andre "drop" johnson

Waterboy
when the game was in the balance, when it was time for men to step up who had courage, AJ was the biggest slacker or even coward on the field, refusing to make the tough catch. he's not ready for prime time.

Lets forget the fact he is about 50% of our passing offense and way over 50% of our targets. I never tought i would say this, but we are trying to get the ball to him too much. We have to spread it around a little more then use his explosivness instead of running crossing slants and slants into the middle of the field where safties and linebackers are waiting, not having to worry about the run and knowing we want to go to AJ at evey opportunity.

All the "drops" were in coverage and heavy traffic. Believe it or not, its hard to catch a ball going 80 miles and hour when you have hands in your face, getting hit by Roy Williams and surrounded by people trying to stop you. Yes, he gets paid to catch the ball, but we have to use Molds for what we brought him in here to do: take pressure off AJ by being the #1 option when the D keys on AJ. We havnt done that yet.

stupid post of the day. So andre has one big not so good game today. :brickwall

totally agree, stupid post. defenders are focusing in on him every play, why? Cause we can't RUN THE DAMN BALL. Sooner or later you knew who was going to get keyed on if you put the whole game into perspective and not just the dropped ball.

He got the Steve Smith treatment today (Seahawks in the NFC Championship game). How do we respond to this next week? Get the ball to Emo early and let him make some plays, then go to AJ. Balance!

why does AJ always get a free pass with fans?
he drops his fair share of passes and sometimes he seems to not have any heart. (along with the rest of the team).
so why does carr , mario, etc. get ragged on all the time when andre gets nothing but praise?
it smacks of a double standard to me...

Yeah, I totally agree with the balance deal. The only problem I had with Carr was he referred back to some old habits today, locking on one reciever and not going thru his reads, but I'm pretty sure Kube's pick up on that and get it corrected this week.

Dang it, you have to make plays IF your a "pro bowl" wr, he is not getting off this easy just because he has freaky talent, so what he dropped some KEY passes today, he a terrible game.

I expect bigger plays and more key grabs then he has shown, catch the football when it is hard to catch the football.

Throwing to him too much give me a break people, I could see if he id double covered and such, but when it is just EASY slant routes and you still cant win the battle, COME ON?

He must be doing something right.Through 5 games andre would be the leader in recieving yards and I think receptions.By the way, this is a stupid post.

I know it's not kosher to criticize our best player, but let's face it: He had an AWFUL game when we needed him DESPERATELY. While I'm not going to say he's a coward by any means, he did play about as bad as the rest of the team. Our running game isn't working; these short passes to Dre is the best we could muster. Hey, someone's got to freakin step it up, and Johnson had the opportunity to do that. And he didn't today. Yeah, he was covered well, but all those balls were catchable today, and that was the difference between being able to stay on the field for another set of downs and letting Dallas get another TD.

Dude was M.I.A. when it counted.

Carr's taken all the heat and now when AJ can make a few key catches...he drops them. That kind of thing is a momentum killer for the whole team.

If he's as good as you guys are pumping him up to be with all the "He's the best player" stuff...then where was he today?

TO had to make a few tough grabs, and he made them. AJ didn't. End of story.

Some of you guys sound like you are blaming the loss all on Johnson. When reallisticly, it wasn't all one person's fault. But between Carr and Johnson, the blame has to be put more on Carr because his mistakes were bigger.

He caught 9 balls, 5 more than anyone on our team, 4 more than anyone in the game. Unless I missed him running the ball and run blocking, he's doing his best. He may have dropped a couple of balls, but most of those "drops" were passes defended - i.e. broken up by the defense. But if you want to blame it on AJ, go ahead.

What a weak ass post, nice of you to call someone a coward in total anonymity. And not to mention your hanging a blow out on one person, sounds reasonable, NOT.

It was a wet, rainy day, we couldn't run block at all, the defense knew it and was sitting back expecting passes, they have one of the most hard hitting secondaries in the NFL, and AJ was forced to run over the middle time and time again. I say give him a break.

As far as blaming Carr, the guy was trying to make plays and Lord knows he had to force the issue with passing the ball because we weren't gonna run if our lives depended on it today.

These are all the kinds of things that happen on offense when you can't run. If you can't run, at least adequately, YOU ARE DEAD (unless the opponent can't run either). Furthermore, the D stays on the field too much, because AGAIN you can't run, and they get worn out and demoralized. It's the NFL. Learn to run block!

It's all tied together. If you totally suck bad in one part of your game, all the other parts of your game will suffer. When you can't get a pass rush to save your life, the opposing QB will sit back in the pocket and laugh until it's time to throw another long strike and then the running game will eat you up when you try to put extra DBs on the field or keep adding pass rushers and get burned. We saw that earlier this year.

If you can't protect your QB....well, we saw that for 4 yrs. (or at least 3 out of 4) and you guys ought to know the problems it causes.

Find the most obvious thing your team can't do right, and you can bet that the other problems are most likely a result of it. A chain and it's weakest link--you know the rest. Right now, the run blocking sucks and there's no excuse for it. An N F L offensive linemen should know how to drive a DL's shoulder blades into the freaking dirt on a run play. That's all I got to say about that. Hey, look....you're bigger than him, you weigh more, he's in YOUR MAN's WAY!

