I am so tired of the Reggie BS.
The man had 4 carries for 7 yards and ESPN talking heads made it seem like he was the second coming. I know that he did not play all that much but give me a break. There were more people that did more than him and they did not get an interview after the game. Not sure if I can take Monday night football on ESPN. I guess that I could watch the games with the sound off.

Defense wins championships....offense gets you on sportscenter... we chose defense so BSpn hates us... they dont care if the saints go 0-16 as long as beggie rush gives them good highlight reels.

what will it take to get espn to put up a comparrison between reggie bush against the texans 3rd & 4th runningbacks?

what do bush & mario have in common this week? they both ended up putting the football on the ground 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

espn isnt and wont take bets on whether or not the entire saints offense scores as many touchdowns as the texans backup rb's.

will the saints ever reach the sack total of the texans? espn wont answer that, because they couldnt even get to drew "the statue" bledsoe.

During last nights game, aj posted this comment in the Cowgirls/Saints game thread. I couldn't agree more:

Reggie Bush didn't do much. They were saying how he cut through six Cowboys, when five of him weren't even watching him (or it looked like it). Also, they showed this one guy (forgot his name), follow Joe Horn to the right side of the ball. The dude then let Joe Horn go and was watching Reggie Bust. This let Joe Horn be open in the backfield. After that play, the ESPN guys said, "Even without the ball, Reggie still makes a difference."

I'm sorry, but who cares? If you don't like ESPN, don't watch it. Its a pretty simple solution to this supposedly huge problem.

You may not like it, but ESPN is a business. You heard it on tv last night -- Reggie Bush's jersey is the #1 seller. Guess why people watched the game last night (including many of you, it seems)? To watch Reggie Bush. He's a hard working, likeable, talented athlete that produced exciting plays in college and has the potential to do so in the NFL as well. ESPN needs marketable names in order to suceed as a company first and foremost, and thats what Reggie Bush offers them.

I'm as sick as the next guy at the RB vs. MW debate/comparisons. I personally want them both to suceed. But from a marketing stand point, what ESPN is doing makes perfect sense. MW had a great game in terms of drawing attention away from Peek, moving the pile, etc. But those are boring highlights in the eyes of non-Houstonian joe-schmoe. As long as we win games, who cares what ESPN thinks? The best way to get equal highlight time is to win games

Ehhhh , the guy is plays a marquee position and in this age of football , popularity and marketing are more important than how you produce on the field . Its more important to be a media darling and make mega $$$ from endorsement deals ....:rolleyes:

A more unbiased review of the RB situation by NewOrleansProFootball.com:

Runningbacks: The Saints' first play from scrimmage was out of the I formation with Karney in front of Deuce McAllister. Deuce carried for three and five yards before Reggie Bush came in on third and short but lost three yards in a sweep. On that play, the Saints stacked tight ends Ernie Conwell and Mark Campbell to the left and ran towards them. But Campbell and Jammal Brown both went after the same perimeter defender and Bush was swarmed over for a loss... Deuce played only the first quarter, and finished with a catch, a drop and two carries. Bush was bottled but for the most part, but late in the first half showed some of his moves a swing pass and screen. Late in the second quarter, Terrance Newman and Bradie James had Bush dead to rights at the line off right tackle. But Bush burst forward between them and dove forward for a nine-yard gain... Later, Bush would let himself get strung out for a loss on a toss left. He must learn to make the move upfield and resist the temptation to spring to the sideline in the NFL... Bush finished with four carries for seven yards and two catches for 14 yards... With Stecker on the bench, RB Jamaal Branch picked up where he left off in Tennessee with inspired running. Keith Joseph and even Fred McAfee got into the mix in the second half. In fact, McAfee led the team with three receptions. McAfee, 38, was absorbing some good hits from guys 15 years younger. Still, McAfee showed a spin move here, some nifty receptions on slightly errant Bouman throws... Branch took run off left tackle away from pursuit down the left sideline, showing some Bush-like acceleration. Would have liked to have seen a Bush-like finish as well, but Branch escorted himself out of bounds. What has Jamaal Branch proved to anyone that he can take it easy after a decent run? Later, he fumbled on the one yard line after diving to set up first and goal, further building the barrier between him and a final roster... Later Branch would score by muscling through Al Singleton at the goal line, the Saints' only points of the night. Both Billy Miller and Keith Joseph had good blocks on the play...

The problem remains is that he does not the build, power or the fortitude to be a between the tackles RB.
 
He carried the ball 4 times in a preseason game. Holy crap, you all are just as bad as the Saints and ESPN trolls that whined about how "Mario Williams only had 1/2 a tackle in his first game. He's a bust."

It's a PRESEASON game and he's a ROOKIE.

Let's not forget the God awful amount of T.O. talk. He wasn't even there, Bledsoe and the Dallas receivers were making catch after catch, and all they kept talking of was T.O...

It's a shame that the guy wasn't there and they were talking more of him then the guys doing the playing. Just goes to show ya that they want this to be a story when most of the world just wants this whole thing to die down. Then the Romo vs. Bledsoe deal, big story that Kornholio was trying to make a serious point then Joe Schmoe called it the right way, it is no controversy. If Parcells says it, then go with it...

The media want Bush, good highlights, they want VY, but as mentioned, not alot of D makes it to TV, unless you are Ray Lewis or Urlacher. Fine with me...MW will do well, remember, Peppers and Freeney didn't come out the gate kicking a** either and look at them now, regulars on ESPN.

