Young thinks he could still end up in Houston

HOUSTON (AP) - Vince Young isn't daunted by recent speculation that the Houston Texans will use the No. 1 pick in the draft on Reggie Bush.
The former Texas quarterback said Friday he still thinks his hometown team is open to drafting him.

"That's why I believe that I came here today," Young said. "You never know what is going on. A lot of people say Reggie is going to be here, but you never know."

Young worked out for Texans officials, toured the facilities and met with coaches and some players Friday. Bush met with the Texans on Thursday.

New coach Gary Kubiak and owner Bob McNair were among more than 100 NFL scouts, coaches and executives who also watched Young work out in Austin last month.

Young said Friday's workout consisted mostly of him throwing to a bevy of different receivers.

"Coach Kub (Kubiak) had some rapid fire, trying to keep me moving around, trying to see whether I'd get tired and things like that," he said. "I'm glad I've been continuing working out and staying in shape and throwing the ball."

Young also has visits to Miami, Minnesota, Cleveland and another visit to Tennessee, the owner of the third pick, in upcoming days.

Agent Major Adams said his client hasn't been worn down by all of his visits and recent travel.

"He knows the nature of the business, and he believes that teams want to know who he is," Adams said.

Young's draft stock skyrocketed after his performance in the Rose Bowl, where he accounted for 467 yards in a 41-38 win over USC and Bush for the national championship. Young announced four days later he was skipping his senior season to turn pro, and many Texans fans began clamoring for Houston to choose Young.

The Texans extended quarterback David Carr's contract for three years in February, making the possibility of Houston drafting Young look less likely.

Young would love to play for the Texans, but said that if they don't choose him it will simply motivate him to succeed wherever he goes.

"I will always love my hometown, and I will always have respect for my team," Young said. "But if it doesn't work out I'll still love my hometown, but when I come home, I'm going to play.
 
Part of it has be the Texans playing one against he other, VY and RB. It seems RB is the pick as of right now, but by bringing in VY it tells RB's people that if they get crazy in their contract request then maybe we would take VY. What Orlando Pace did to us, we are doing to the top draft pick.
 
If the Texans didn't have the first pick in the draft he wouldn't even be included in the battle to be the first pick (not that it's much of a battle even here anymore). It's either we pick him at 1 or he will fall down into the 6-10 range.
 
VY all the way reggiecan go back to cali and take that washed up carr with him. yall keep saying that VY is clueless but i think yall are the one's clueless, if you don't got nothing good to say don't say nothing at all you don't even know the man and what ....hollar

He's going #3...he's been destined for #3 since he declared.

We will face him twice a year. It will become a rivalry and a lot of "I told you so's"...it will be good for VY...it will be good for Bush...it will be good for both teams...it will be good for football. Heck, we might even get a Monday night game out of it in a couple of years...

QBs taken #1 overall want more money then any other position taken #1.

Did you play against Reggie too? Because if not, then you have no frame of reference of who is better.
 
What the Texans need is some of these guys who are overboard with VY to buy the Jets or the Titans . These guys would want Vince so bad we could get a great deal maybe two 1st and two 2nd round picks for the # 1 pick .

The sad thing about this is that most (not all...) VY fans want him drafted because he is from Houston and because of his Rose Bowl performance - not because we need a QB. I guarantee - if David Carr had been setting the league on fire with pro bowl performances the past 4 years, these folks would still want the Texans to draft VY.

No, do we need a running back? no. But, we will benefit sooner by having a more versitile player that can be a running back, receiver, returner, etc. in the form of Reggie Bush than we would from a 2 year bench warmer in the form of VY. :twocents:

Cleveland had back-to-back #1 overalls in 1999 (Tim Couch) and 2000 (Courtney Brown)
Tampa Bay had back-to-back #1 overalls in 1986 (Bo Jackson, who went to play baseball and was later redrafted by the Raiders) and 1987 (Vinny Testaverde)
The Colts took a QB #1 overall in 1990 (Jeff George) and 1998 (Peyton Manning) and are the most recent example of a team taking two #1 overall QBs relatively short time.

I personally think (and think most would agree) that as far as what area has the most room for improvement....QB overshadows RB. Period. Now maybe this was because Carr didn't have his line....but regardless....at least we'll find out next year. But until then it's like I've said before....DD is a top 10 RB in this league when healthy....Carr isn't and even with a line i'm not so sure he will be. But like I said, we are doing the smart thing with Bush and we are going to know for sure what type of QB Carr can be next year.

There are some who think Carr is terrible.

And there are those of us who hope he can be good with more tools and protection but just aren't sure. Aren't sure after 4 years.

If you have watched enough Texans games, (understatement alert) you worry some about the QB position. Even if you like Carr a lot as a person and a prospect. Even in the 2004 season when he was playing better, there still was a lot of ugly in that season, especially near the end.

With such hideous ugly QB play, and still being uncertain whether Carr can be the man, you can completely understand why people might be eager to draft a likeable QB who is begging to play for a 2-14 team, is a fan of that team, and who has had an amazing college career.

If Carr had been playing like The Man, most of these threads wouldn't be on the MB. I am not putting this all on him, but really, I have no idea at all whether Carr can succeed with an offensive minded coach, more weapons and protection. I would hope so, I am rooting for him, but I just don't know.

As someone who has heard all the Carr criticisms (some fair and some not), I can completely understand why people might be eager for a QB change. But I can also see the reasons why we are likely not going to do this.

I hope like heck that Carr is a solid QB next year because it is gonna get really ugly if we have AJ, Moulds, Bush, Putzier, DD, Flanagan, a new coach and Oline coach specifically hired to make the offense look better--and things still look embarrasing. It would be sad.

Good response, counterfactuals like that aren't worth much. Fact is, Carr still remains long on potential and short on results. It's Davis that's been very good and is looking at a diminished role if Bush is drafted. Chalk another one up for potential.

Great Post! I couldn't have said it better . It is going to get ugly fast if Carr does not step up. Sage will be our QB. : We will have the number one pick next year also ! I just want to win!:redtowel:

Yo my High school coach played against Moss, TO, and Ray Lewis, when my coach played at Georgia Southern, his name is Roderick Russel, he was taken as a unrestricted FA for the Panthers, then he got released.
