Who don't you want to drafted as a Texan?

Practice Squad
It seems like this year it is a lot different then last years draft. I was just wondering what would you HATE to see the Texans do with their 8th pick in the first rd. Whether it's taking John Doe, or trading to move up, down, etc. What don't want to see the Texans do?

Brady Quinn, Marshawn Lynch, any receiver but C.Johnson, Paul posluzny, and not reaching for OL or DL...at the 8th

I don't want to see us trade up for our 1st selection...we need ALL the picks we can get.

I wouldn't mind seeing us trading down at all...so long as we pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd rder. They should be starters anyways....I wouldn't trade down past 16ish probably.

Ted Ginn, Brady Quinn, Alan Branch

I actually Like Alan Branch. agree with the other two. Untill I see Ginn Jr in a NFL game going over the middle and not allagator arm the catch...he's a one trick poney.

Sidney Rice WR South Carolina. There is a ton of upside with Rice. However he does not have natural soft hands, He strugles in most NFL patterns except the fly pattern. The fly he does very, very well. He has a higher bust range than "all star" range. Anyone takes him day one is gambeling they can coach him up.

I'm not anti Leron Landry. Taking the guy at the eight is very foolish. Landry is in the 12- 20 range in terms of tallent, and BPA. Taking the guy with the eight is like throwing two picks away. I don't think this team can afford to do that.

I guess I feel the same way about Branch (and Landy for that matter). I don't really dislike Branch, but I don't think he should be a top 10 pick.

My thoughts are pretty close to Ole Miss Texans'

I don't want Marshawn Lynch at #8. Only really watched him in the bowl game vs. the Aggies, but (despite his stats) he didn't impress me. Maybe if we traded into the lower part of the 1st, but not with a high pick.

Brady Quinn doesn't impress me either. If he falls to us at #8, I'd hope that we'd trade down with someone...

The only receiver I'd want early (in fact, almost anywhere in the first few rounds, unless we were getting great value) is Calvin Johnson. But, I wouldn't want to trade up for him, and the only way I think he'd fall to #8 would be if some serious problem popped up (in which case I might not want him anymore).

The only scenario I'd want to trade up would be if we had already released Carr and were trading up to get Russell. But even then, I don't know that I would really like it - it would be more of a trade out of need. Trade down might be OK (we need players) depending on the deal, but I'd probably be happiest staying put - I think we'll get someone good at #8, and going down even to #13 or so gets a lot shakier.

We all can agree Brady Quinn. He looks like Carr and has the same mechanics as Carr. So no on that one......

Last thing this team really needs is another great receiver with nobody to get the ball to him. With that said, my answer is:

ANY WR (including CJ), Quinn

"A numbers guy", for once can we get a guy that has a proven record to make a game changing play. (AP) Listen I bleed burnt orange and hate Oklahoma with a passion, but nothing for nothing this kid can flat out play ball! If he isn't there and I was making the choice 1) I would trade down and go for value like a Nelson or Landry, 2) Jamaal Anderson keep building that D Baby! The fact is we need a something on Sundays to look at and say we are one of the best teams to ....... Now whether it's our O-line, D-line, run game or pass game, we need something.

Of the names I've seen tossed around, I think drafting Adrian Peterson would be a big mistake. Missed to many games at the college level.

no qb...not even a late rounder. unless it is c.johnson, then no wr. i want a S/CB. i mentioned this in another thread that i like the kid out of florida..."the eraser". i wouldn't mind d.wright in the 2nd or 3rd, provided he's still there. (i have already admitted to being a bulldog homer).

People I don't want to reach for at 8th pick:
Laron Landry
Levi Brown
Any OLB
Marshawn Lynch
Reggie Nelson
Any DL not named Alan Branch

People I don't want period:
Jamarcus Russel
Leon Hall

I think Ted Ginn is a sissy. He was jogging off the field when he got "hurt" then he comes back on crutches? I wouldn't want someone that isn't tough on my team.

Also, Brady Quinn. You guys don't need another David Carr.

For the first pick ...
- Any receiver
- Any QB
- D-Line - I think we have bigger holes to fill

I'd mostly like to see us trade down to a late-middle pick in the first and get either FS or CB ... mostly.

I'm pretty sure that the doctors were the ones who told him what to do. I highly doubt that they told him he was fine, but he decided to walk with crutches anyway.

Get your facts straight. Look at his foot.

Back on topic, I don't want ANY WR, no QB before the 4th or RB before the 3rd. I want a DB or O-Line help, pick #8 being the best of those that is available..

Here is one nobody has said yet.....Gaines Adams.

As a pass rusher, I love him. He can get to the QB and has a motor. The only problem is that he can't play the run. Once a lineman gets his hands on him, its over. He gets dominated. We need a complete DE at #8, and I don't think Adams is the answer. Anderson for Arkansas is a different story though........