I don't know about you, but unless one of them has a monster game (3 sacks or so) or has an INT/Fumble that they return for a TD, I NEVER see them on TV highlights. Unless a defensive player scores a touchdown, it doesn't seem like they'll show it on ESPN.
 
Maybe someone can figure out how to give this information to ESPN, if you take away the 44 yard run on the broken play against the hapless Titan D, Mr. all world Reggie Bush has 9 rushes for an amazing 22 yards!!! Sign him up now for the HOF, Sean Salisbury could even introduce him.

Ditto for me. I was more upset about Tony Kornheiser. That guy is terrible as an analyst.

I thought about this a bit, and I feel that Reggie is dogged on because the hyped him to beyon belief. MW wasn't hyped by ESPN. Actually at the draft some of the New Yawkers were calling him overrated. So, since Reggie was hyped, then has a bad performaance, we make fun of him:ok: .
 
just because i'm a texan fan, it doesn't mean that i'm not looking forward to see what Reggie Bush can do. if he busts one for 80 yards against any team other than the texans, i'll be cheering.

that would have been funny seeing as how capers is (or was) supposed to be a defensive minded coach. kubiak is offensive minded, yet he goes for the defensive stud.

Oooh, oooh, I'll answer this one--because it was the only freakin' football game on.

As for Bush, you are right people should not be down on him based on one pre-season game. What irritates folks is taking what was a poor performance and trying to turn it into something it wasn't--basically the announcing and "analysis" was bad.

That guy who use to be on the O-Line (forgot his damn name), was just on ESPN. He just said Reggie is going to have to learn that he is not the best and there are guys that are just as fast as him in the NFL. They showed all of Reggie's stopped plays. Maybe the hype is coming down. That guy also said the Cowboys don't have the best defense, but they were better than the Titans, and the stopped Reggie. He then said Reggie is going to have to learn how to cut up the middle. Very true statement.

trust me when I say I am not a Reggie fan..... but you saw the game didn't you?? You saw Reggie's speed, his burst, his cut, his vision?? Do you think that Dallas' D could have kept him quite for 4 quarters?? I love the 'boys almost as much as I love the Texans...... but I think he'd have gotten away for a big one sooner or later. But then again so would have Duece........ the Duece is loose..... so I wonder if the Saints really gained anything.

ESPN is just getting ready for it.
 
Pre-season football (unless they have a red, white, and blue bull on their helmets) holds no attraction for me ....

Since we are talking about it...... I wonder if anyone else noticed how Vince Young was the only one they showed a negative highlight real of while he was still on the stage??

It was sickening....... sure, not everybody is a fan of the guys..... a lot of folks don't think he's going to make it........ but to highlight all the things he is doing wrong as he is drafted............ no class......

They must recoup their investment. That's the usual supect when exaggerations happen. But the problem is, the truth doesn't get through when money is the golden rule.

Good thing this sort of thing doesn't happen with our mainstream media...:rolleyes:

OH, yes. That's true. Reggie will get his share of 100yard games (the long run, rather than a bunch of short runs).

But the point is that this getting ready for "it" will be the problem too. That takes away from the team. It's like the baseball slugger that strikes out a lot because he goes for the homerun everytime.

I agree. I'm not even a Reggie hater. I was happy when we won the Bush Bowl. I'm really wondering if all the people that think Mario is a bust after two practice games think the same of Bush after last night. I hope both Bush and Mario go to multiple Pro Bowls.

I watched the MNF game last night mainly because of Reggie Bush, just like the rest of America who aren't Saints/Cowboys fans.

He won the Heisman. He average 10 yds a touch in college and we all want to see if he can do it in the pros. He's the new face of the NFL.

Get over it.

Well yeah I guess they both are. But to say ESPN talks too much about Reggie Bush is ridiculous. I want to hear about Reggie Bush and see all his plays. I'm not even a Saints fan yet I watched that game for the moment he stepped on the field.

ESPN can be pretty lame somtimes, Salisbury just needs to die. But they are a business and showing VY and RB is what EVERYONE wants to see. They are a QB and RB, respectively, so they have highlights. Until Mario Williams gets a sack or forces a fumble no one cares to see him go through the motions. Thus, there are more highlights for Reggie and Vince.
 
I'm sorry, but sacks are boring to watch in highlights as well. Who cares about watching a sack if its not their team? All it is a tackle, just like the 50 something others in each game, except its behind the line of scrimmage. I would rather watch a fancy 20 yard run or a long bomb of a pass any day. Thats why RB and VY get all the highlights. Unless its the Texans, I don't want to watch good defensive plays. I want to see good offensive plays and spectacular defensive plays.

I know that this probably sounds stupid, but thats the type of fan the NFL is raising in this day and age. If you find yourself questioning me, then I commend you for your true love of the game. A good defensive stop should probably get credit. But then again, so should great OL. I've VERY RAREY ever seen highlights of OL, and for good reason.

I had of course Stuart Scott propping up Bush for a cut back? Dude had like 7 yeards on 4 carries??

Reminds me when Carr came into the game Vs. the Falcons with one arm. Dude takes off for a 30 yard run to set the team up for the game winning Field Goal and on ESPN they show Vick run for 8 yards and get tackled by Sharper (miss that guy) and then the Field Goal, no mention of Carrs amazing run
 
You would think they would just show the most exciting plays, instead of mediocre ones by certain players. I understand why they don't show too many sacks or, obviously, a good blocking line, but I really think most people would rather watch Morency break a long one than see RB get a whole 8 or 9 yds, only to be blasted from behind (you can't stop in the NFL).

Especially when Morency's ended in the endzone, and not under a second year OLB.