Morons. Really. How is AJ getting a free pass? You people are jumping all over him for a couple of drops. You know what it is? You guys are SPOILED by AJ's Pro Bowl play. Guess what, all WRs drop some passes! AJ dropped some, he also caught ALOT. Hate to say it, but AJ is carrying this offense right now. There is NO run game. There are no other recieving options. The only reason other players (even Moulds) make any catches is because the defense is so focused on Johnson. Really, picture this offense without Johnson. Scary isn't it? Some of you people are amazing. You say he's getting a free pass, but in your eyes he's never allowed to make a mistake.

AJ is our biggest weapon. However us going to him so often does hurt the offense. I say this because even though he is a great receiver it tells me Carr doesn't always check down. Sometimes Carr will force the ball into traffic trying to get it to AJ. You guys saw the ball he tried to get to Johnson that was tipped and he tipped as well and then Walters got layed out when he was looking at it. Carr should have gone to Walters on that play. It's good that AJ is a great player and that Carr is spreading the ball, but Carr needs to be more efficient. AJ makes a high percentage of his catches. Add to that that it was raining today. Not that that's an excuse their's always room for improvement, but get serious. There's only so much one player can do. The rest of the team needs to help out as well.

I'm not blaming the loss all on Johnson, but if there was one player who could have stepped up and made a big impact on this game, it was him. Seriously, if he makes all those catches that he was supposed to make today, I honestly believe we could have kept this game competitive until the very end. Hey, I'm not saying we should get rid of him by any means, but when your team is starving for someone to make a freakin' play, you've got to point to AJ today. He was given an opportunity to make something happen and didn't.

Just cause some guy is your best player doesn't mean you don't have the right to come down on him. OU's Adrian Peterson pretty much makes up their whole offense, but if he isn't running well, he's going to hear about it, no matter how freakin' great he is compared to the rest of the team. Sorry, but I'm a frustrated Texans fan right now, and I can't give anyone a "break". When you are given the oppoutunity to make something happen, please make a play.

i agree with every word of this. it is serious homer-lackeydom to deliberately twist this thread into saying AJ is the texans worst player or something. BUT he ascribes to being a pro bowl talent, and if you want to be "the man" like that then you've got to make big plays in traffic and help the team keep the chains moving. when the ball went up in the air TO went and got it, whereas AJ played soft.

A.J needs to step up.....

No he isn't the biggest problem....but he does have some areas of his game that aren't up to par....period

AJs Dropped balls-4 by the way, No running game! NOT having a ground attack kills football teams, this game should have been close if we could have ran the football.

AND IT ALL...............

Johnson needs to show defenders they must fear him!! With that said, he needs to lay them on their ass, not them put A.J. on his.

A.J. is one of the best players at his position. And like any other player he will once in a while have bad games. Fortunately for us he's going to have more days like yesterday than the Dallas game.

This is just ANOTHER instance of "fans" jumping on the hater wagon. AJ could very well be the face of our franchise in the near future and already is in my book.

Wow .... just when I was beginning to believe everything you post .....

AJ would be a starter for every team in the NFL. A couple of dropped passes or a bad game happens to the best of 'em. You just have to step back and look at the entire body of work.

He's a pro-bowler this year. Hope he keeps it up for another 10 games.

The guy leads the league in receptions and yards and made a clutch catch for a TD on Sunday with two DB's up to his armpits. How do you even justify a statement like that????

I think that was for last week against the Cowboys. When I saw that I was like "WTF!" but then say the last week thing on his post.

it amazed me his rookie year and still does. andre drops the easiest of passes. he however makes the impossible ones. i jokingly said back then that we need to only throw to AJ when he's double covered because that's when he makes the big plays and i guess it still applies. that lob to the sideline needs to be a staple of our offense because 2 things are going to happen ... AJ catches it or noone does. andre's proven that he's going to be the one to win it almost every time.

He was just huge today. Definately need to give him as many chances to make plays as possible...so what if there are 3 defenders on him, throw it up there!

Hahaha! I dare you to say this to A.J.'s face!:hunter: :chicken:

heywood is enjoying a vacation. May be it will mellow him out enough to rejoin the MB when he gets back.

I have a couple of bucks that says he wont change. Seen him on other boards and he brings the same hater drival on them. Probably should be expected. He is the president and CEO of the "Perpetually offended Sociaty". Really bizzaro stuff at times.

moronic fair weather fans. this guy carried our offense for years..he drops passes (every WR does you douche) and all of a sudden you start bashing him again. how about you become a cleveland browns fan...tool

I've not read the rest of the posts and I'm sure someone else has mentioned the TD against the Jags. Went up between 2 defenders and game down with it. Thats not the act of a coward.

Look, AJ is excellent and he played a great game against Jacksonville. However, he played poorly against Dallas. Saying that doesn't make someone disloyal or a "hater", it simply is the truth. He dropped 3 passes cold. There were 3 others where he had an opportunity to win the ball from Anthony Henry and he didn't. Henry badly outplayed him. I think the point is that AJ needs to step up in those situations and win a battle against a B level CB like Anthony Henry. That was our only matchup advantage on offense and we didn't take advantage of it because AJ couldn't hold on to the ball and make a play.

That's the truth!