Again I will say it. We NEED Okoye in the worst way to shore up our terrible run D. Getting back to the topic...We don't need to trade up and draft Joe Thomas, which is what I'm afraid Rick Smith will try to do. We also don't need Adrian Peterson...I will say it one more time...CHRIS TAYLOR IS GOING TO BE A HECK OF A RUNNING BACK....PLEASE DON'T TRADE OR RELEASE HIM!!!!!

Terrible run D? I dont think we gave up a 100 yard rusher since Tiki when we played the Giants. Our pass rushing from the front 4 is a bigger issue then run stopping (which is why we need to move Weaver inside and get a complete DE opposite Mario).

i dont think any linebacker is worth a top 15 pick this year, so i would hate for us to reach on a linebacker...at the corner, none of them are worth the top 10 and after the combine, i can see maybe, just maybe reggie nelson being top 10 material...but i dont think we should take a reach on anyone; if the player you want is already taken and the next best guy on your board would last a few mmore pic, then take the best offer and trade down...

I don't know how you can say Chris Taylor is going to be a good running back after one game against a bad Browns defense. If we go into next season with any sort of combination of Ron Dayne, Chris Taylor, Wali Lundy, Dominick Williams, and Samkon Gado, I'm going to have absolutely no confidence in our running game. Adrian Peterson is a beast. That guy has more talent in his nose than all of Taylor. I'm not knocking Taylor, but how can you pass on the best pure running back prospect in the draft since LaDamian Tomlinson and Ricky Williams? You can't.

That is the worst thing you can do....move a player away from his natural position. I think Anthony Weaver should be traded now that you bring it up. He has a huge contract and doesn't play nearly at that level. He's not this super d-lineman people make him out to be. Again...OKOYE!!! Please!!!!

Hall
Branch
Quinn
Russell
McCauley
Lynch
Any LB
Ginn
Any other WR except CJ
Any "numbers guy"
Anyone who just exploded into top 10 before the draft.
Anyone Capers or Cass says they like

Anthony Weaver was projected as a late 1st round pick way back when and purely as a DT, not a DE. He played many a DT this year; I have no problem with him purely as DT next year.

You mean like Jamaal Anderson?

He wasnt on any draft boards I saw all season.

Then at the end of the year he is suddenly #5 on Mel Kiper's board.

Somethin fishy about that.

I agree with this, Taylor didn't see enough action to deserve any serious consideration in the running back rotation for next season. Taylor will have this offseason to show the coaches something or he will probably start the season back on the practice squad. I do not want to start the season with the same group of rushers that could not consistently get the job done last year. Our inability to get our running game going basically killed our offense for most of the year. We need to have a credible threat in the running game.

The running game was killed because of a make shift line due to injuries and lack of depth. Another rookie on the line didn't help but i think Winston will be solid. The best example i can give is look at Edge in Indy.....and look at his production in Ariz. Good lines make mediocre backs good and good backs great. Example Terrell Davis and Jamal Lewis. Good backs...but had great lines in front of them.

While we have so many question marks about our oline i think they will be better next season. It's hard to tell how much they improved throughout the season learning the new season because they were never playing all together which sucks since it was our first year for them to really learn it in game situations. With all the offseason to heal, learn the system, practice. maybe a good FA here or there...i think we will vastly improved from our rotating line. I think it's going to be night and day and the other teams we play are going to be like 'crap we were not prepared for this'. Now i'm not saying all of a sudden we're going to be a great line with any flaws..we're far from it but vast improvement is all we can ask for and what i think we're going to get.

Don't want to trade up, period. No, not even for Joe Thomas. Teams with depth trade up. We're not them.

Prefer a trade down so we're not reaching when we use our first pick on secondary help.

If stuck at 8, don't want a CB, LB, WR not named Calvin Johnson, RB not named Adrian Peterson, QB not named JaMarcus Russell or any workout warrior with a questionable motor.

Thought Marshawn Lynch would be a good fit until last week. Now I think he'd make a great Bengal.

Would smile if AP falls to us (then listen to trade offers) because I think there's good value in the later rounds; Michael Bush, Kenny Irons, Alley Broussard or Dwayne Wright would come a lot cheaper and could thrive in our offense. If no good offers, take AP because he'll be the best player available and let's face it; he's the real deal.

Think the gems will come late first day and would be willing to trade down out of the first round completely if offered a too-good-to-pass-up package.

No Marcus McCauley unless he can explain why someone so fast, long and explosive can get beaten like Neil Peart's drum set for virtually an entire senior season. We don't need another P-Burnt.

No Ted Ginn Jr. NFL Safeties will kill this guy and worse yet, I think he knows it.

This is true, but I don't foresee any wholesale changes along the OL, and if you remember correctly, our running game was at its worst at the beginning of the year when the OL was still mostly intact. It wasn't until the end of the year that the running game started to actually become productive, when the OL had been decimated by injuries. The RBs should be held accountable for their part in this lack of run production. I will agree that our OL is not were it needs to be, but our stable of runningbacks is sorely lacking as well.

Smart thing to say coming from an AGGIE..lol
