellent speaker with a very good radio voice. Add to that his insight into football, and his overall intelligence, and I think you have a great combo.

Sad to see him go. He was never a great LB, but made a lot of plays, and is a great person, with a lot of heart. That's pretty easy to see.

Good luck Kailee!

Wow, good luck to Kailee.

Truly one of the class guys that we had around here. Sad to see him go after all the struggles he had the past year coming back from injury.

Good luck on the Wong and Winding road ahead!
Always do the right thing not the Wong thing!

He always seemed like a very likeable guy when in public. Good luck KW.

That said, seeing that he retired it frees up what ever cap he accounted for, correct? I don't think there's much out there as far as talent goes to sign, but it could be used if there are any player cut that could be beneficial to our team.:shades:

He was into trading power/electricity contracts ? You're talking the technical end of it where he actually dealt with acccounts ? And one could do that with this firm you were associated with on a part-time basis ? I suspect he was really in the PR or marketing segment of the business ?

He received a degree in economics from Stanford--he can handle more than PR.

Really nice guy, wish him the best.

I had heard rumors he was going to be a July 1 (or is it June 1) "extended cuts" (tell them before the deadline but allowed to cut them later and not take a hit).

Explains why he wasn't cut. Glad he and the team parted ways on good terms :)

One of the nicest players I ever met! This is not unexpected, but, kinda sad none the less. No doubt he will have a bright future, whatever he chooses to do. I wish him the very best!!

Close to $2.5 million.

From the ESPN news report http://sports.espn.go.com/minorlbb/news/story?id=2872798

"I wish I could have left this place where we had already been in the playoffs, but I do believe that this coaching staff under coach Kubiak and this team is going to bring the playoffs to this town," Wong said. "Im remorseful that I'm not going to be part of it, but with where I'm at, its best for me to move on." -Wong

I think its not going to be too long before people start realizing what a great coaching staff Kubiak has put together.

That's not the point. He could have had a double major in electrical engineering & finance from MIT or whatever. In other words ones academic resume is just part of the requirements.
I had no idea that people moonlighted or worked on any kind of a less than full time basis as a commodities trader, which is a highly demanding occupation that requires an individuals undivided attention. I don't think its something an individual can dabble in on the side when they've got some spare time.

Thanks to Mr. Wong for giving his all for this team, and like many have already said I hope he can stay around the organization in some form or fashion.

Not retiring, but rather being released?
Linebacker Wong, original Texan, walks away. link

Kailee Wong loves the game of football, but he wants to play it the way that works for him.

When the Texans came to him with an attractive offer to remain with the team as a backup, Wong said, "No." The linebacker would rather lose his job than stay in Houston as a well-paid second stringer. Because of his decision, the Texans will release him Thursday.

It's not out of the question for Wong to play for another team if the situation is right. He's not filing his retirement papers in the near future. Still, if the situation isn't right, Wong may not play again.

"I've had a good experience here in Houston," Wong said in a statement. "I'm very fond of this place with its fans. I am very honored to be one of the few Texans that have been here since the beginning and been a part of the franchise."

Different spin on it now?

Didn't realize he was the all time sack leader for the Texans. Oh well, that's a record I think will be broken rather quickly.

I know people he worked with. One of them said that the job was almost to easy for Kailee and that he would be good at whatever he chose to do post-football.

I was on the sales end of the company, the owner of the company is also a minority owner of the Texans or whatever. Kailee was a part-time energy trader and during the offseason would just go in and make some calls when he felt like it. I only worked for that company for 3 months and I saw Kailee in the office maybe 5 days. He was at our company's bowling deal we had too. From what I was told, he did the trading thing part time. I'm sure it's just a deal he cut with the CEO.
