Supplemental Prospects?

Can anyone please provide a link to all the canidates for the upcoming 2006 supplemental draft, or least throw some names and postions out there.
 
I am not positive but I do not think our track record in this area is very good. Wasn't Tony Hollings a supplemental? I think we had one more but don't remember who.

Ahmad Brooks LB Virginia 6’4 249 Soph

Ahmad Brooks was one of the elite recruits in the country three years ago, and he may have already exceeded expectations in just two seasons of playing time. Brooks is draft eligible because he spent a year after high school at Hargrave Military Academy. During his freshman season, Brooks set a UVa freshman record with 117 tackles with 10 of them for loss, 4 sacks and 6 pass breakups. This season, as a sophomore, he has had another fine season, being named one of three finalists for the Butkus award. Brooks’ father, Perry, played for the Washington Redskins.

Ahmad Brooks is a physical specimen. He’s got awesome size, he’s a great athlete, he’s fast, and he’s strong. You may not be able to create a better looking linebacker than Brooks. On the field, he can do it all. He can drop back into coverage, he can weed through traffic and stuff the run, and he can get up field after the passer. Brooks is very versatile on the field; having the ability to play inside or out, and possessing the size to be a 3rd down pass rusher on the line. He has even lined up as a kick returner, averaging 27.5 yards on 2 returns in 2004.

There aren’t many negatives with Brooks. The obvious one is experience, as he has only played two seasons at the college level. Even that may be overrated, as he played at Hargrave for a year, and he has started every game he’s played in during his two years at Virginia.

Ahmad Brooks is a great prospect, whenever he declares. He should be a Top 20 pick if he declares this year. With his size, athleticism, and versatility, it’s hard to not see Brian Urlacher. Brooks is that type of talent, and he’s going to be an excellent NFL linebacker.

That's too high, I that we might be able to give a third but if his bid is a second rounder by a different team then I don't see us getting him.

I can't really fault the texans on that pick before he got hurt Tony Hollings was one of the best running back prospects in college

hollings was a backup defensive back his first 2 years, and only played 4 games in college as a running back.

I agree. This kid would have been a top 15 pick next year. I would not mind giving up a second..
 
I would probably not go any higher than a 3rd and that would be only if he interviewed real well with us. I've read numerous reports about this guy being a headcase. Remember before you start demanding we throw in a first round pick...he got kicked off his team for a reason.

There's no doubt that our defense would look AMAZING with him if he got his head on straight.

He sounds like he could be a great linebacker, but he was kicked of Virginia's team after testing positive for an illegal substance multiple times. Brooks and his people are saying it could have been second hand smoke, so it is obviously Mary Jane. He tested positive at least twice with Virginia officials within in the past few months and was booted off the team for an "off-field incident".
He is a great player, that I still think we should look at. But we need to be careful.

That is the whole problem. I don't see us looking at someone with any attitude problems or a history of having them. I would like him on our team a lot as long as we don't give up a first round pick.

Is there a link on this? Being a headcase is allot different than being a wacky weed smoker. If he has a drug problem, then it going to affect his career in ways that allot of teams will not even look at him. If he is just a headcase, say like Vick, then oh my......:hunter:
 
What I was meaning is that I was hoping that someone could provide a link or wedsite that talked about all the canaidates that were coming into this years supplemental draft.

I agree.. depends on the interview. I mean warren sapp was busted and straightened himself out , so to speak.. yet it IS a case by case scenario


if he interviews good..2nd round and I have no problem , because I don't think he'd be around if he came out next season ,when our 2nd round pick came up
 
lets not forget kubiak was on the same team that wasted a 3rd round pick on maurice clarett. id say theres a slim chance of it happening but he is very talented by all accounts and it is a definite need for our team...

Supp draft on week sked… The NFL will be holding its annual summer supplemental draft on Thursday later this week. Its been acknowledged for a while that former star Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks, Iowa State DE Jason Berryman and junior college LB David Dixon had applied for entry to this week’s draft, however, long-time NFL draft guru Gil Brandt is reporting over at NFL.com that there are actually 7 players entered in this week’s special player lottery. Joining the original three are two former Texas Longhorns, FB Ahmard Hall and DT Marco Martin, along with UConn DT Craig Berry and North Carolina State WR Richard Washington. Former Cavalier Brooks, though, is the prize in this week’s supplemental draft. Indeed, at this time last year, Brooks was being talked about as a potential top 5-10 pick at the 2006 draft if he were to leave school early. Brooks, though, suffered through an injury-plagued 2005 season and then was booted from the team this winter for repeated violations of team rules. Nobody has said anything publicly, but there have been rumors that Brooks tested positive for marijuana on a number of occasions. Brooks reportedly had also ballooned up to close to 290 pounds this winter, but was reportedly down to around 260 when he worked for NFL teams last month and intends to play in the 255 range this fall. Despite the myriad of red flags, the very athletic Brooks- he has actually run kickoffs back for the Cavaliers on occasion – has attracted plenty of attention from pro teams with San Francisco and Miami reportedly the most intrigued. Brooks, though, has also recently interviewed with a number of other teams including Cleveland, Cincinnati, Green Bay and the Giants. As such, there is speculation that Brooks could go as early as the second round of this week’s draft. Unlike the regular NFL draft, the selection order for the supplemental draft is determined by a weighted lottery. Teams are grouped into three groups: teams that won less than 6 games in 2005; other non-playoff teams; and the playoff teams. The order within each group is then determined by a weighted lottery with teams with the worst records having the best chance of having the first pick in each group. The draft is then conducted by teams interested in a player indicating which round they would take that player. The player is awarded to the team indicating the highest pick in the highest round. That team then forfeits its pick in that round at the 2007 draft. There should also be more than passing interest in several of the other players at this year’s supplemental draft. ISU’s Berryman, for example, is a potentially explosive tweener edge rusher; the 6-1, 235-pound Berryman, who 7.5 sacks last fall, also leads the league in off-field troubles; indeed, he spent a year in jail a couple of seasons ago. For his part, LB David Dixon is a very good athlete with sub-4.5 speed, but he never played D1 football because of academic limitations. Meanwhile, UConn’s Berry, at 6-5, 325, has NFL size, although he lacks the athleticism to figure as a more than a RT prospect; while Texas FB Ahmard Hall is a potentially useful lead blocker, although he’s not overly big at just 5-11, 235. On the other hand, DT Martin, the other former Longhorn in this week’s draft, has all the tool’s that NFL teams are looking for in a stud DT including size (6-3, 300) and 4.7 speed, but the one-time star recruit never played much at Texas. Same for NC State WR Washington who isn’t very big (5-10, 170) or fast.

Yep. There are a few on the board that want to go after Brooks. After our past dealins', I'm kinda with you. But the Brooks guys really believe. Go down the board and there is some disscusion/polls on the subject. NFL Draft countdown
has Brooks going in the third (527 votes). A lot of us said the forth would be a good round to gamble on the guy. they have a complete over veiw, includung prospects.

From what I've seen, 22 teams attended his workout. Anyone know if the Texans were one of those teams?

31 Teams attended brooks workout...I think all except the bears or 49'ers....but the Texans definitely had a rep there...
 
Sounds like the guy would solve our MLB issues if he pans out. I would spend a 3rd on him. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes for a 2nd. A lot of people seem to like him.

I wish the Texans would take a chance on him or the other athletic linebacker...I think our linebackers aren't as strong as they should be...But I doubt the Texans will take a chance on him...Doesn't seem to be Kubiaks style..

Someone mentioned Claurett earlier. I wonder if it was Kubiak or Shannahan that wanted him. Either way, it seems like LB is an area of weakness and this guy could be a really good one if he can keep his head on straight.

Yeah I thought about Maurice...but the thing about that is...if it wasn't Kubes who wanted him then that means it's not really his stlye...If it was Kubes that wanted him, he may feel like .... fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice shame on me....and BTW, I totally agree with you about our LB core...IMO, they aren't that hott...Overall i would give them a grade of C- to a C+....We definitely need some help in that area but I don't see them adressing that until next years draft...
 
Well idk Kubiak personally...So i may be wrong....He's definitely not stranger to controversy....thats for sure...
 
Well I think Kubiak won't do it. Simply because he is building this team and probably won't give away first day picks.
 
Character means absolutely nothing to the Bengals. It is confirmed by ESPN that they used a third round pick.
 
The Bengals are going to be awesome in the near future...and If Brooks can get onto the field he will make their D that much better
 
I think we could go as high as a 3rd rounder, but it is a tricky situation. We found two great prospects in this years draft at that spot. The only difference is, what are the chances of that happening next year, and what are the chances of this guy being too doped out to pan out?

THURMAN SUSPENDED FOR FOUR GAMES

A league source tells us that Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been suspended four games for violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

The suspension helps to explain the team's surprising decision to select linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the Supplemental Draft. However, Brooks has had his own history with banned substances; he was once arrested for possession of marijuana, and Jason Cole reported for the Miami Herald last month that Brooks failed two drug tests while at the University of Virginia.

As to Thurman, word is that he is making a conscientious effort to rectify the problem. We're told that he wants to comply with the rules and to play football. With that said, a four-game suspension is imposed only after a player has progressed through several levels of the substance abuse program, which means that the problem has been around for a while. Here's hoping that he can get on the right track, because he definitely has the talent to be a force in the NFL.

The four-game suspension takes effect after the final preseason game on September 1 at Indianapolis. He'll miss games on September 10 at Kansas City, September 17 at home against the Browns, September 24 at Pittsburgh, and October 1 at home against the Patriots.
